Industry Reference Models and CSDM Recorded April 27th 2023

Import · May 14, 2023 · video

welcome everybody to our Digital Services Forum bi-weekly call today we're going to go through some industry reference architectures and then we're going to show you why we're talking about it by tying it back to the csdm which is a topic we've been spending a lot of time on in this group before we get started I always like to welcome the new members so if you're on for the first time today and a lot of times we'll see people come in and out of this forum depending on the topics but if you aren't for the first time today if you can go ahead and drop your um drop your name and then where you're from in chat so everybody can walk into the group and then we'll also have that recorded so we know it's your first time that'd be great there's a link that can get you everything you need for the group and I put it all in one place on the Forum so this link will get you to our Zoom registration it'll get you to the Forum home page which is basically the community which that's what we're using to share information we also have a YouTube channel and then we have a shared instance that I've been um we have about 150 admins on this instance so this is a Sandbox that people can go in there and try things um it's important on this instance to note too that it's not it's not this pristine instance that has the exact use cases you might be needing set up what we put it there for is so that people can use it to demo small things so this way after you demo on the Forum you don't have a bunch of people saying how do you do that well just log into the instance and see how I did it and so we don't want to put a big burden on people when they come and share things here that's an easy way to set something up that you want to show and then you could just you know people can go back to the video and then look at what you did in the instance so that's what that instance is there for it's not to be like a showcase instance or anything like that for Digital Services but if you do um if you do want to get a link this will set you up with an email to get a link to that instance and I'm a little bit behind usually I get to those about once a week it's been something I've been meeting the automate for a while but right now it's a manual thing where we have to go create these admin users we started this group back in 2018 and the reason we started was to really focus on the cmdb and defining the cmdb and how we be Trend how can we be transformative with with our definitions and what we're doing and then what we did is we transitioned we said what are we really doing all this stuff for and it ended up being because everybody wants to do digital transformation and we want to be able to measure things properly and so that we can move in the direction of automation we want to be able to see and have different views on what we're trying to automate and what we need to automate and that's really where we took the group over the last few years so our mission is to enable people to do that right to support their digital Transformations and then to use the servicenow platform to do that we share as much as we can and it could be a white paper it could be a PowerPoint it might even be a little bit of code that we share a couple times people share things on GitHub the my whole team is the one who hosts this so there's a group of us that are the main hosts but we have Enterprise architecture East Enterprise architecture West and then an industry team with helmet and we all get together and we decide on content and we try to bring as many customers as we can that we're working with to come in and share with us so that you can get the most out of this hour that we spent together our main structure for getting the data out is these bi-weekly calls from time to time we'll have special events like we did a couple workshops where we built some some csdm models and things like that we did some other architecture workshops and we haven't done one of those in a while so it might be something that that's worth planning pretty times uh sometime pretty soon we did like a three or four hour workshop and we kind of break out into groups and do things together that's it if we if we see the need there and there is a big need in csdm in the middle there was a big need to um and get everybody designing those things and um that's what we did that's when we had the csdm workshop I think it was about a year and a half ago so I'm gonna I switched the agenda around a little bit from what I sent out but it's the same topics right so in the beginning Jason and I are going to go through we're going to talk a little bit about our EA team project and a lot of us today we're soliciting information from you guys to see how you can what we can do in that project to best serve our our customers right everybody that's on the phone right our EA team goes out and our big goal is to help you be smarter about how you implement and how you do Service delivery so we have some ways that we're running this project Now to create an industry reference architecture so that we can help our customers and we want to make sure we're doing the right things and we want to hear from you what we could be doing differently or how we might deliver it differently I'm going to do a little demo today I'm going to show you a couple new tables and um and actually tie that to the EA team project where we can enable some parts of those some parts of those what we're doing in the project some of the content for Value streams and business capabilities specifically we're going to share some assets and we're going to do some discovery on the call we have a couple questions we'd like to ask everybody and again that's going to help us shape that project a little bit better so that eventually the output that gets to you is something that's worth it for you and then we'll have a little discussion we're going to tie this back in and talk about why we're doing it why we're spending this I think it's the last four meetings now on business architecture all right so let's talk a little bit about the the project that we're working on right now and and why our leadership saw the need to start this project up is one of our our leaders that that um actually got us all teed up with it and we're driving this to create an Enterprise reference architecture so basically a business reference architecture if you will and the contents of that reference architecture that we're delivering is a strategy map and don't worry if you don't know what it is I'm gonna I'm gonna tell you what it is and then how it's useful uh value streams business capabilities and then a briefing deck for you know how do you use those things right so the idea here is that if we're doing proper design and we're trying to rationalize as much as we can and share as much as we can across our service delivery platform this should all land in your environment right so there's there should be stuff that you're doing you're taking from here from our reference architecture and you're customizing that to make it work for you right so whether it's the value streams that are provided by us or somewhere else which we're going to talk about the like what the industries offer then we want to make sure that you're being able to find a better roadmap create better architectural views and different things that you need to communicate that information the working teams right now just so you understand servicenow's focus a little bit are all these people down on the right hand side so you'll see my name on here in state and local government and then Jason is focused on financial services and Charles are you on today none of Charles's uh Charles might have had a meeting but he's working on manufacturing and then um and then I think Rachel's involved in a couple of them so there's there's all these people that are putting these artifacts together with that General guidance right the general guidance is we need to be able to as an Enterprise architecture team we need to be able to provide a reference architecture for our Industries to our customers okay and I'll go through a few of these things just so you can understand the artifacts a little bit so we look at a strategy map a lot of you may have seen this these before my builds are a little messed up but a strategy map is something really high level from a leader in your organization a lot of times it's the CIO there might be a couple of these people there might be the chro might have a very specific thing for what they're doing with digital transformation it might be the clo it might be a couple of these these strategy maps that we have that we're looking at very high level things that you're trying to do as an organization and I took the government one here so this is has a government tilt to it but what are all those big imperatives or goals or initiatives whatever it will be so these are some that come from industry guidance so in the government for example it's it's an organization called nasio provides the top 10 every year and then you can see from the imperatives what are the things in the way of accomplishing those imperatives the desired outcomes is something we try to make time bound and uh measurable so that we can see if we're actually accomplishing these things and then at the end we say okay now let's start to look at the service now instead of doing it backwards like a lot of times we do we're like oh we got all these things we're not using right now how do we use that thing well if you don't need it to do this stuff who really cares right it's it's it's a pet project sometimes so if you can always tie it back to that big value that you're trying to create that actually gets out to the citizens or gets out to your employees that's going to be the the main value delivery so this is a good slide to use the front end a lot of different presentations if you don't have one of these already your account team should help you with this so your account team should be able to get you these strategy maps and help you go through the first few so that you can always be reminded of what are the high level goals that we're trying to accomplish okay so that's a strategy map uh value streams their value streams have been around for a really long time except that you hear about them in all these different contexts so there's a value streams here is this is as defined by nist and the big thing of a value stream is we're delivering things through a digital medium or not right we're delivering things and we need to make that delivery better and faster so how do we do that and if you look at nist right it's all about the measurement of the steps of the processes right because the value stream isn't one process the value stream is usually a bunch of smaller processes that are put together to deliver value and so as you go through the different steps what are those steps that you need to do and then how do we tear them down almost like a factory to say hey that part of the assembly line is slow how do we tear them down so that we can see where to improve or where to automate and so the value streams help you with all that at a very high level so that we can go down and um and use those as a lot of building blocks that you'll use to build these value streams because that's really what you're trying to do as an organization if you look at the ones on the right one of the approaches I took is go out to the industry and and see what the industry decided are the important value streams so the business architecture Guild is one that you guys heard from a few weeks ago uh bill was on from there and these are the 40 or so value streams that are important to government and with these these could be building blocks for other value streams or or they can be delivered directly in themselves like acquire an asset there might be some specific things to that but when you acquire an asset in government 60 to 80 percent of that's going to be the same right so so how what are those parts that are the same that we can templatize right so we're not doing things over and over and over again so all those different value streams are ones that we could look at for government and um so that's kind of the value stream component right it's the delivery of value to some end user in in government in my case it's it's citizens and its employees are the two primaries that we're looking at but mainly citizens right we're serving the employees so that they can better serve citizens and if we look at level one government digital capabilities right this is a capability map so these are business capabilities from the business architecture Guild it's referenced on the bottom and these are 54 capabilities that they've worked on for seven years there's thousands of hours put into flushing out these are the right set of capabilities for a government to run government now it's not to say that every little thing is in there right but you can patch these things together to to make everything you need in government to deliver all the value you need to a citizen to an employee or even from agency to agency all that value should be at these capabilities so the idea the capabilities and and there's going to be you know more on this as you go but the idea of these capabilities is that your agnostic of the agency or who you're providing and a lot of times we see that hey these are things for this agency these are things for that agency or that department now this is agnostic of all those things okay another thing that was on there was a journey and there's uh there's going to be a couple different interpretations of what a journey looks like but this is a journey of a citizen where they would come in and actually ask for something so this is more of a visual representation this is more of an architectural view maybe that you'd pull out and you'd be able to show certain pieces along the way okay so if we go back up to that slide real quick the uh this slide those are the when we talk about a reference architecture those are some of the pieces so we looked at the strategy map the value streams the business capability map and then there'd be a briefing deck kind of like the start of what I'm showing you here where we'd be able to show you hey this is what we have in our reference architecture and this is how you should be able to apply it to your organization okay so that's a high level overview of our project and um Jason is this a good time you think for you to poke in a few slides and show like done Finance what you're doing yeah yeah definitely let me uh can you guys hear me okay yep I can hear you okay I'm gonna take over the screen here real quick and I'll show you um I'm going to pop a question up too while you take over okay you guys should see a question on your screen now I think there we go I'll share the results with that just so we can see if we have the right the right industry is covered here all right that's it okay good so uh yeah you guys will let you guys look at the the question there the poll first and we do have a lot of uh just because John you know you you're the founder of this uh group you have a lot of government uh you know customers aligned we're trying to expand just so you know for the for the members to know uh the industry membership so uh one of the things we do is EAS now uh is being mandated by our management is to help you know send invites to all of our customers and get people engaged uh into the actual Digital Services Forum so that's just something where we're heavily focused on as well as expanding the the membership here okay you can see our spread there so we have more from uh Telecom yeah that's good yeah all right thanks everybody so yeah so as John said I think uh one of the things and we're we're trying to standardize on a similar format I think that's a big thing is is aligning to Value streams uh so that's and then obviously there's a financial services uh reference architecture as part of the business architecture Guild that John mentioned that we're also working on aligning uh specific areas of focus for servicenow uh to that business architecture because it it'll help us I mean the idea for us is to you know make sure that we're we're aligning specifically to where a customers businesses are and that the capabilities we bring to bear are specifically providing value for areas of focus and so that's the whole idea of this and and to have a repeatable set of documentation to allow us to do that uh this this deck has a lot of charts in it um I'll just show you a couple things first so are we we go by capability Maps we talk a lot about uh and you know you'll see a couple different versions of this but basically uh that's a visual representation of the servicenow platform and our capabilities and then we have the reference architecture which is then what we use to align uh those capabilities to to the customer um depending on where they are in that Journey so that's those are the two areas you'll focus on in this uh and then there's a couple things we look at um so we have these capability models here uh and this is for FSI technology capability model in banking we have them for for all three of the financial services sub-domains so for wealth management insurance and banking those are the three key ones uh and So within this you see that you have products and services across an ecosystem Enterprise and you see that a lot of this for for FS is focused on the customer side of the of the business in the middle and back office um so you won't see you don't see a lot of it specific things focused on but the technology is used to leverage and automate the functions that you see in this middle box of products and services and you can see a lot of these are are based on the type of financial services customer this is in this case banking so there's these different areas of focus within a bank lines of business if you will and what we do is is try to align the specific capabilities that we have to those lines of business looking at the value streams that that are attached to them in the in the overall value they get from that so that's that's one thing we do as well but this will all be changing because we're gonna a lot of this will be incorporated into the value stream discussion that John had mentioned he's um working on that for the uh you know for the federal space as well but this is one example where we we start to look at we really want to take a customer-centric view from our customers point of view and then their customers and then figuring out where we best provide value through that ecosystem because we're not going to provide it everywhere but you know where we do provide capability in real value we want to have those specific alignment points so that's the whole point of having this and we like I said we have it for all three of the uh the major areas um within Financial Services so any questions uh so far I know that's a couple things this is uh we start to talk about financial services operations so I don't want to go too much into that but but basically the way we've we've actually developed specific workflows um and uh specific capabilities that align to this reference architecture and uh and so you'll see that as part of our financial services operations platform specifically for insurance and banking we we have a lot of uh of you know pre predefined workflows for those particular Industries and uh we're we're we continue to expand that industry Focus uh as well uh that get that just gives us our customers a faster time to Market to leverage these functions where they can specifically align them to their business uh let's see see if I have some other this is what a capability map typically looks like uh this is one version of it there are a couple different versions of this uh but this is the servicenow capability map and what we do is use this to Overlay onto you know the the capability model you know and then we so we start to then align those things together so that when we create this specifically for a customer it's directly aligned to the specific capabilities and services that servicenow is going to provide to our customers uh just a quick that's a couple quick flavors of it I'll show a couple other charts here see I'll probably move around a little bit here um let's see if I can find I'm gonna go off so I can move around a little bit uh and then we talked about the the common service data model I think you know John's going to go through how we tie value streams and business services and business reference architectures to the csdm I think that's a key aspect and the demo will cover some of the areas we focus on that which is really important because that'll give our customers a Baseline for for building these things right away right that are specifically aligned to areas of focus within the organization specifically on the customer side so if we look at uh let me go find the let's see if I can there's a a lot of different charts in here that talk about mapping and again a lot of this has been translated into into value streams uh so it'll simplify quite a bit um but uh you can see here we have the banking and Retail commercial and then we have our technology stack and the ecosystem these are good to see because we see capabilities that our customers leverage and platforms they're using for back office and how we would possibly integrate with them uh and and working with those third parties to ensure that we have that workflow across the organization so again these technology Stacks help us we do a lot of that proactive work to Define where in our customers core banking applications are their players that we're going to have to work with um in this space right and you can see there there's a couple different ones here but um that have actually uh capabilities that are driving this so there's there's multiple aspects of this and leveraging service now to integrate with them is a key aspect of as well especially where customers have made huge investments in these in these uh platforms and capabilities so um so we have it for commercial we have it for insurance and it looks something's a little bit similar you'll see a similar stack um here and you can see it just helps us align to where the key services are within these different areas of Focus Insurance being highly complex so uh it's it's one that we really do leverage uh the reference architecture quite a bit for when we're really trying to understand the customer's business and figuring out where we're best going to provide value across the organization as we continue to expand outside of I.T which is an area heavily focused for servicenow is to really start to expand significantly outside uh into the into the customer ecosystem so that's that's one thing and then you'll see this a similar thing for wealth management uh similar thing to where we we just are mapping what a typical wealth management customer would look like in the services they provide to their customers and then we do some capability mapping to this in order to align our capabilities to them you can see that at the bottom here where we start to look at these different capabilities and what are the what are the ecosystem systems of record that we need to integrate with that kind of thing so it's a starting point for us as EAS you know to help both understand what the challenges are in a customer ecosystem and then starting to make sure that we're aligning specific to areas of value um and that they're getting the most out of those things so yeah that's uh that's just the high level view you'll see a lot more in the future on this as we said we're trying to standardize and go to Value streams so the the documents will become more more standardized and uh you know so I you know look forward to working um and finalizing this for uh for financial services and there's a whole team uh behind us that are working on this as well so yeah any questions feel free to drop them in the chat or uh you can uh ask them as we go so appreciate it cool a couple questions I can go down and then you can add anything on Jason you want but um Russ was asking is anything for construction the I think I'd say that some of these reference models like if you go to the industry standards and we'll talk a little bit about them in the beginning I mean in The Next Step here we'll talk about some of what we can get from the industry I don't know of any reconstruction specifically but all these groups that create the content like the business architecture Guild and apqc and a couple other ones they do have a most of them have core reference models that you can use for any industry but some of them have gone and put a smattering on the top specific to that industry so there's the the course set of capabilities for construction you can probably get from anywhere unless somebody knows of one where we have a pre-built capability model or set of value streams for construction does anybody know yeah I mean I I think that that would I I don't know if that that falls under uh a specific area industry within uh service now um but uh we we do have I know that this year we've really heavily leaned into manufacturing uh we do have as you know John we've we've expanded uh our industry focus and then their sub domains within that area as well um but uh so so we continue to build the key is getting the standardized reference architecture I guess the the process and the methodology right and then from there we can you know expand into different Industries uh you know as we go pretty easily um but uh yeah I don't think we have anything specific for construction but I know that manufacturing would be probably the uh maybe the closest but um but yeah we don't have anything specific for that yet okay and then um Randy we're going to talk a little I don't know Randy um yeah so we'll talk a little bit about the industry standards and actually pull you for some more if we missed any but actually let's pull up the poll for that so let's see what everybody's using is if anybody's doing business architectures today here's some of the places you can get content and um I'm wondering if anybody any of the people are using these because we're trying to meet you where you are looks like apqc a little bit on ba Guild and if you have if you're one of the ones checking other it looks like more using other if you can just um write what the other is in there to make sure we're not missing anything that'll help us with our project too so if you can say other and then what industry you're using it for that'd be great okay I'll give it just another minute if you see that poll up there we got about half of you guys in so far all right I'm gonna go ahead and end it there yeah so it looks like we have a little bit in apqc um about the same in the guild so they're 25 and 33 percent um TVM Council so it looks like we're evenly spread across those three and then other and what are the others if anybody has the others in there that there's five five others that answered um I'd like to know what those are if you could that'd be great okay thanks Jason for sharing appreciate that let me go back here and see now one of the ones that I've been because I went out looking for all the standards and one of the ones I landed on was the guild and um I asked Bill to speak on here a couple weeks ago and one of the reasons um if you go to the guild under resources and I am logged in right now but they'll be um industry reference models at the business architecture Guild and in those industry reference models there's actually a page you can go to their online store and because I'm a member I'll be able to see all of the industry reference models that they have today now the person that asked about construction before there is a common reference model here so even if you don't have an industry specific one and that means they have a committee together that's been working on these things so if you don't have that one you can go ahead you can either buy these reference models for three hundred and fifty dollars or you could become a member for 125 dollars a year and you can download these models like my price is free right now because I'm a member and so I can come download this government industry reference model for to work with my area now when I download that reference model it's going to give me and I'll give you a quick peek at this one of the things you agree to when you become a guild member right is you can't share the model so I can't give you my spreadsheet that's going to have that model in there you'd have to go join and then and then download the model yourself or or buy it for for your organization now a couple of things I did with this reference model so we can start using it is um when you go on here that they'll give you is a capability map value streams they'll give you an information map which is what the capability maps are based on but if I go into the capabilities you'll see they've been working on this there's tens of thousands of hours in it right there's 23 when you go to level one level two level three there's um in the 2300 plus capabilities when they go down to different levels so what I showed you in the PowerPoint slide was just level one but with level one you can't really get that far you need to Dig Down Deeper to understand the capabilities and how you can share now the other things in here they'll give you a value streams so there's a bunch of predefined value streams for your industry which they give you and then as you click on these value streams there'll be specific things so you actually go through and Define the steps for you and so this these are you know tens or to hundreds of people working on this over the years what I did on this too is I wrote a little bit of VB code so I wanted to format this so I could start bringing the value streams into servicenow so what I did here is I wrote a VV script that would go ahead and turn the turn that data into into something that I can ingest into service now right especially the value streams the capabilities went in pretty straight but I had to be able to create you know extract the content to build the right data here so so when I run this macro what it'll do is it'll go and pull all the data and then build value stream value stream stage with a description and then um it basically builds all my processes so that I can import them into servicenow so if you are one of the members of The Guild and you want this um this macro I can send the macro over that's one way now what we're hoping to do is at least in the government section what I'm hoping to do is to be able to give you this if you say hey I'm a member of The Guild I downloaded the reference model I now have it in my possession and I know there's there's two states I'm working with right now that are members then what will happen is um I'd be able to share my assets with you right so if you if you go to the servicenow store and what I did is I installed the value stream artifacts and this is available to anybody so you'd have to add these are new tables to Value stream tables so when you go to the store you would click on this and then if you haven't been in the store before it would let you go ahead and request it for your instance and then it will add these new tables in that basically give you value stream data or places to park your value streams so you can use them for design later if I go into the instance what that looks like is all of these imported into servicenow and the one I showed you out of the reference architecture from The Guild is acquire asset so if we click on acquire asset and um unfortunately we don't have time today to show you how do we use all these assets right but I the first thing is getting the data right so this will be a set of processes right around defining the acquire asset value stream and then there's like I said with the government reference architectures the only one I can really speak to there's 40 plus of those value streams that you'll get with the reference model so if you haven't defined any value experience before it's a really good place to start now the other thing I did is I imported that capability model from the business architecture Guild spreadsheet so if you are a member of The Guild and you do have um you you have downloaded that model I can give you my export of the business capabilities table and over time we're looking for a better way to get that to you like how do we validate you remember the guild and then get you this this update set um or this this data set that we can push into your instance all right so here I'm on if you have uh APM you'll have this EA workspace if not you'll have the raw table under csdm so if you just have csdm under design you'll have the business capability table right so you'll either have this view if you don't have APM or you'll have the um the EA view like this if you do have APM and then here what you can do is you can say okay how do we do dispute management dispute definition and now I can start mapping my applications to my capabilities so that I can see what I have and what I don't have and avoid duplication which is a big part of APM okay so a lot of it is um this is great if you don't have content and I think that's why I went after this in some other Industries they might be approaching it differently because a lot of customers have well-established capabilities and a lot of government organizations they don't have business capabilities or value streams that are really defined in a in a consistent manner so somebody might want to take this whole reference architecture just dump it into the instance and then start deleting what they don't need instead of um instead of just using one or two things out of the spreadsheet which is an option as well right but that's that's when I'm thinking about a reference architecture I'm not actually thinking about the content for it and how we can use these is our business architectural building blocks right and that's that's where I want to get to with this and like that's why I really like the ba Guild it's really complete they spend a lot of time vetting what does order management mean for government and what does claim management mean so that's why I liked it a lot because it's actual content it doesn't tell you how to define a business capability it says here's the business capability that we talked about for the less I think seven years I think they've been working on these uh reference architectures so it's really good content to get started with okay any questions on the guild data or um any of those pieces good John yeah this is at uh so once you load the business capabilities and now that we have the value strings in is the connection to be able to map your business capabilities to your value streams because I want to be able you know where I'm going with that right I do and I like where you're going yes yeah but that's what we want to get to is if we can get some of this data in there uh consistently we can start to say how do we use it yeah a big part of it is going back just like you said to that value stream and then how do we take that uh that value stream and and say what capabilities are used in the value stream or which sub processes are used under the value stream right so there's that there's relating of processes and capabilities when you're doing design to make it all reusable but that's exactly where we're going and I'm going to show you when we talk about the csdm section I'm going to show you a little bit about what's there now and what's going to be there someday okay because what I've done outside of servicenow and then the mapping that I'm working on to servicenow this is for SPM I have a value stream for SPM and then the value stages and then across mapping to the business capabilities of SPM okay that's perfect that's we're looking to do and I yeah with the guild I have to be careful about sharing some information but that's basically they had they had this really good example of renting a hotel room and then within one value stream stage you may have you may use five or six capabilities within that stage right they're building blocks you may use a bunch of capabilities and then and maybe across three different processes may be used as well so there's mapping of processes to like like a hierarchy of processes on under conduct audit here right initiate audit may have three child processes in there so but yeah that's the type of design we want to get to with everybody right is to be able to enable that chunk of the csdm right and one of the things that we've been doing during our implementations we just bake the the cost of the guild into the implementation because we want to use the map but like you said you can pay the 350 or become a member I've been a member now for three years an amazing organization I just amazing organization yeah because especially for us because we're not practitioners we're not actually doing business architecture so that's the only time when I'm with the guild committees is the only time I actually get to practice business architecture so it works out really well for us too the um yeah that's why I want to take it this year is like we've been talking in the first couple years of this group we talked a lot about csdm and how do you define things in cstm I really want to get to this stuff like how do you use these things to be better at design right foreign and I can start to share like some of the things that we've done because one of so what my goal was was that um taking the 10 domains from the business architecture Guild and mapping them into the csdm I saw where you started that I have some other pieces that as soon as I'm working on some stuff now that I can share with the group like stakeholders there is a stakeholder table on the platform so I've got a lot of those mappings already from the domains from the business architecture Guild into servicenow I've been working on it for a minute or two or three one of the things we got to be careful of is you the guild doesn't want us like we The Guild wants people to be members because you can download those things but you don't really understand them until you're a member so we have to be a little bit careful about sharing it with customers that aren't members or that that didn't go in there and explicitly download the reference architecture correct so just a little agree we're trying to get a company um we're trying to get the company to do this too but we're trying to figure that out like how do we what's the verification so that we can automate some of that and just populate the tables that would be really nice long term so working with um Durant a little bit on that the APM product manager hopefully we can make it a little bit easier for everybody to get started but I'm definitely interested in looking at what you have Sarah that'd be great all right I'm going to provide these I gave you guys some links inside I gave you the link to the Digital Services forum some of the stuff that Jason showed this is the current state of the assets that we have so this will give you a bunch of a bunch of what we currently have the stuff that Jason showed us stuff we're working on now these are things that we can um yeah it might help you in your industries so what I'll do is I'll paste these in these links will take you out and let me just show you a little bit so if I go to the media capability map for example this is going to take you to some content and um and it's going to give you some of those Maps like Jason showed so if you guys want you can click through some of these and see if there's things that you could start using right away so State local and Regional some of these two you have to look into are these really business capabilities so to me I see some of these and and they're a mixture of like value streams and business capabilities so it's more of an organizational representation of the capabilities we need than than a business architecture and so you can look at some of these in like and like I said see if they're useful they're not all actual business capabilities they call them State local Regional government capability map so that's why we're developing more of an architectural picture of these so you can go through them like I said and see if there are things all the stuff that is publicly marked as public I I linked together and gave you all that here so you can look at it okay so that link and and I will share that in the uh in the meeting when I put the recording out there all these links will be shared and uh inside of the deck and then I don't know if I can share them I don't think I can share them right now in Zoom or else I would so you guys didn't have to wait can you just paste them in the chat let me see I think it might just paste the text if I do that yeah so what I'll do is I'll put paste one in the chat and then from one you can get to any of them so let me do that for now and then so I'll just paste this one in there and then you can use the drop down and get to the other ones from here okay so this way you don't have to wait for the deck to come out because you guys were on you actually showed up for the call instead of waiting for the recording all right so that's a little bit of the demo um I don't know how soon we'll be able to get you like update sets that you can bring in but at the very least if you do have the guild stuff I can help you format the data so get in touch with me if you're on the government side and then any of the EAS that were on that team will be able to kind of get you to a good place with these depending on what you're looking to do all right we've got about 15 minutes left so that's perfect I think I have um on two more poll questions okay so all these things now we got a little bit of a taste from from Jason and I on on some of the things we're doing what are you doing inside of your organization today so it'd be interesting just to see like we don't get to talk to the people all the time that are doing the value streams or the doing business capability to find okay it looks like we got a that's the other part too that I would um I have digital taxonomies in there which is something we didn't talk about but that is something that I would like to put or add to the architecture it wasn't something we're asked for but what is the right structure for these digital portfolios so a lot of what we've been talking about is if you use what they use for it for it it's the top level portfolios are you have customer facing so like for hire for Tina to be students right or for me it would be constituents in the government space or customers but that external facing bucket of services and products and applications and then you have the employee facing ones then you have shared services and then you have this bucket called Factory the digital Factory so if you look at those those four buckets of top level portfolios but what's the next level down from there is there another level or do we just go right into services so when I talk about digital taxonomies there's a lot of interest in getting that right from from at least my customers in higher ed and then government okay so I'll share that on here and this will be useful yeah to all the people working on our project so we thank you for that data the um it looks like a pretty even mapping too so strategy Maps so it looks like uh capabilities and taxonomies are number one and not as many people doing value streams yet and value streams are new to the platform I think it's about three months in uh so I actually added a cut a couple custom columns to that like there wasn't even a description on the value stream yet so I added a description on that but uh maybe we'll have more people using them once we get in there and start to do some of those things like Sarah talked about okay you know what's the process for using those and the defining of a new service or the improving of an existing service all right so let's go ahead and bring it all together here and talk a little bit about the csdn so I I get all these different pictures of the cscm I don't know where I got this one from but the one I added on down here is uh I added value streams on the bottom so this is probably going to end up in the foundation area on the down here and um I was kind of wondering the value streams sit here where the value streams sit here and I had a brief conversation with Scott I'm pretty sure it's going to end up down here in foundations just like business processes because what value streams do is they use as the value stream stages they use business processes and then you can have a business process can have other processes right you can tear it down and into sub processes and I think Sarah what you were doing probably was relating business capabilities to business processes right are we are we doing right to the value streams okay I think um the business processes is the right mapping because usually these are going to be like I said representing the value stream stages and then as was mentioned earlier what we've started to do is take some of those things from the um from The Guild and map those in so the stakeholder ones I haven't done yet but if somebody's done that or any other these other ones if you've done them the strategies they're not actually defined in the reference architectures the strategies would be more of what came out of my strategy map right so there'd be pieces to put those into SPM as well right where you can define those top level goals so I was did I talk over somebody okay okay so this is what we're this is what I'm looking to do for the government side uh some people may be looking at the same thing like how do we populate these in either a Dev instance or in a prod instance to get started with the uh the business architecture um you saw some of that with the capabilities and the value streams of their first two I did [Music] and there may be Jason are you guys any is anybody else doing this with apqc or any of that for the other verticals you know about yeah I'm not I'm not certain I haven't heard that so I don't know if they are um I I mean with uh with the team though uh next week so I'll I'll be able to bring that up but yeah I'm not sure okay yeah from the EA team it's going to be hard for us to support this long term so the uh my idea behind it was we could kind of get it going and then either have it be Community maintained or ideally product maintained so the product managers could somehow because it would help us you know with our people that take care of this part of our our data classes right and the products that are up around the design domain who definitely help in that area right all right um I put this on here too so if you are hearing about this business architecture Guild or you want to learn more about business architecture there is some training coming up that a few of us are involved in so I'm going to be on this training too and Bill was on a couple weeks ago bill spoke so I'll put this in here um if if anybody wants to attend that training I'll drop that in the chat as well there is a charge for it because this isn't the guild itself but it's a group that trains on it so that'll be a that'll be good training if you could make it and I do know there are a couple of uh of our customers in there too so it'll be good to have the EAS on and hearing the customer side so they talk about the whole bizbox which is the the model that brings all those pieces together that picture I just showed you that's basically what they're going to train on in the foundations they're going to give us uh basically uh a high level overview of this whole model and how it's used as a business uh reference okay then the last thing I have here talk a little bit uh about content planning okay we will so the um the next meeting we're going to switch gears a little bit and talk about a system of Engagement that's been coming up quite a bit so with mobile applications it's a lot of people want to make their services available through there now if you're doing a mobile application for like an agent or an employee service now has mobile applications for those you can use now once you go outside and you want to make servicenow services available to your customers or to your citizens or your patients or your students how do you do that and we're going to have Jim and Todd on from a company called new rocket to talk about how they did that for a couple of universities and um and local governments but this is native mobile app development that's interfacing with servicenow services and content knowledge content so it's a very specific way to approach it and um and they have a really good beat on on how to do that and then how the experience changes so the experience of walking through a native mobile app versus a web app is is very different right you're you're doing a lot of compensation for things like screen size and and the different actions that are on a mobile device so it'll be really good to hear from them on our next meeting a little bit of a switch from business architecture right but that's the idea is to look at the whole area of digital Service delivery um after that meeting Martin has he's another person on our team he's one of the ones on one of those committees that I showed you earlier but he's an Enterprise architect and he had a really good Round Table where he uh interviewed a CEO i o that he works with and he's been through digital transformation with a couple companies now and a key part of that digital transformation for him was the servicenow platform she's going to come in here and talk about what worked and just as importantly what didn't work right in this group we want to know stuff that isn't working it's not a sales channel to come in and talk about everything that's working perfectly but come in here and see you know where we're not as mature as we need to be so we're going to hear both sides of what worked and didn't work when using the platform the other one I have on on six eight so I had bill from the business architecture Guild I had him speak a few weeks ago and I messed up the recording so we do not this is the first Digital Services Forum meeting in the last year and a half where we don't actually have a recording of that and I know a lot of you reached out to ask for the recording so what I what I'm going to do here on six eight I haven't asked bill yet but I'm going to ask Bill to come in and see if we can rerun that section um and yeah anyway those of you on that call there's about 150 people on that call and what I did is I sent them the wrong link and everybody ended up logging in as me so hopefully we can clean that up and get that recording out there because I've I've been asked for this recording more than of course the one I messed up I've been asked for more than any other one okay and then this part is coming up a lot with customers when they customers are asking us about governance and and what we're learning is right there's there's different phases of governance and we're going to talk about that in this meeting there's governance when you talk about strategic planning and what are the Committees the strategy governance for the technical government so there's that people part how do I arrange the people to do that that front-end planning and then there's that other part of governance too where as these things get executed what is actually the governance around releasing code and you know I've had somebody tell me well I they turned this thing on and they didn't test right so I had 10 000 emails get flooded out to all my people right so how do you do that in a smart way especially when you're saying hey we're releasing and we're all on the same scope right because we're on one particular part of servicenow but there's six people dropping things into that scope so how do I organize that so we're going to try to do is reach out to people and if you're one of those people that has a really good handle on that and you've actually been through that process on how do we do really solid release governance and you'd like to speak on that call we we don't have a customer speaker yet we have a couple people from servicenow we could bring in from our devops teams uh you know people that understand that domain really well and maybe even through some of our from our impact team but we do not have somebody that says hey I tried this it didn't work I tried this it did work so if you if anybody can either chime in on chat or or come in um drop me an email and help on that that'd be greatly appreciated all right and we're going to end with uh one more Paul and this is just instead of putting it in chat we put in a question this time but if there are any topics that you'd like to hear more about on this you kind of know the direction we go in It's All Digital Service delivery so it's not it's the whole platform so if there are new topics in there that you could you can drop in that we we aren't covering uh then yeah please let us know otherwise what we're doing we're out in the field there's about I think 30 of us on the EA team we're all out in the field and we're hearing stories and learning from customers and we're we're bringing back what we're learning and trying to share that with you but if you have specific things that we aren't seeing the only way for us to learn about them is by asking you so if you can drop those in that'd be great any other questions before we we wrap up oh we're a minute over already so I'll end it there thanks very much everybody for your time and hopefully this was useful to you
