Why is AI Readiness important
๐ก Note: Originally published for Now Assist Center (NAC). As of Australia Patch 5, this product is now AI Admin Center (AIAC). Same product, new name.
You've got stakeholder buy-in. The roadmap is approved. Someone says, "let's just turn it on and see what happens." What could go wrong?
And that's where things can go quietly wonky. Not catastrophically, not immediately. But a few weeks post-launch, you're fielding tickets about irrelevant AI responses, digging into why Virtual Agent grounding data is stale, or discovering that a required plugin didn't make it into the deployment checklist. The AI still works, technically. But the answers aren't great, and users become skeptical. That puts you in reactive mode of work. With a need to rebuild end-user trust.
AI Readiness in the AI Admin Center makes this scenario preventable.
๐ก Version note: You need Australia Patch 3 or Zurich Patch 10 with Now Assist Center version 4.0.2 to access AI Readiness. You'll also need the sn_na_center.nac_admin role.
AI Readiness: An Actual Score, Not a Gut Check
AI Admin Center has a built-in AI Readiness assessment. It's not a separate tool you have to install or a consulting engagement you have to schedule. It's already there, right on the AI Admin Center home page, waiting for you to run it.
It scans your instance against a known set of readiness criteria: data configuration, plugin state, role requirements, integration dependencies. Everything you'd otherwise check manually or track in an Excel or Doc someone made. It returns an overall readiness status plus a prioritized list of what needs attention and a direct link to the exact config page where you fix each issue.
That last part is worth pausing on. It's not "your grounding data might need some work." It's a link that takes you directly to the page where you address it. One click from finding to record to fixing.
What It Covers
On the AI Admin Center home page, you'll see a readiness bar showing green, yellow, and red across your findings at a glance. A button from there takes you to the full assessment page, which breaks things down into five areas:
AI Search
Checks data configuration and integration dependencies that affect search quality and relevance.
Virtual Agent
Surfaces grounding data readiness, plugin state, and configuration gaps that can affect answer quality before users ever see a response.
ITSM
Covers role requirements, plugin dependencies, data quantity, and configuration prerequisites specific to ITSM AI capabilities.
CSM
Covers role requirements, plugin dependencies, data quantity, and configuration prerequisites specific to CSM AI readiness.
HRSD
Covers role requirements, plugin dependencies, data quantity, and configuration prerequisites specific to HR Service Delivery AI readiness.
Each area has its own section with a button to drill in further. Inside, you get a list of assessment questions, the findings for your instance, and direct remediation links for anything that's flagging. It's scoped well enough that you can focus on just the areas relevant to your current rollout without wading through findings for capabilities you haven't deployed yet.
How to Use It
Once you've confirmed your version and role, here's the flow:
- Navigate to Workspaces > AI Admin Center. The AI Readiness bar is on the home page.
- Start with the overall readiness bar for a quick status read, then drill into the full assessment page to see the breakdown by area.
- Open the sections relevant to your current rollout and work through the findings. Read top-down: overall status first, then by area, then into the task-level detail. Don't start at the question level, or you'll end up optimizing things that aren't your actual blockers.
- Use the direct remediation links to address each flagged item. Each one takes you straight to the config page where the fix happens.
๐ก Heads up on HRSD: Allow Restricted Caller Access after you run the assessment so you get a complete picture of that section. The full assessment page links you there if it's not already set up.
Re-Run It After You Fix Things
This is the part that's easy to skip but really worth doing. After your team works through the high-priority items, run the assessment again. It generates a fresh baseline every time, so you'll see whether the fixes actually resolved what was flagging.
This is also how you show progress to stakeholders. Not "we made some fixes" but "here's the readiness score before and after." That's a different conversation.
Wrapping Up ๐
Before this, "are we ready?" was a fuzzy question. The answer depended on who you asked and how much time they'd had to dig in. Now it's a score with a prioritized action list attached.
That changes planning conversations. Instead of "we think we're probably good," you can say "we have two medium-priority items and one high-priority fix before we proceed." That's the difference between guessing and knowing, and for anyone who's had to explain a rough AI launch to leadership after the fact, knowing is a much better place to be.
Give it a run on your next initiative. You might be surprised what it finds.
