Send ANY ServiceNow Task to Azure DevOps

Import · Jul 04, 2023 · video

[Music] thank you hey everyone it's Justin thank you for watching and welcome to my house that's Justin's house in this video I want to show you more servicenow and Azure devops if you haven't seen the first video please go back and watch that first the most important concept that I wanted to convey when sewing this integration is integrating servicenow Agile development with Azure devops and it's going to save you so much time and in this video you're going to see incidents from servicenow and customer service tasks making their way over to Azure devops and I'm going to show you how easy that is on the left hand side here I have service now that is an agile backlog that some of you may be familiar with for my servicenow sprinters team and then over on the right hand side I have the work items showing in Azure devops so we can see things happen in real time but for now I'm going to open up my servicenow window just a little bit bigger and let's start talking about incidents and customer service tasks incidents are an I.T service management or high TSM record and service now and sometimes we need to get those over to our Azure devops teams in order to complete some work or provide a status so we're going to take advantage of the unified backlog and servicenow by grabbing a triage board to bring those incidents in so let's go ahead open the triage board I've got one set up already for incident and let's see what that looks like I've got all the incidents in my system and I can now grab one of these and put them in my backlog now this isn't a very helpful view I just noticed I don't have short description anywhere so I can't see what any of these incidents are about so let's just fix that real quick and see how easy it is to update servicenow when we need to see something I'm actually going to get rid of all of these and I'm going to change here also I want the states in addition to the short description and that's enough for my demo so I can have three things to see there the incident in progress and a short description and let's go ahead and grab this delay in the impact of jobs now that's resolved so we don't want to grab that one okay let's grab this new one here three one five eight two I'm just gonna check that box here so I'm gonna highlight what I just did I checked the box and then I'm going to use this add to backlog button here in the upper right hand side and we're going to add it to our backlog so that's going to put that item within the triage within the backlog for the servicenow Spinners that we were just looking at so let's scroll down here and we can see the little Pac-Man logo at the very very bottom showing an incident and then that incident description so we can see that let me get my annotation tool working here so I can highlight that incident there at the bottom so there's a delay in the impact jobs the longest delay is 540 seconds that's all I did I added to my backlog and it's now assigned to servicenow sprinters but if you've seen the first video you would know that if it goes into the backlog it automatically gets synced to Azure devops if it's assigned to the servicenow sprinters team so let's take a look what happened over here I'm just going to click on the board and we should see that automatically came over two Azure devops there is a delay in the impact jobs and you can do the same things I showed in my last video we can pull up these two different stories an incident on the servicenow side issue on the Azure devops side and they're going to talk to each other so let's go ahead while it's loading and servicenow and add a comment since it got sent to Azure devops here's a comment oh that's all caps we don't want to scream at anybody here's a comment we um we are on the case and maybe we want to let somebody know so let's look over here let's switch to the story information and servicenow and let's just watch these work notes down here I'm going to hit save in Azure devops and that is automatically going to get sent over into servicenow to show up in our work notes on those stories so we should see it here popping in a second and that's how easy it is to do let me go ahead and scroll down here and there's my comment here's a comment we are on the case so that is an incident going from servicenow to Azure devops with no configuration other than what we did in the first video having a story sink back and forth so how do we do that for customer service tasks this was an incident the same way so I'm going to start with my triage board I'm going to create a new triage definition and we're going to go ahead and call this customer service tasks so this would be like a customer calls in they're having an issue with something and you need to hand this over to the um to the development team to actually fix something that a customer is calling in or submitting a a case about and so we want to create a case or a task for our Azure devops teams to resolve that so I've just created a new board showing all of the um the customer service task sorry I had to think there for a second that we want to have part of our backlog now because of a weird servicenow Quirk I got thrown into my other story so I'm just going to go back to my backlog planning here and get back in there and I should see now if I go to my triage board customer service tasks there's 32 of them out there compared to the 200 1698 in My Demo instance all right hopefully that's not production for somebody but here's a bunch of tasks coming from uh the customer case customers customer service management that I may want to go ahead and add to my backlog so let's get this inspect router for John Jason and I'm going to go ahead and do the same thing that we did before I'm going to check that box over here on the left hand side and I'm going to click this add to backlog button up in the upper right hand side and that's going to put it in my backlog for the servicenow sprinters team so if we scroll down to the bottom we have to go to page two because we've got too many but we can see I've got my Pac-Man logo there and my customer service task number and the short description of inspectrader let's go ahead and pull that up so it's loading and I'll just shrink the screen back over here so that we can look at Azure devops I'm going to go back to our work items and we should see that come through for the customer service task now this one is called inspect router let's make sure the story in from Nation got the same name yeah inspect router and there it is at the top I think I just didn't see it the first time inspect router automatically came through let's open it up and say we are inspecting and we'll put an exclamation point on there and we'll scroll down and look at the work notes here and we should see that work note come through automatically indicating that they are inspecting it so that is the two things integrated and it's more than just stories like I said if you use the backlog the unified backlog capability within servicenow you can send any task that's in servicenow to your Azure devops team by just adding it to the backlog using those triage boards I hope you found this video helpful if you did please like Please Subscribe or share with somebody who you think might be interested in integrating servicenow records with Azure devops to get work over to your agile your Azure devops teams and get status updates and information back into servicenow until next time and don't forget to always be learning foreign [Music] [Music]
