AI Gateway as part of AI Control Tower is back on September 10th. This post is a heads-up on what's coming and why it matters. A full GA article with documentation links and getting-started guidance will follow at release. 

 

What is AI Gateway  

AI Gateway is the runtime enforcement layer inside AI Control Tower. It sits between your AI agents and the MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers they connect to: governing every connection, enforcing access policies at the moment a tool is called, and giving your AI Stewards full visibility into what's running. 

 

It is purpose-built for the governance gap that emerges when AI agents scale: more agents, more tool connections, and no centralized control over who approved what or what's actively running. 

 

What's arriving on September 10** th ***, 2026*  

The re-launch is organized around three pillars:

 

Govern gives AI Stewards a unified catalog of every MCP server and tool in the environment — whether it came from AI Agent Studio, MCP Server Console, or the MCP catalog. Nothing reaches an agent without going through a governed intake and approval workflow first.

 

Control enforces access policies in real time across every agent-tool interaction. ServiceNow identity authentication verifies agent identity and issues scoped tokens. Sensitive data detection blocks responses containing sensitive data before they reach the agent. Any server or tool can be paused instantly: globally or individually, with no code changes required. Tool metadata is also scanned at registration, and suspicious tools are blocked before any agent can invoke them. 

 

Observe records latency, success rates, and connection attempts per server, tool, and client — with no agent-side instrumentation required. AI Stewards get operational visibility into what's running before issues reach users. 

 

What makes this different  

Most AI governance approaches stop at configuration. AI Gateway enforces at runtime — and because it's natively integrated with AI Control Tower, every governance decision made in AI Control Tower applies automatically at the gateway. No integration gap, no separate policy sync. 

 

How to get it  

AI Gateway is delivered as part of AI Control Tower Core, available through the ServiceNow Store. If you already have AI Control Tower installed, upgrading to the latest version of AI Control Tower Core in September gets you AI Gateway automatically — no separate install required.
