The 3 cloud cost management insights you’ll want to share with your FinOps team
welcome everyone to this uh Community Cloud cost management webinar and we're going to talk about the top insights for Finn Ops teams and as part of our overall Asset Management um Bobby uh by the way my name is Adam Smith Cairns I'm a senior product and solution marketing manager here at servicenow you can as we get started obviously there are some things that we might talk about that are forthcoming and and so we want to make sure that you have this in mind that there's a safe harbor notice and that don't make any decisions for buying decisions based on what we're talking about today there are some meetups that we're going to have some future webinars and other things and if you want to zap that QR code then you'll get some of that information and and please join us for other meetups and it should be a good time talking about Fin Ops and other things related to the cloud cost management and other other aspects of asset management and just as a few housekeeping tips here uh We've saved time at the end for the Q a and if you do have questions during the session please put it in the the Q a instead of the chat uh we'll monitor both but we prefer the Q a because then it can go out as part of the transcript to you when we send it out the presentation is being recorded and after the events we will have a short survey so we hope you'll participate in that so we know what we can do better and and what we did well celebrate that as well and finally as we get into this uh let's talk about the agenda we'll have introductions which we've kind of had already we'll we'll talk a little bit about the cloud uncertainty and what's going on in the market as well as uh Cloud cost management overview so uh this this product has had a name change and it's being there's a lot of announcements around it and so we'll go over some of those things then we'll have a product demonstration of some of the the new features and capabilities and we'll look at it as it sits on the servicenow platform and then we'll wrap up with some uh q a and some conclusions at that point and with that I'll turn it over to Abby Roy who will take us through um the next section of the the webinar thank you Adam for that intro and hello everyone nice to meet you my name is Abby Roy and I am the senior outbound product manager for our cost management product and with that I will kick off some three big key announcements the first big announcement is that we are changing the name of our fin Ops tool previously it was called Cloud insights now it is called Cloud cost management we made this change because we felt that it was far more descriptive of what our product actually does it not only provides insights but also a lot of actionable insights and a lot of opportunities for recommendations and optimizing Cloud spend we wanted to just accurately reflect what the product has to offer in totality and it's also a more familiar name within the fin op space we wanted to keep it more in line with our other Asset Management offerings like software asset management and Hardware asset management and Enterprise Asset Management the second key announcement is that we are having new licensing for our product so previously Cloud insights you you could only get it through Sam Enterprise and now for cloud cost management you can get it also as part of software Asset Management Enterprise Sam Enterprise but you can also get it as a standalone SKU called the cloud cost management professional and the third key announcement is that we have a bunch of notable capabilities we have completely overhauled the UI and interface of our fin Ops tool Cloud cost management which will be demon to you and we're very excited to do that demo we've added uh like a brand new workspace and we've added optimizations for storage and database as well as a new alert Center and all these are just uh part of a long Perdition of continuously innovating and growing this product and I've put that I wanted to set a little bit of context around Cloud spend and say that a lot of times when we talk about Cloud we talk about the growth of cloud spend but what we're seeing and this is something that really was something that we were thinking about when we were designing this is not looking just at the trajectory of total growth but also looking at the uncertainty and waste around Cloud spend particularly with companies shifting more towards a variable cost model it can cause a lot of unpredictability and all the challenges that come with that uncertainty unpredictability we can see here that for some real world examples Pinterest had to pay 20 million dollars more than they expected during the holiday season because of unpredictability around AWS services and then here we can see that this startup almost went bankrupt because of uncontrollable and uncertainty and unpredictability around their Cloud spend and why is cloud spend wasted there are a variety of reasons the first two uh options listed here account for a huge chunk of it oversized assets uh we can see here that you know on average 40 of workloads are oversized but unused assets are a huge portion of those two thirty percent of cloud subscriptions are either underutilized or unused and with all of these things manual Corrections are slow or they stall a lot of these corrective actions and then along with that there's often the lack of cost visibility and accountability and also not using the full breadth of the committed discounts like the reserve compute and savings plans they're often used improperly and so given the backdrop of all this uncertainty all this unpredictability around the cloud spend what are ways that we can go about controlling it and and mitigating waste so the first is creating a sense of accountability and and the key part of this is just tying the cloud spend with business value showing who is spending and how much this is it ties back into show back and chargeback and also predicting and planning better for the future the second way is optimizing assets and so this includes resizing or remove based on usage and then migrating to newer resource types and then the third is just automating and collaborating and so this includes like automating as many optimization actions as possible just to just to remove the negative effects of doing everything manually making it easy to collaborate and keep on audit and also share as much information as possible with various stakeholders and teams to make these recommendation actions easy and that is exactly what our Cloud cost management tool does it's a very powerful way to both visualize as well as optimize Cloud spend and then as mentioned in terms of Licensing this is available both as part of software Asset Management Enterprise but also as Cloud cost management Standalone SKU and some of the major use cases including identify where you can identify an automated assignment or Cloud Resources with policies and account ownership there's a robust reporting where you can you take the building and report it and break down Cloud spend across you'll see MDB as well as other Cloud attributes they have a powerful optimization engine and you can optimize Cloud spend with system driven recommendations and you can automate these optimization tasks using itu workflows and service now change control and very powerfully you can track recommendations and approvals with the Change Control now I talked about that but what I'm really excited to do is actually show you the product do a full end-to-end demo first we will start with the user experience taking into account the pains and journey of uh using this product and how how that solves the pain points of a fin Ops Persona then we'll be going into the added optimizations in our product and then we will end with taking a look at the guided setup portion and how easy it is to get that time to value in our Cloud cost management tool and with that I will share my screen apologies it was glitching up for a second I think it's working now perfect so here is the landing page for our Cloud cost management tool and when we were designing this we really wanted to take into account that finops Persona and here we have Ravi Devon who will be our fin ops manager and we wanted to structure it in a way that would mirror his journey and his concerns and the information that he wanted to see and make it very easy for him to get those insights and act on that insights so Ravi being part of the fin Ops Team he really cares about knowing what is your you know total spend this month and then we have that listed here in the overview section but he also wants to have contextualized data and knowledge around that so he wants to not only look at what is the current spend on this particular month but what would be the forecast to spend at the end of the month based on how the spending has been trending and then how does that spend compared to the previous month and where where is that trending and we have all that contextualized info here in this first overview widget where you have total spend forecasted at the end of this month and also how it compares to the previous month is it trending less as is it trending more and then we can if it's trending less we have this green sign over here which is typically a good sign but while we have this large you know like like over macro level overview of the spending we can even drill down further with the widgets and visualizations uh further down in the page and so we have this visualization here where we can take a look at spending Trends and we can set a time range for that so say Ravi wants to look okay what have been my spending trends for the past six months he can go ahead and do it this way and then our product is very powerfully multi-cloud and so we Ravi his case firm has AWS Azure as well as Google and you can see the spending per provider per reach month for the past six months now say that revi not only wants to look at spending in totality not only at what the providers are spending but also the specific products that is purchased from these providers then you can go to group buy and then you can Group by service category here and then now you can see oh okay it's um not just showing gcp Azure or AWS but now I can look at specifically uh you know products like an assets like database I can look at compute I can look at storage and then there's all other different types of assets here and what is very powerful about our Cloud cost management tool is our normalization engine because Amazon and Google and Microsoft Azure they have different names they have different categorizations for their compute assets for their database assets for their storage and then this normalizes all that across different providers so you can still look at it as one you know General database or storage or a compute category and you can you can and right we can slice and dice more deeply on how these services are driving that slow spending and again you can adjust the months to different time range and then you could even show what the forecast would be for that particular month so not just merely on a one month period but on a longer period now I was mentioning earlier that that key way to be able to control spend particularly the predictability in the waste is being able to have accountability around that and showing individual teams for example how much they are spending and the way you can do that is clicking on one of these bar charts so say that we wanted to go and do it by provider and say that okay in June 2023 we Robbie can see that there was a lot of spending here so he goes and he clicks on this individual bar chart and this is the area of spend analytics page where we can really dive into showback as well as charge your back and so on this group by section right here we can um group go ahead and group by and use our powerful tagging capabilities so you can go and we can tag it by a business unit and then once we do that we can see that it populates by you know various different business units including like the for example ISM business unit here including the itsm business unit the CMD business unit we can see what their particular spending is for that price for August 2023 and then from this you can generate reports a share back to those individual teams but you could even slice it more granularly on this right hand side where we can you know select by region and we can specific do specific geographies here and then you can also uh do it by purchase option by cloud service and then you can apply even more tag categories too so you can take a look at the data in multiple ways and just really get a control and accountability around that spend the second issue that Robbie really cares about is the budget and he wants to know what the total budget is but also how the spending is compared against that allocated budget so we show that at a high level at this widget on the main landing page so but we have a way to dive into that more deeply where we can click on this budget module on the left hand side it says um graph uh icon so you go ahead and click onto that and then this will bring us to a page that gives an overview of all the filed budgets in the company and then it has a similar layout at the top where we have total budget you have a total spend we have the comparison of the spending compared to the budget and we also have the forecasted spend and the comparison of the forecast has been compared to the budget and then we have this visualization down here these bar charts that compare the spend with the budget amount what Ravi wants to know is he wants to know the budget versus the current spend but then also his Finance teams his managers they also wanted to see how it Compares against the forecast and spend two so he can toggle that very easily and click onto this and then from this he'll be able to analyze the the budget the allocated budget around the forecasted spend as well and so we can build out those reports whichever one this particular organization is prioritizing and then it's very easy to search for budgets by looking at budget owner or as well as budget name and say Robbie wants to look more at individual budgets you can then click onto this tab right next to overview and you can go into all budgets and then here we have a view into each individual budget Cloud budget in the company and then say that a Ravi well he can again search by budget name owner provider but he only wants to look at overrun budgets that's what he wants to go ahead and prioritize and Tackle you can click this toggle right over here and this will show the overrun budgets only and then from this you can go and double click in them and see okay what is going on where the drivers of um you know spending around here why is this overrun what corrective action is going to go ahead and take so um on the topic of just understanding more around uh you know spending and looking at you know information to give across and back to individual teams we have our spend dashboard here which you can click onto here and then on this page this is just another further way that Rob you can use to give information back to you know individual application teams and just provide that on a very regular basis just to update them and have them you know aware of what their spending is and what where it's trending and so we have this uh a page at the beginning at this uh this chart at the beginning called daily spend by service category and the intention with this is to as for Ravi and whoever his phenopsy members to be able to identify anomalies to see are there any unexpected spikes somebody can say that there are two spikes around here that are very high and then being able to uh you know notice that's when it's occurred and then being able to investigate further what was you know driving those spikes were there any unexpected events were there any things that we should particularly account for and so this is a very useful in in that aspect of this again it attracts it by daily spend by the various service categories like compute and database and networking storage and then we can also you know slice and dice the spending more specifically per cost center per business application her purchase option as well as spend a per region and this is a page where um servicenow has told Ravi that they'll be continuously adding more graphs and visualizations these are the um graphs that that have been you know provided based on you know customer feedback these are the most uh requested and in demand visualizations but we're always at it and so probably continuously gives feedback on on how he's using the this page and it's also like a canvas where more visualizations will be added in the future but say that now Ravi has like a good grasp of the spending situation as well as the budget situation he he knows that there's a level of of you know of spending like overrun budgets and it's you know going over the allocated budget now he wants to go and start his savings Journey so he can see at the top here we have total potential savings um we have this number here of 120 000 and so that just points out you know very much that there's a lot of wasteful spending there's a lot of ways to save it and and then then Robbie now wants to dig deeper into exactly what does that mean where are these opportunities for savings so on the landing page itself we have this uh section called recommendations and this is essentially a preview section where it auto populates the top three recommendations for savings and so we can see that there are as an auto populated section um right-sizing storage of assets but there's also a recommendation around unused database resources as well as another one on right says and compute and here he can go and he can say that he wants to look specifically at right sizing or unused or business hour optimizations you can go and click onto that and this will optimize specifically for those business hours and say that he also wants to take a look at alerts and this section basically shows operational incidents including things like failed price sheet download jobs like and then we have that here with AWS and then also some jobs that are failed and tightened out in the last week and then some field recommendations this is how you can very easily go and to see that and be able to account for that and then after that um he can go and he can see more context around actual versus potential savings on the landing page itself if he goes down here he can see um actual his potential savings by Provider by service category um as well as environment so you can see here the the potential savings is higher on the production side versus the not what versus um so with non-production and so we can go and prioritize savings around production you can see here that storage is a huge driver potential savings so we can go and prioritize that and then you can see here that Azure and gcp they have a little bit more savings opportunities and so we can go and you can go and do a look and um prioritize that but if you really once he really wants to go and get into his uh savings Journey he can go into our recommendations page our operations page and there's two ways that he can get to that he can click on view all over here or he can click on the operations module which is right this button on the right hand side this list button so let's say that he sees these previews of recommendations he wants to look at it um more in depth he can click onto view all and then this will take him to the recommendations or review landing page and on this page this provides more context around those potential savings remember that 120 000 amount on the on the main page so here it shows where those potential savings are coming from we can see that a huge portion of that is coming from unused resources that accounts for a majority of it 53 but a large portion of those savings are coming from right sizing opportunities so that's 32 percent of it we can see that business hour accounts for 14 of it and we can see that reservation plans only account for one percent of it so this makes it easier for Robbie to understand okay if you want to go and pursue those potential savings we want to optimize our Cloud resources it really makes sense to prioritize unused resources as well as right sizing for my particular company and then business hours can be third but these reservation plans they're not particularly a priority because they're only one percent of the potential savings and then say that Robbie has already gone and he's done some savings before and he's already been on his savings Journey they can track the progress of his particular scheduled jobs and in particular actions and tests on this chart right next to it so this will showcase for example if he's had any failed jobs if he's had any pending jobs if he's had any rejected jobs this is very important for him because say that he already put in a request to right side as a resource or or do an unused of you know resource allocation then he can see okay was this request you know rejected for any way is it pending did it fail if it was rejected then why can I see look at the you know tracking of that request who was the person who rejected it why was it rejected who I need to follow up to and so this this provides a way to track those recommendations to review in a very easy way to see for refi but let's say that now he wants to look specifically at you know one of these recommendation types to see that right sizing is up 32 of it he can easily navigate to that by going to this uh list here on the left hand side and you can go ahead and click onto right sizing itself and then on this right sizing page we have similar visualizations where it shows how much of the potential savings are in each service category and so here we're listing service categories of database of storage and compute and against these categories are normalized it'll it's multi-cloud so it has support for AWS azure gcp we can see that for here compute is 42 percent it's already 30 a database is 29 so we compute is the largest uh area for right for savings and we can also see that there are total potential savings by change group like change management app Def and Incident Management so let's say we want to look more specifically at compute we can go and we can click that here and then we're here it has this list view of a configuration item savings provider service category cloud service current size recommendation size you can filter it even more further um by this with this filter icon over here you can put more categories like business unit or a particular like application teams if you want to look more specifically at that you can also schedule these optimization jobs from this page but also from here as well so say that you want to you see this and you want to go and you know right size some compute resources you can go here you can see some new recommendations and then you can go and click on these configuration items and then you can click on schedule to schedule that job here you can schedule that job you can add to a job just add the name you put in the date and time and then you can do the he probably can do the approval type in either manual or Auto approval and what Ravi has seen is that initially a lot of customers um initially a lot of his particular teams that he's been working with they started out as a manual approved but then as they got eventual more buy-in into the system then it shifted more into Auto approval where he would just put in the recommendation and the optimization here in the cloud cost management and then it would automate the workflow to right size that particular resource and then here again this is a way that Robbie can track um you know his particular recommendations and jobs that we can look into schedule um jobs you can look in completed ones declined ones failed and excluded so it can very easily just track the progress of once he's gone on his journey and see where that's at and then if Ravi wants to go and take a look on using resources because again this was a majority of the potential savings he can click very easily on this tab here very similar UI where there's total potential savings by service category storage database and compute um similar graph here and similar way to schedule jobs and be able to track them right here and then through this um Robbie goes ahead through his right sizing and optimization Journey where he looks at right sizing looks at unused resources and then after that he goes into business hours and then again very similar UI around that and the one other thing that I wanted to show is say that um Ravi wants to leverage the ability of tagging the system to make it easier just to track spending their particular team or be able to once he's looking at you know compute and database in terms of business hours or right sizing if he wants to specifically apply those tags to go in and optimize you know resources per particular you know cost center or business unit he can vary powerfully go that by uh going into the cost usage tags and going into this tag category section and so our file cost management tool it is powerful in that it comes with and auto populates a lot of very common tags that customers can go and use into slicing and dicing data for like showback and chargeback and then Robbie you can see that you know a lot of these tags are already into the system but say that he wants to he has some custom tags or he has other ways of labeling things and he wants those tags to map into well what have been generating the system he can go and he can go into tag category called business unit and he can put in various different you know tag names here like bu or um you know whatever names that he's doing so that when when those that data comes in and it comes into the system then those will automatically and powerfully be associated with this business you need to tag and so you can look at all that in a holistic View so again with all of this Robbie has just a very powerful grasp over his spending he's able to look at what those drivers of those spending are he is able to then you know take a look at the budget and take a look at how the spending is comparing against the allocated budget both on a current spend method as well as the forecasted spend way and then after that he's able to look and pursue his potential savings Journey where he can take a look at these recommendations and then look more specifically at where those potential recommendations are coming from what optimization type they are like recommend date like right sizing resources or unused resources or or business hours they can go and you can optimize Cloud assets that way the final thing that I wanted to Showcase in this demo is the guided setup portion which can be accessed by clicking on this admin icon over here and then here this is from more from the perspective of an admin who is setting up the product and it is designed in a way to make it very easy to activate everything to put in the information in a fat cost management to be able to get the time to Value very quickly you know so that this is a seamless process to set up and you can start using the tool very uh quickly from after purchasing it and here it showcases at the very top the three major steps to set up we have this first step just activating the plugins the second step is configurating into Integrations and again our product is multi-cloud so it ties in with AWS with Azure as well as gcp and the third step here is preference settings so remember those optimizations that I was talking about like right sizing and business hours when you set up the product itself you can go ahead and you can set some settings around that or you can go back and then once you've already set it as up it's we can easily go and customize those settings even further on this right hand side we have this product tour section and this links to knowledge articles to videos just to make it easier for the defend Ops Team somebody like Ravi or uh somebody who's like a software asset management or an I.T manager to be able to learn more about the product and teach themselves about that product so that they can get value out of it quickly and they can live it easy One-Stop shop to come back to to refer to and we also have a section down here called related products and features to suggest and this just showcases how this Cloud class management tool can be used as part of the servicenow platform with other products including like our software Asset Management product and our Hardware Asset Management product for Asset Management executive dashboard and for those personas that are outside of nearly just spinops there may be Cloud Center of Excellence maybe a software asset manager or its asset manager these links really show the versatility of our tool in terms of the personas that can use it as well as the use cases now let's um just uh look more specifically into these major steps to set up so if you want to look at the plugins that we need to activate we just click this drop down menu over here and then it will showcase the plugins that need to be updated like this Cloud cost management plugin as well as the ones that need to be installed like the service wrap connector for AWS but then it also shows the ones that have been installed like the metric base plugin as well as Cloud Discovery plugin so we know that this admin knows that he's good to go on these items now let's take a look at creating integration so say that we want um to integrate with the major Cloud providers we can see that gcp has already been integrated but there still has to be Integrations left with AWS as well as azure so say that this admin wants to go and integrate with Azure you can go and click on integrate over here and this will bring him to a page where it'll make it very easy to just keep track of all the steps what is integration we can see on this first category called prerequisites for all these tests here there are check marks and X2 which tests have been completed as well as which ones still have to be done and then you can click onto these even further and it will just show you you know step by step what to do it'll link you to knowledge articles if need be and then you can look at the three major steps like Cloud portal setup and then as well as server is now interesting setup and this includes things like um you know billing download jobs like service accounts price sheets just in a very easy way and easy to follow um place and then once it doesn't get any shows that checkbox next to it and then finally we have this portion down here called preference setting which this is where you can go and you can set up uh preferences and customizations around our optimization use spaces like right sizing and business hours and Reserve plans and probably be that admin Personnel won't be you know doing too much on this in the initial setup but it's a place that if they wanted to they could and it's very easy to come back to and then adjust you know settings brand names like say if you want to do like custom thresholds around um you know right sizing database resources you can you can do that um through this process so yeah with that that is an overview of our Cloud cost management tool um from the perspective of finops practitioner like uh Ravi as we were mentioning and also an overview of setting up the tool very effectively from the perspective of an admin and with that I will now hand it over to my inbound product manager counterpart Rohan tiagi to go over the platform story thank you Abby um thanks everyone for attending this session so what you saw are we presenting was the problem space uh what um is the the uncertainty in the cloud is what we are targeting with this solution in service now I wanted to um put some more focus on the unique advantage that you will realize with utilizing service now um product In This Cloud cost management space and that is the that is also one of the biggest pain points uh when it comes to finops operationalizing finops or finops life cycle uh this data is coming from finops.org they have done a survey and found out that getting ingenious to take action is actually one of the biggest pain points so getting cost visibility getting to know how much the spending in the cloud is fine getting recommendations to start saving that spend is also okay but when those recommendations just keep sitting and nobody's taking action on that or getting someone or encouraging someone to take action on those recommendations to convert the potential savings into actual hard dollar savings becomes really challenging and that's exactly what service noise positioned to do because we are a work we are a platform of workflows so um if you go to the next slide um so what you will notice and RB also showed you is our very tight Integrations with devops change management what devops change management brings to your organization is two key aspects one that we are enabling you to integrate with your existing devops pipelines CI CD pipelines we do have the Automation in built in the product you can use our automated actions to go to the cloud vendor and perform the right sizing operation or removing machines that are not being used those are API driven however if you have your existing processes that are living in Azure devops or AWS devops or any of the other tools that you have in this in in the environment you can integrate with them using a change management integration seamlessly and when I say seamlessly it is truly seamless it is not a third party type of integration that you need to build out um the the core integration with devops change within servicenow platform is inbuilt and if you want to extend it to any of these third-party tools those spokes are also available so it's it's low code way of integrating into your existing devops life cycles and why it is so important is because those Engineers who are working on the rollout of new features and functionality in your products their kpis are to make better code to release more features more frequently their motivation is not cost savings as much the motivation for cost savings is at the fin Ops Persona of finops practitioner level so as easy as you can make it for that application developer to review your recommendations as much information as you can share with them faster will be those realization of savings so just keep in mind that you need to ease out you need to remove all the friction you need to talk to them wherever they are living day in day out so that's one piece of um benefit that you will get with devops integration the other piece of benefit you will get is measuring the performance be able to Benchmark that at this point when you started this journey you were at this level XYZ level that maybe one recommendation getting approved saving hundred dollars per month uh was also a big task but as you are maturing in your phenolph's life cycle you're improving on those processes and now you are able to automate the savings um and you're able to save ten thousand dollars per month or hundred thousand dollars per month and which are those teams that are collaborating and that are working with you more uh effectively which are the teams that are not able to collaborate with you is all measurable you know what are the friction points why certain teams are not able to help you uh or not able to collaborate with you and why uh what are the problems that it is a people problem process problem or tool problem so all of that can be measured and Baseline so that is why this removing the friction and collaborating with your engineering teams is becoming much more efficient with service knowledge platform service knows Cloud cost management um but I also want to uh you can build out the slide I also want want to bring your attention to One Core piece um that or core strength that service now platform brings in addition to devops is this fourth dimension that you see in the light blue light green color inform optimize operate is a typical finops life cycle um we do that um other products in the industry also do that uh they do cost reporting they help you do budgeting um and in fact if you have just one single Cloud plat Cloud vendor in your company you might find like these if inform optimize operators are pretty basic um things that any product does however when you are working on a servicenow platform using Cloud cost management you get this fourth dimension and this Dimension is really important as you expand as you start tackling the phenops um problems you will eventually start looking at various ways to expand that scope and be more informed be more um strategic in your approach when it comes to finops and some of the customers that are more mature in their finops Journeys they at an average use four different tools to manage the whole phenops um life cycle so what I'm trying to say is that maybe at this point when you are not so mature in your phenops life cycle it might not be that relevant but as you start growing as you start maturing enough Journey you will feel the need to better integrate with the rest of the I.T landscape for example devops examples I just gave you the other example is are better together with I.T Asset Management if you were to answer certain questions that your executives are asking how much are we spending in the overall cloud how will you answer that you can only answer that if you have the information about your SAS subscription spent and you have answers about your infrastructure and platform as a service spend which is coming from cloud cost management so you need to merge the data that is coming from software like software licenses like subscription licenses and also infrastructure licenses right um if you um if we have certain features in the product that I can show you um in a short while that makes it much more important to be working better together with your it Asset Management teams I'll take another example for let's say you are suggested to right size a machine and you are asked to move from a specific machine type to a different machine type but that machine type might have security vulnerabilities that that might bring risk to your environment so if you are exposed with that or if you are given that information up front you might not take the action of right sizing the machine and rightly so so but that visibility can only be provided if that we have that kind of data um uh merged with the cloud cost management or finops data right so the servicenow platform brings that type of visibility where you are able to utilize your finops data along with different other types of data that is coming in the it landscape for you so future forward we are trying to eliminate the need of four different tools where just one platform that you need you can utilize um so I also wanted to uh um focus on um one more um specific use case or or specific um function in the it uh that uh will resonate better with you and you will understand the need of a platform right so we as a business have this view that for our customers we want to be one single platform for all assets that exist in the world whether it is a cloud asset a software asset a hardware asset or even an Enterprise asset and that you will see in our product features moving forward um so on the on the next few slides I'll talk to you some examples where um where you will see that there is a need to unify software asset management or it asset management in general with finops data and one example is asset executive dashboard on the um so asset executive dashboard is is that place where customers can see their spend as it relates to software hardware and Cloud all together in one place so when your executives are having conversations for example how much I'm spending in Microsoft they don't care about how much we're spending in SQL server or how much we're spending in Vizio or how much we're spending in different virtual machines in Azure environments they want a Consolidated view right and that is only possible if you have the software license data if you have on-prem data and you have cloud data all together and this is this is the real strength of merging phenops data with item existing item data so what you're able to see is total spend um across all these three Landscapes actual savings that you have been performing whether it is by recycling your Hardware assets or whether it is by reutilizing your Surplus software licenses in the cloud and other different use cases that we have in terms of well the overall it landscape uh another example of that is um bring your own licenses this is one of the optimization use cases that can only be uncovered if the system has information about your on-prem licenses this is the example where you have a surplus on-prem licenses and they also have the flexibility to be utilized on the cloud resources as well so we uncovered those opportunities for you we check the licensing rules and we check how you have licensed your Cloud resources and we'll let you know that you can remove the on-demand license from your Cloud resources and utilize your on-prem licenses or existing Investments on the cloud resources so that you don't have to double license yourself your environment and that's again only possible because we are not isolated focus on cloud data but we also have we also have the insights into your on-prem licenses on-prem data um I don't want to bore you with this with this topic of better together with it asset management but I just have one more example to put the point across that these are I can keep on talking about these use cases all day long but these are some compelling use cases that makes the case that um strategically you should think more more about expanding the product use more expanding the the merging or collaborating with different teams within the it landscape so this example is cloud cost simulator you may have a situation where your on-prem licenses or on-prem infrastructure like Hardware or software is going end of life at this point you can make a decision whether you want to renew your on-prem licenses or you want to renew your Hardware devices or you can move to the cloud and people say that moving to Cloud will bring you cost savings so you can compare using simulator whether renewing the license for on-prem will be much more efficient for you or moving to one of these Cloud vendors will be efficient for you and within those Cloud vendors which one will will be the most effective is it AWS Azure or gcp and we're not just comparing with the list price we're compared we are also adding other aspects like do you have bring your own licenses um so that will make probably Azure more relevant or more cheaper than AWS or maybe you have reserved instances in AWS that will make AWS more cheaper as compared to Azure even though the list prices are list price of AWS would be more expensive so this is only again possible when we have those type of information all merged together um so we can skip through this use case I already spoke to you about the vulnerability management Integrations as well so what I want you to take away from this session is three things one we showcase the cloud cost management workspace and other added advantages that or features that we have added to the product now this product is not only making you or enabling you with all the core capabilities that you would expect from a finops tool but we also have focused on the user experience in a way that you don't feel uh you don't you just don't feel enabled to do all these functions but you also are more productive in your day-to-day life so you will experience the whole the whole enhanced user interfaces making your teams uh love this product they this they stay on this product they work more more on this product and be more productive in the space we added capabilities like storage optimization data optimization we already did compute optimization so that from that perspective as well we are helping you cover about 70 to 80 of your Cloud infrastructure in terms of cost savings we showed you how easy it is to set up the application using guided setup so overall Cloud cost management workspace and the other capability that we we showed you is the takeaway that you should take from here second thing we um we discussed briefly was the licensing I can reiterate that like the product is licensed two ways now um You can utilize a standalone SKU for cloud cost management if you do not have any software any on-prem infrastructure you only have Cloud infrastructure then you can utilize the Standalone SKU for cloud cost management otherwise you can also get the software Asset Management Enterprise that will give you access to both software on-prem subscriptions and Cloud cost management data and third thing was those use cases that I showed you of the strength of a single platform why a single architecture single code base is really important to make things work better together in your organization and bring an added value to your company and with
