foreign [Music] hi there my name is Lawrence Tyndall here at glidefest Consulting and in today's servicenow tutorial I'm going to show you how to delete the related configuration item of an asset you'll notice that when you navigate to a hardware asset in servicenow there is a delete asset only related link but there isn't an option for deleting the CI only sometimes in service now it's common that you create Hardware assets and configuration items automatically get created that you don't need and later on in the future when you're cleaning up your cmdb you notice you have Ci's that you don't need and you only need their assets in today's tutorial I'm going to show you how to successfully delete the configuration item of an asset while keeping the asset record to get started we're going to head over to the hardware assets module and open up the hardware asset that as a configuration item related to it now to delete the configuration item for this Apple MacBook Pro click on the information icon next to the configuration item field and click on the open record button you'll now be navigated to the configuration item form to delete the configuration item only we need to First remove the relationship between the hardware asset and the configuration item to do this right click on the form header and click on configure related lists in the available column select the asset configuration item related list and move it over to the selected column now click on the save button now to remove this relationship from the assets related list we need to enable the edit button to do this right click on the column headers and select configure and list control from the list control form we need to uncheck the omit edit button field and then click on the update button now go to the assets related list and click on the edit button now to remove the relationship move the Apple MacBook Pro asset from the selected list to the available list and click save you'll now see that the relationship between the asset and the CI has now been removed now if you click on the delete button you'll notice that the confirmation modal doesn't include the hardware asset that this CI was previously related to you have successfully deleted the configuration item and kept the hardware asset record and that is all for today's tutorial on how to delete the related CI of an asset in service now [Music]
