Unleashing the Power of Creator Workflows: ServiceNow's Platform for Endless Innovation

Import · Jul 06, 2023 · video

[Music] [Music] all right I'm sitting here with Greg aldana head of creative workflows with servicenow Greg how you doing today I'm doing great man how you doing Mike I'm excited man I want to build some I want to build some uh custom workflows man that's what people are doing with Creator on the platform man so the it is the fastest growing workflow service now has going today right yeah tell us a little tell tell us a little bit of just some maybe something special some of these customers are leveraging Korean for yeah I know I mean it's it's absolutely amazing um you know it's kind of a servicenow is known by everybody's the ticketing platform right you know the IT Help Desk but like we're back to Fred's original Vision like greater workflows is what he had in mind yes core app engine or automation engine to build whatever our customers want to build yeah um and just just the sheer capabilities now with low code really introducing it and then kind of Widing the pool the developers so that business people could start building their own workflows means one of my favorite stories and actually you know I share a story every week oh yeah um there was something uh the the Navy chaplains yeah and so this is the part of the U.S Navy where you know the uh if you need a spiritual advisor or priest a rabbi you know someone to give you that spiritual advice that you need while you're at Sea where you're at War and they trained a bunch of chaplains no technical skills whatsoever how to build apps on service now and they built a mobile app so that servicemen had to be mobile offline could request a spiritual services and then they had a custom dashboard where they could start to see did they have enough of the right denomination on a certain ship or a certain base yeah and they did this in two weeks wow yeah I I love what you said what you're also saying too is this is is the original Mission of Fred Luddy yeah I mean if you look at itsm these other applications HR these are just pre-built applications that servicenow has curated over the years improved over the years and and just rolled out servicenow is a platform and we know there are so endless use I mean that that may be I've never heard that I've never heard anything close to what you did but there are endless use cases of process automation low code quick to Market quick to Value absolutely and servicenows is never gonna just pre-build all these applications so open it up to customers and let them run wild it's you know we're never going to out innovate our customers no matter we can never keep up with building a healthy to keep up with it it's so true but the nice thing about it is with with with service now our customers can innovate on their own they can do it safely they can do within the guardrails and if you just think about just the sheer nature of trying to keep up with business I mean covert really exposed this but you know another great example and you see this a lot in public sector because there is no out-of-the-box products it does it um when the United States uh evacuated Afghanistan two years ago they had no way to deal with the demand for repatriation requests back to the United States they use service now to build a public-facing app within a week custom workspace internally and they've used that initial system they've grown it over the years but they've used it to um to repatriate back 70 000 refugees all the customers because there is nothing I remember hearing about that yeah I remember and this that was one of the moments that you know that and some of the covet apps were built in to help you know citizens you know have food assistance things like that I just remember being like Oh my God this because I I always I always had all this crazy like I want to change the world I want to like make an impact and like that those are those moments that it's like whoa we're using service now and if you told me that back in 2010 that yeah we'd be using servers now to help refugees out of Afghanistan like it's unbelievable there's just some just some phenomenal use cases but the the nice thing about service now is like with a lot of other Technologies you kind of have to make a choice you know you're either going to go out of the box or you're going to go custom app or you're going to go low code or are you going to go pro code you don't need to make that choice and one of our customers I think coined this term great he said with servicenow it's not buy versus build it's by two build yeah you buy into servicenow's platform where you get the Best in Class it customer and employed products but plus you get their core platform where you can build whatever you want endless Innovation endless Innovation oh let's let's I I'm a trademark I'm telling you I like this Innovation I like the end but think about it with an invite surface now you have to go out and buy an SDK to customize our platform no you can do that out of the box and the scoped app must have been just just such a game changer for a Creator right oh my God because I mean it just went from like you know custom tables yeah to now true applications well and that's that's a good point I mean it's really evolved over the years to just being capacity to do things on the platform yeah and they had a customer in New Jersey asked me about this yesterday you know how can you do all this customization Greg without killing the upgrades I'm like because everything gets done in a scope yeah if you're if you're developing the right way developing the right way and I said so we don't even use the word customization anymore because app engine is out of the box yeah exactly when you're extending CSM or hrsd you're doing that extensions and that inheritance in a scope yes we're not letting you change the underlying source code of CSM exactly like so that product won't break in your customization or your configuration is now just a scoped extension and that's why it doesn't break on the upgrade and you can just see the wheels turning like wow oh it's genius and that's why those two words I try to just get it out of everyone's head customization persolation because it means different things to different people totally I like to say personalization I like Greg I have to say your your passion is infectious I may have met my match in passion but thank you for all you do for the community appreciate it in servicenow uh we we love Creator um let's go scoped app baby let's go down come on I can't wait to see the the next one we're going to show a custom app built by the the Glide let's go let's go let's go here take care foreign
