Platform Analytics dashboard filter on Task Type or CMDB Class

New article articles in ServiceNow Community · Jul 28, 2026 · article

It was a simple ask. A customer emailed a question. "I am working on a dashboard, and I need to be able to add a filter on the ticket type. It's not working, can you help?"

This customer is working with an instance that is fully migrated to the Platform Analytics Experience (PAE), which I think every customer should do as soon as possible, but that's just my opinion.

I opened the instance, checked the dashboard, opened the filter and stopped. I can select any choice, reference or string field in there, but there is no 'Task Type', 'Class' or 'sys_class_name' to select.

I created a new filter. Maybe this one is corrupt? Same result.

Some old-fashioned Google searches showed a lot of people asking the same without any solution. Docs told me what I already knew: you can only select reference, choice and string fields.

I realized I recently upgraded another client to Australia and did the full migration there. I knew I once created the filter for them. Sometimes it's great that your mind is so weird that it can recall things that make no sense to remember.

I opened that instance, checked the interactive filter I created, and it showed the banner 'this has been migrated'. I clicked the link and it took me to PAE and I saw the filter source: “Task . Task Type”. It's there. I opened the dashboard it is used on, applied some values and it filtered the reports.

So, we can't create it as new, but if you created it in the past, it will still work. That makes as much sense as my brain.

I can't find anything about ServiceNow updating this soon, although I really hope they will. Until then, check out the link below. I have shared an update set on ServiceNow's Share, so you can download it and add it to your own instance. And since I've been taught that 'one = none', I added a second filter that allows you to filter the CMDB_CI table on CI Class (yep, you can't create that either).
