Import · Jul 19, 2023 · video

hi I'm Alice hi I'm Justin and you're listening to the utterly awesome podcast who knows what we'll talk about I had to edit out a lot I know it was the new comments yeah sometimes I don't know like for me when I go to edit one of these I start to remember the conversation as I'm editing and I'm like well I don't know what she remembers this conversation until she hears it too so yeah as soon as I start listening I'm like oh yeah we didn't talk about that so Jake texted me after the last one I've tried to add him on LinkedIn I think he ignored me or he doesn't go on LinkedIn he doesn't go on LinkedIn very often okay and then but he did leave us a comment and said about how good bologna is for your skin and I have replied back a little if it can make me look younger I'm all for it oh I got my hair done tomorrow yeah you got you're rocking a little tan though yeah yeah I mean I've got some sun this weekend and we have a really fancy blow up pool which I've already told you about and the ones at WalMart delivery next day delivery my Walmart delivery you know express delivery but yes but Dexter I mean he's four so he loves yeah so I sat out there this weekend we did like nothing other than like hang outside and it's fantastic and my plant is producing cucumbers I like gherkins I didn't get to take a picture for you last night because I I'm trying to finish my project before I take any pictures soon I did almost do this outside so I can just show the garden but I was like no because our the where I would sit is wet from rain so okay I'm cool well guess what today is huh what my onions are starting but I don't know if they like grow underground and you pull them out I don't know yeah I don't know where I'm supposed to pull them you can like move a little soil away and check on them and then put it back so I've seen Dylan and I bought sweet potatoes I showed you on that in this past episode I think and um I have no idea how to know when they're ready so yeah it's gonna be an experiment I'm still waiting on my peppers I just transplanted a bunch of seedlings pepper seedlings yet we're taking the Box tree I like to let him go I'm personally with like well it's blocking the sun of like other yeah so like it's happened Dana calls it Audrey too from Little Shop of Horrors yeah quite a reference yes we love Little Shop of Horrors we I think they did like a play in high school and that's how I was exposed to it so my brother was in Little Shop of Horrors in high school because he did theater yeah my friend or an associate I guess was in it but I knew that's why we watched it like first year we were dating and it was funny because if you were watching it and I don't know if it was on like Apple TV or like Amazon but like the ending was different and we were both like is we were both really confused because the ending was wrong but I don't know if they still do that here but it used to be at Halloween they played that at the drive not the drive-in we went on the drive-in at the local theater it's not like a chain theater it's like a little pizza place I think they still do that on Halloween I'm not sure are you in Tulsa before I moved they did that um for Rocky Horror because I love oh that's what I'm thinking of yeah people like getting dressed up in costume yeah I love her wrong wrong wrong movie that's a good one Rocky Horror Picture Show yeah but I don't think I've ever seen the whole thing really yeah I've only seen Parts a friend of mine we used to watch it every Halloween and if you remember like a cup before covid was it ABC that was doing like live action remakes of popular shows like Hairspray all that yes I watched that one for Rocky Horror and I mean you've seen parts of Rocky Horror right yes okay so Susan Sarandon God bless her is not a great singer and whoever they cast in the live action was like a phenomenal singer and we were like this is ruining the movie she sings Too I love Susan's random though I do too yes I fell in love with her I think it was was it stepmom well yeah that is a good movie Julia Roberts Susan's random what's a good baby it's a sad movie how do we always end up on TV and movies we watch a lot of TV s we both do yeah I'm actually finishing up a really cool series I know I finished it last night called light and Magic and it's about industrial Light and Magic which is a company that did the George Lucas Forum to film to do all the digital stuff and so it's on Disney plus six episodes and it was fascinating it was fascinating up until like episode six where there's this really touching interview where they're talking to the shop people the people that did the they created you know stop-motion animation because their jobs are being replaced yeah and and they start talking about the same things like that everybody else is talking about right now with AI and writing and Artistry and you can see like this guy is like no I wasn't going to learn the digital stuff because I've you know like oh my gosh this is like everything everybody's talking about right now but it happened in there they documented it all it's pretty cool I want to watch is it the Fable man or something that's the Stevens yeah I want to watch that one I haven't watched it yet it was a big part of the series too yeah did you have give peacock yep okay the new show with Kaley Cuoco or how are you say your name called based on a true story I have not heard of that okay it's really good and I don't know if you watched The Mindy Project but the main guy um Danny from The Mindy Project is on it and I've never seen him in anything else I was pretty excited but it's about a serial killer podcast I'm on like it's almost like murders in the building because essentially they said I don't want to give anything away I think it says this in like the synopsis they are interviewing the serial killer for their podcast and no one knows whose podcast it is like they figure out who the serial killer is and they make a deal oh like the interviewers yes oh gosh okay yeah I'm enjoying it yeah that sounds uh intriguing yeah now there's a lot of blood so if you're queasy don't watch it but David's walking on a few times he was like maybe we should start this over I'm like in the middle that's okay the only thing I'm queasy about and it's funny because I have to watch a ton of food and cooking shows is people chewing I just can't stand people especially with their mouths open I'm just like oh stop not that I've ever really hit anything that's made me I won't throw up it's just it's like more of like a pet peeve it's like two weeks yeah follow your food my pet peezer like not putting agendas and meeting advice I have an agenda today I have an agenda today oh and we have to do a PSA today a public service announcement um can I start that and get it over with okay um I am a listener of our podcast go figure I just gotta make sure it sounds good uh but I use an app on Android called Stitcher um and we have a few other listeners who are using Stitcher we can see that in our podcast stats and Stitcher announced yesterday that it is going away as of August 29th so if you're a listener he's using Stitcher um we actually distributed our podcast through podbean and I found out last night that podbean has their own app that's like Stitcher and I downloaded it I was able to get our podcast set up back up and get all my stuff reconfigured so don't lose us just because stitcher's leaving Go download another app podbean is one we would recommend if you're like Allison and have an iPhone I think there's an app from Apple it comes already on your phone yeah so to our Stitcher listeners uh we had nothing to do with it it's uh Sirius is the one who did it um and they they're killing the app so serious like a radio yeah Sirius XM yeah apparently they bought it from Deezer networks or somebody and they actually paid like 300 million dollars for it and they're shutting it down yeah I hate that when you have an app that's really good and one of these big companies buys it and they're like oh we can't make any money off of it let's just kill it yeah remember when Flappy Birds came out and everyone was obsessed with it Angry Birds no there was a Flappy Bird one I promise and the guy like everyone wanted to buy it from him and so he just like took it off actually that does sound familiar he was like no like I'm and I was I never I never friends that were really really does ring a bell yeah well and then the other PSA I guess is not a PSA maybe just well maybe I'll edit this out but you're not going to be here next week you're on vacation no I am very I'm not bringing my laptop I am gonna be sitting on a raft in a lake did you want to nominate a guest host or we're just gonna skip that one and either take away our buffer it's up to you how much buffer do we have we have three right now I just do two when I'm back I mean okay yeah we've done that before yeah we can pick another guest host age yeah we do need to pick one and invite them don't we we had Connor um I think you had some in mind too so maybe I could work on that get that scheduled while you're out we've got a list of people that for some reason want to come talk to yeah we have some dedicate listeners and this is episode 20 by the way no thanks 20 episodes in exciting crazy how do you feel about that it hasn't felt like work for me but all I do is show up and then you do the work isn't too bad sometimes it's bad but um I mean you've made like 12 cents now right what is it 12 what didn't you say you've made like 12 cents off YouTube now oh um no I'm up to 44 I think yes like all the content I guess off of this show though I could probably go look I'd have to go look at each show and then total it up but yeah it's it's it's it's it's a it's a compensation that's very rewarding when you have millions of views but not so much when you have you know hundreds of views I'm still very proud of anybody who listens and takes the time to watch yeah so yeah I will see my sister next week though so I can have her record a g'day yes yes or we could do like an impromptu like and prompt your guest would she be down for that she wouldn't care her kids would probably love it yeah we should just like have her join you there are you gonna be there in your house or somewhere else no we're gonna be in St Louis well Lake St Louis which is actually like 30 40 minutes outside of like St Louis proper it's like several Towns over but I've known every summer up there for most of my life so didn't you do I you and I do a meeting from there like a work meeting um not from St Louis that was from Sikeston but yes okay yeah but my aunt and uncle live on the lake they're in Lake St Louis my aunt was a Court Circuit Judge for like a judge that's voted in yeah and so she was like oh judge and a lawyer and then got I don't know I don't know how judges get to that thing that's what she was she just retired in January and it's funny because she was like my first week of retirement I I volunteered for Junior Achievement okay but she got to do like some of her cases were I couldn't do it because she was juvenile court so just use your imagination but then she also got to do adoptions and she said that someone in the class she was at was like you did my adoption and had like a picture and I was like oh my goal in life is not to meet judges wow that's fair just do anything I can not to be the family then my uncle was in software development for work for the same company from the time he graduated college till he retired wow that's incredible these days I know maybe maybe we'll say the same about our current employer in four years we'll have our podcast episode number 2742. it will be like these two people still talking it's funny to talk about yes um another bit of news that just came hot off the press from one of our co-workers uh actually is a co-worker and another part of our company that we don't work with closely with but yeah servicenow just got awarded um the modern work app and solutions for Microsoft teams award from Microsoft oh wow so that was a big yeah we're just now Innovation so yeah I thought that was pretty cool yeah that is awesome have you done it in encryption with Microsoft anything no I don't do development anymore all I do is talk either so I got pulled into a sales call on last Friday and it was funny because they were just wanting deliveries perspective or whatever and are I don't want to say names but someone told my boss like she was so great I'm like I didn't do anything but sit there and talk about like [Music] you know I quite a build it goes a long way you know especially wow you know so those are the things I get to do now well that's that's just as valuable and sometimes more valuable it's like sometimes I'm like how do I do this that's why I style I like staying tactical despite that I probably don't have to yeah in my job but I do anyways yeah do you have a hard stop at the top of the hour no I just have to be done by 3 15. Dexter has his belt test today all that karate on your calendar yes it says yellow belt test would you consider karate like exercise is there an exercise component well so for the little kids which he's in what they call like minis so he has karate Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings so last Saturday these kids did not stop moving from the moment we walked in the door they had them run laps and they set up a fake obstacle course and like they wear them out and it is amazing like probably for you it's awesome yeah and then they play dodgeball and they were like do the parents want to play I'm like I yes I can hit my kid with the ball yeah and then I was like no no I'm good but yeah I mean they have I think the older kids some of the movements obviously like the jumping and the kicking like build some muscles but the little kids they they wear them out I mean it's and it's funny to me because I teachers deserve so much more money than they get I could not be a teacher because the patients on this Sensei guys just he has the patience of Job like these kids are just running them up getting you know he'll just like he has a very loud deep voice and as soon as he said something they're like they stop they lit and I'm just like I asked him last on Saturday I was like can I get a recording of you telling this stuff and he started laughing he was like it'll cost you I was like all right [Music] yeah that's the special skill I guess the few times I've been around little kids I get overwhelmed very quickly it's like okay if someone take them away yeah a lot well and it's funny because he's been asking like just random questions because he was like this group of minis is like pretty far along developmentally versus the other because he does it at multiple locations I guess and so he was like how long have they you know he's like how long has Dexter been able to talk I was like for too long very very long time and he was like walking to I was like oh yeah and Dexter has a pretty decent vocabulary but we're not big baby talk people so like we we talked to him like I'm talking to you I mean the only thing I say that's maybe baby talk is like jammies or potty because I'm not gonna say like you need to pee I I've never like understood baby talk and from my understanding it's the it's not the words that are important it's the tone and the pitch and you can even see like your dog respond to that I've seen you do it with your dog you kind of you know what do you call you say is your dog is uh Riley is um it's not procrastinating not staring what do you say to her harassing harassing yes yes but see how you do it how you say it I think is the difference well and like I have a mom voice like the first couple times I'm we don't do that you know but then I get to a point and [Music] they seem like at work like one of my really good friends heard me working one day and was like who are you and I was like I like income and being employed so let me ask you about that did you did that evolve as he got older like you started you had to start using it like you didn't use it with your partners before then well so like I started out working at customer service so I mean I started at a at an airline help desk which was a lot and I don't know I just like over the years it's changed a little bit but yeah I mean I've always worked in some sort of customer interaction so have you seen that espanol skit of the airline help desk I love that one where's this did you see the one with the um Scottish pilot no but I couldn't imagine so when we were in the CMA course we had at the time it's all changed since then because this was back in 2019. um the two instructors um one was British and one was Scottish and like they would just rib each other all the time but the guy always talk about like I have to be very cognizant of my speech because if I start talking fast and so he did it we were all like oh wow and he actually played us like the SNL skit because part of the course was like communication skills and so he was telling his own personal you know I have to be very aware because of my accent yeah but this kid's sister Riley's in her position again yes so weird before he's sleeping over here I got a cute picture of her cuddling with her penguin earlier um that's awesome no um I'm not sure what to ask you because the last video or one of them we talked about you don't do anything technical but is there anything new technically recently that you've come across that was interesting hmm oh my new car is technical um inside of work [Music] trying to think the one customer that you are aware of that I had to step into um they went live they gave me like a one day notice sorry that probably gave away too much but they went live and they have something weird going on with their portal that I'm trying to fix like the branding's not applying yeah so I've been trying to figure out what's going on which Super release are they on I think they're on Tokyo Tokyo yeah because they haven't upgraded yet so they're on two of you but it's interesting because the woman who's in charge of like being the admin once everything is wrapped I feel kind of bad because she's wanting a lot more hand holding I guess and we don't have the time and so I'm trying to help her but also like try to manage the expectations of like yeah we're out of time so yeah I remember a similar one um that was a government agency and they were really understanding because they knew like we know we only purchased so much and um and so like she was I can I could I could see her in my in my mind I can't remember her name but they were really understanding about it because they knew they were government and they just didn't have a ton of extra time well that's like this lady like she had no say in the statement of work or anything so I'm trying to like help her where I can but so a lot of the times I don't do do we um or do you or do we like tell people about the community service now community and places to go get help we do okay yeah I did um so when I first took over I did a couple enablement sessions with their whole team of like how to just do certain like how to navigate how to filter a list like right clicking and um how to build visual tasks or because for some reason customers are always like Blown Away by the kanban boards I love them too so don't get me wrong but I went through just some Basics and then I went over like update sets and clothing and all of the maintenance type things but now she's getting to a point where she just needs to go to take training yeah you know because a lot of the stuff that she's I don't want to say struggling with because she's not necessarily struggling she just doesn't know what she doesn't know and so she just really needs to go take the training and she'll get a lot of the background of stuff she's asking yeah and just a small short story about service portal um we have one of our showcase instances that um it patched it got some patches or something and there's this air that comes up shows up on the portal about the my items widget yeah so Connor sent me a note say hey we've got this error and it was like a Friday I started at 9 00 a.m I got it I got his email and I just when I started troubleshooting and looking at it next thing I know I look up it's 12 30. and I am down so many rabbit holes of widgets and script includes and all that I'm just like I still haven't fixed this GD error that's showing up on this portal uh and he felt so bad he was like don't work on them anymore and so I haven't gone back and looked at it but it's like even when you are experienced and know it sometimes it can be frustrating so if she watches this I know no there are things that that's the other thing like I don't mind telling someone like I don't know something yeah and when people have a hard time like they they feel like they lose the customer's confidence almost and I'm like no like it actually just makes you a normal person like hey I don't know everything but I can find out or I can you know and service now the platform is way too big now to know everything there's exactly I have to be selected in my content that I make because it's just yeah I can't look I can't do it all yeah your head would explain it would or I'd have no life yeah nothing would get nothing would grow in the garden if I didn't I don't think your dogs would be happy I don't think Haley would be happier no no she would not see how I can't see here the green screen is down okay yeah I don't really touch my computer after work that foggles my mind no like I switched to my MacBook after work like I'm looking at the news or see if I'm doing that I can just do it on my phone because I'm not gonna be like David uses his MacBook like to look at the news and then doing our budget spreadsheet and all those things I just yeah it depends on what I'm doing like if I'm booking flights I have to use my computer because I am a I compare because we have two airports that are like equidistant from our house so I always try and look at and then sometimes depending on where I'm going I'm like I'll just drive to Charlotte and have a direct flight and it's only a few hours but if my son's with me I'm probably not driving so I do a lot of comparisons actually the only thing like outside of work I mean I get my email on my phone yeah I guess I don't know like sometimes when I my tinkering like okay so there's there's working and troubleshooting and then there's doing stuff for YouTube and and there's kind of like maybe I got this idea and then there's this like a I'm gonna get a UI Builder and just start poking around I'll do that one watching TV and just like poke around like none of that I'll play like a game on my phone or read a book uh I could see you David get me Rory got bigger I just noticed that have you not seen her since she was sleeping last time remember yeah she's gotten big she's 15 or 16 yeah oh oh okay okay oh my gosh yeah she's got a way way there remember like the first time she's a fit in your hands I know I know he's got a wet noodle she tries to bring in all the sticks from the yard or if you have to go down some steps onto the patio it's like a wrought iron Rail and she got her stick stuck right now oh she couldn't go through she couldn't pull it through yeah but yeah anyways it's nice with sticks but she just likes to break them up into little pieces that's what she actually breaks them up in a little pieces and shoes on them because she's still in her chew phase yeah Haley's a grandma like she's old and she still does it yeah yeah yeah she's huge now wow that's incredible growth that was so crazy to me like they're fully grown up for like a year like humans were like that sure is where they add teeth to babies no that doesn't sound cool creepy so creepy like to see a baby with teeth like a full adult teeth yeah that's creepy yeah I don't know if I want to see that I like that children are at least small and Squishy you know like yeah exactly um any notes any other things any thoughts or anything before we wrap um episode 20. surprised we made it to 20. I made it for the long hauls I don't know about you but well I mostly meant like I because theme of imposter syndrome it's like I'm shocked people still listen sometimes and yeah I I would like to on that note I would like to like have like one thing each episode that like we can say this episode is about like we're gonna at least talk about this I just haven't figured out a good way to do that because I think there's one thing if it's one you got to decide ahead of time and then you and I both need time to maybe think about that thing so that we can contribute or add value I guess whatever yeah so we'll get there I I think what we've done in the meantime is we've got like a rhythm the editing Rhythm the recording Rhythm the release rhythm yes will be extra ahead when you're on back from vacation I hope you have a good vacation I took the whole week off I'm only gonna take a couple days and I ended up with like don't answer texts right well I mean I'll I'll be texting you probably but no did you see her did you see her's post about he did not answer texts while he was with his family no I'll answer texts I just don't text about work like I don't mind texting oh he was getting texted not working because he was put in there he goes You Know Who You Are they should have texted him about work while he was off I think so I hope I have only texted one person about work ever when they were on PTO but they gave me permission about that one thing because they were like text me when this happens I was like okay I was like are you sure I could handle it they're like no text me when I have cool well if we don't talk I think we will but yeah have a good vacation and you'll be getting cucumber pictures here soon I promise okay well I sent you my little babies yesterday yeah mine's a little bit bigger than that yeah well mine I went out there today and they've already gotten bigger and I was like doubled yeah they'll start going pretty fast yeah cool all right make sure if Dexter passes oh yes yeah definitely have fun at karate all right all right talk to you later bye [Music] [Music]
