I think we can get started shall we James yeah let's do that I was just looking at all all the different places that everybody's yeah exactly that's great right then well hello everybody and welcome to our session modeling architecture diagrams on application portfolio management with designer my name is James Ramsey I'm a senior principal product manager at servicenow specializing in our strategic portfolio management and application portfolio Management Solutions I've been with service now seven years now and through that time I've worked with organizations looking at how they streamline their end-to-end changing Innovation processes and how they utilize application portfolio Management in order to optimize and modernize their application portfolios I'm joined today by Clydes eisenbecker and all my partner insby nice to meet you all uh been working with James for a couple of years while we go back four or five years I think James and it gets a little bit slippery as we get older um one of the co-founders of inspired we are one of the technology partners of service now um we specialize in creating applications which is really um embedded like plugins on the servicenow platform my own background prior to creating Inspire together with my business partner carriers but I'm back in 15. I used to work for another very last year event on the market who got procured back in 15 as a practice director and before that both car and me are actually all corporate guys so we haven't always been on the dark side as soft preventers we have actually been living in the organizations as well for 13 and 14 years my own background I came up through the I.T side was a supporter I.T manager for God seven eight years for Denmark Norway in baltics then moved to headquarter and went into Enterprise architecture where I also met my business partner career um and now we're here eight years down the road with service now and looking forward to presenting you the latest stuff we can do here together with APM thanks loves so just a word of housekeeping before we get started we've got a lot of content with inside the session but we have saved time at the end to do a q a session so if you've got any questions as we go through please use the Q a button at the bottom of the screen and we'll come and review the questions at the end of the presentation this presentation is going to be recorded and will get shared out on the servicenow community so you can go back and look at it and also about today is all in the current releases of our respective Solutions so as I mentioned we've got packed agenda we're going to start out by looking at what the challenge is and what what we're seeing in terms of what organizations are looking for in in terms of modernizing their application instead we then look at a quick overview of what application portfolio management is blouse will then provide an overview of designer and then we'll look through an interactive demonstration That clouds will provide of how designer Works alongside application portfolio management and then we'll finish up with the Q a session so just to frame the discussion we're going to obviously be looking at how we can Drive Enterprise Architects to be able to create their their architecture diagrams as part of their transformation processes and really what we're seeing a lot of them having a lot of discussions around with organizations is how they can perform that exercise of modernizing their application state really everybody is trans transforming and as part of that transformation there's an increased Focus now of ensuring that the underlying technology estate is actually supporting the business and the the new business models so as an exercise we're seeing customers asking us how they can we can help them modernize it estate help them make decisions on where to invest where to decommission where to migrate and as part of that process we're ultimately looking to reduce the associated cost with our technology estate and also lower the overall technology risk to the business now that transformation is going to involve organization moving from there to be that that current as if architecture State moving to there to be State and and mapping those various uh transition States part of that exercise is obviously they're holding on the Enterprise architect to actually model what those transition steps will look like and that will take the form of diagrams and architecture blueprints on how they're going to move forward so to start the session off we're going to have a poll question and on this poll question we're quite simply going to ask how are you creating your architecture diagrams today so this is a single Choice question so if you can select another four options Vizio PowerPoint and Enterprise architecture too or other and while you're doing that I'm going to ask Klaus based on your experience what are you expecting to see as the answer to this particular poll question I think what we are actually very surprised about is how many people are still really working with diagrams which is which is static um or static information I mean it's one of the things even if I go eight years back when when we started up and looking round four and and really discovered service now this was this was back in 2015 James when service now had just belonged launched the service now store and we immediately had that vision and said whoa imagine if we could really build you know this modeling and diagramming capability together with the architecture capability but on a platform where you really are already interconnected with everything that's kind of the vision we had when we created this um I have to say I I think the market has changed it is improving um but I think we will still find a lot of people who are still using single tools like Visio or even other areas or even PowerPoint um then we would expect really going up to you know moving towards Enterprise architecture source but let's see It'll be very interesting let's see yes so can we can we show the results please right so interestingly there we see the highest the highest view we're looking at is uh 49 from a visual standpoint yeah we are we are seeing some utilization in Enterprise architecture Enterprise architecture tooling but also then there's um 20 20 utilizing all the other types of capability in order to provide those diagrams it's right so anything you'd like to say on that on on those results gloves no I think it's interesting because we we did uphold guys uh as well um well our great marketing didn't pull exactly on that question with over 2 000 people that responded on that uh as you can see here and in comparison I mean we are just a small group here of what are we 50 people um it's actually very similar so what you can see here is you know it's it's 38 we had 49 for the Visio we have 37 for the Enterprise architecture um you guys had 24 so I think the the the story is still the same but it kind of relates exactly James to why we did what we did and why I think that the collaboration we have between the servicenow APM and designer just makes sense because guys we are in a in a time in 2023 where we have to ask ourselves can we really still afford to really do models and diagrams and understanding what we have and suggestions for change on static data right it's really a risk guys honestly when you don't have that direct link to the live data you can go and and present basically your results and remember diagrams and models we use that to make better decisions so that means of course the better data we have the more accurately we can make decisions for the company and moving forward and we are I think more and more getting to a stage where it becomes more more dangerous not to use the live data Ergo what I think why we exactly did this collaboration with service now because servicenow is a fantastic platform it is in many organizations a strategic Central platform that collects data so it just it's just common sense to really put your modeling and diagramming capability there you know and not even talking about your architecture assessment that you're doing as well like you can do with the APM so but I'm pleased to say as an into that James what I can see is we are moving in the right direction not not as fast as I would like but I'm not necessarily a particularly patient person um but it is going in the right direction which is cool yeah I think my take on on the analysis we're looking at here is is that that 50 is still from a you know utilizing sort of static as they're creating those tools so what we're going to look at in um this session now is how how we make that transition so the starting point I'm just going to give a brief introduction to application portfolio management um and so because really this is providing that fundamental foundation on which you can build on to this this Dynamic modeling capability so application portfolio management is the servicenow capabilities it's on the surface now platform and it's designed to help organizations manage and optimize their business application inventory but I like to think of application portfolio management as the decision engine to enable organizations to make decisions on how they're going to modernize how the Uno transform how they're going to migrate or drag wider adoption of the cloud now in order to help decision making process think about application portfolio management providing you four lenders into the technology estate the first lender at the center is the application lens this is giving you visibility into that centralized application repository bringing all that information around applications into one place that in itself has proved in in the past to be a challenge for organizations with it being managed across different different sales but what we're doing here is bringing that all together the business lens then looks at how our applications are then underpinning and driving business strategy how they're helping to support our business capabilities the technology lens looks at it from a risk perspective and what we're really looking here is looking at our application estate and what the the potential risks are of those applications from them being run on software or Hardware going end of support going end of life and also helping us identify where we've got technical debt and then the information lens looks at our important information assets so if I'm a bank for example I've got my banking app so one of my information assets may be my customer credit card details or something like that through the information portfolio we can understand where those information assets are being managed so when we're looking at potentially addressing vulnerabilities or security alerts we can understand what the impact of those votes can be based on knowing where information is being managed or being used well the important difference of an application portfolio management standpoint is because it's there in this on the servicenow platform and because it's integral to the cmdb and supporting the common Services data model application portfolio management is able to utilize data from right away across the platform to help drive better and more informed decisions now if we look at how APM can help accelerate application modernization we can look at three use cases that start in use case around analysis of your application portfolio is typically geared towards organizations who are looking to rationalize their applications or looking to migrate from on-premise data centers and take applications to to the cloud now part of that use case what we're doing is as I've already mentioned we're going to establish that Central application inventory bring everything into one place we're then going to apply data-driven application indicators to measure performance understand business value um most of the application understand the impact of incident and problems also functional fit all of those sorts of things and we'll also introduce what we call a cloud migration scorecard where we can assess the cloud Readiness of those applications that all feeds into our application portfolio and utilizing those indicators and those that scoring mechanism we can make Dynamic decisions on what we're going to do where we're going to invest where we're going to decommission where we're going to sustain the next use case is how we align that application portfolio to business strategy now we do that by establishing our business capability maps and it's aligning our applications to the various capabilities that they're providing then through capability planning we're able then to identify where we've got technology gaps or potentially where we've got redundancy multiple multiple applications supporting a particular capability so through capability planning we can identify the decision we need to make in terms of addressing the gaps and also removing redundancy and the final use case is how we're helping organizations reduce the cost and risk of around their technology and also enforce those technology standards to eliminate technical debt and we do this through to through two capabilities first of all the technology reference model which is going to set the guard rails of what software we should be using and are approved to use throughout the organization and also technology portfolio management which will proactively enable us to analyze our application portfolio to identify where applications and services are potentially at risk from that underlying software and Hardware and that's all powerful forms of analysis that we can perform with inside application portfolio management itself would like only gets stronger when we think about what we can do by connecting application portfolio management to The Wider servicenow platform and I like to think application portfolio management is is always the best beta to get the story across across service now because what in fact we're allowing it to be thinking in in the in the Realms of IIT operations management utilizing Discovery and service mapping that helps us accelerate the ability for organizations to pull together that Central application inventory if we bring anti-asset management into the mix we're going to be leveraging life cycle data around hardware and software software products and versions leading that into our technology reference model to help us we find our software guard rails and also allowing technology portfolio management to take use of that wealth of information in order to calculate the associated risks against our applications and then if you look at it from a risk perspective we're actually then helping the Risk Managers better assess the risk position of our business applications helping them understand what policies and controls that need to be put in place against those applications and then measure the attestation against those controls so we can until continually look at the compliance associated with our business applications and in fact what we're doing there is ensuring that operation resiliency of the business applications but back to that thread in terms of application portfolio management being the decision engine you think of those use cases coming out of that are actions that we need to take those actions can by leveraging strategic portfolio management we can look how we can put them in place and how we can Implement them so those actions become demands in the demand pipeline that we can prioritize and we can plan on a roadmap that we're looking to deliver and then using the roadmapping capabilities the Enterprise Architects are then able to communicate what the overall plans are as they look into transition from as is to 2B and also provide the business with an overall view of actually how they're progressing into living that roadmap ultimately rolling up to the goals and targets and measurements of success in in delivering that transition so application portfolio management is the Hub the decision engine in terms of how we drive that greater transition transition ability on the platform application portfolio management has got a strong roadmap and just to um give an example of that if you think about our last two releases or previous release Tokyo and I'll currently Utah we've delivered lots of great new capability in the inside application portfolio management including the new Enterprise architecture workspace one place for an Enterprise architecture but sorry for an Enterprise architect see the insights across their Technologies estate identify the things they need to focus on and actually drive the activities in order to resolve them and also providing them a One-Stop shop where they can see all of the alerts and all the analysis like for example identify where my business applications I've got technical debt I can quickly drill down and find that out we introduced the technology reference model as we've already mentioned that ability to set the guard guard rails about software and Hardware what software we're able to use and then from that allow us to identify where we've got technical debt architectural assets enabling Enterprise Architects the capture their architectural documentation and Associate it with with business applications so maybe pattern blueprints other architecture documentation we can all bring that all together and we've also introduced digital integration management the ability to understand the relationships between different applications and also understand the interface between them so we can model what those Integrations are and understand the interface and finally that cloud migration assessment the ability to quickly establish the cloud redness of your business application so you can understand what we should be migrating and what where we should be migrating them in so that was a sort of a Whistle Stop tool in terms of what application portfolio management is now that's the foundation it's going to provide you with that wealth of information that will help Architects as they're they're planning their transitions what we're now going to focus on and what Klaus is going to take you through is how designer sits with application portfolio management is able to utilize that wealth of information in order to help Architects better to create their diagrams sort of close I'm going to hand over to unit brilliant excellent thank you James okay so hopefully you can see my screen here um so um designer so first of all why didn't we come up with it so back in a little bit of history on on designer back in the days of 15 and 16 was when we actually started up and created the first Enterprise architecture enhancement for the service now platform we came very quickly though to the point where you need of course as an architect to go out and create your current state and your uh your future State your different transition States and so on because that's basically what we do so we said why don't we create that as well on the search now platform why do I need to use something separately that I can't you know I need to integrate to the data where I have now a platform here from service now why am I not just doing that and that's exactly what we went out and and did so designer was launched I believe back in 2017 in the first version um and it had a little bit of an interesting story because originally you know people will come up to me and say things like okay Klaus uh we're just starting off with service now this is awesome but don't I need to have a certain amount of data already in this service now platform in order to justify it to have a model or a diagramming tool and I I have to admit in the very beginning I said yeah that kind of makes sense because otherwise I'll to do it and then I was at a knowledge event one of the knowledge events we went Jameson and I had a few people that came over they're already used to sign and said no no Klaus that's not wrong look we we just launched service now we're very happy we're in the very beginning and we're using designer already actively and I said uh just out of curiosity why are you doing that they said look what's so important when you have a platform like servicenow and you're using all the different areas of course it's important the data you have but just as important to visualize is what you don't have and that's exactly one of the things you know basic use cases that people use to sign up with with that of course we moved on people are using it for for Enterprise architecture we're using it for you know when we do things like applications relations to capabilities as you can do in the APM product but we also very quickly found out that really the designer is so generic that we had a lot of new um profiles that came up Suddenly people come up and say well why we're not doing our process maps and service now yeah that that's a good idea we haven't actually thought of that well you have the designer and I want to have my process flows in there and of course I want to combine that with the real-time data because I want to roll up my risk or I want to have my control factors already actively showing up live on the diagram which when you think about it just makes sense so it's a little bit this transitioning from just being on diagrams where you're building something hoping you're building it as reality is because you you don't actually know unless you're spending a lot of time researching whether the data is still there now you have a fantastic platform like service now why not just utilize that and include that live data you get in with your discoveries and other activities you're doing on service now and use that directly as part of your modeling so now it's exactly the vision we had that's how we started up and I'm very proud to say today is really used in a lot of different areas like APM is just I mean this is it I would say James is one of those things we will just say do yeah because it's so obvious that of course you need to have a modeling and diagramming capability together with APM and why it fits so well together and that's exactly one of the things that we will show here as you can see on the left hand side of course there's a a lot of different areas where you can really use the designer and what's important to understand with designer is designer is embedded and that basically means it runs and are literally part of your servicenow platform there is no integration there is no Thin Client fit clients anything like that if you have the service not platform it's basically a plugin so with that of course we can do a lot of different things so there are different examples here when we do Gap analysis process swim Lane station lineage really we can leverage any data that you have on service now standard tables uh APM yeah DRC anything that you basically use there as when it's part of the standard service now tables if it's CI elements your reference Fields many too many tables and so on we can use that and visualize it so one of the things of course that we went in and specialized in become because we come from an architecture background one of the things that um you you also need to do of course with your apms you need to talk about and show current states you need to store different transition state examples you need to have examples of decision making and really implementing as well future States maybe you have new elements maybe you have to see IMS relationships and so on you can commit that and of course we can use this fantastic for impact analysis because we can immediately visualize any kind of relationships you have right even out in multiple UPS you know when we want to see the impact of maybe something's not acting as it should or wherever it is that your specific use cases or your focuses so that's what we do here's an example of one diagram from course designer um but I think in this case James let's jump directly into the live system it's always interesting to do live system presentations right doing webinars there's a reason you have something called a presentation bug yeah I'm sure James knows that as well it's basically box that only shows up when you present all right guys what we're looking at here you can see of course we are in standard service now we have your application menu over here on the left with all the different areas that is activated for your specific profile in this case as you can see designers basically just installed from the servicenow application store it shows up on the application menu over here and when you click the designer it basically just loads up and shows this I know it looks different do not be kidded you are still embedded on the same service not platform as we have here shape libraries on the left hand side we have a hundred and never remember it always changes 139 now differentiate libraries that really span from everything from akime to Amazon web services we have business Process Management for the process flows here version 2.0 sewer bootstrapping is here Cisco library and so on and it's so easy guys really you you decide just which of these libraries you want to have and you just change it from active uh from false to true and when you do that and basically load it up then that specific Library shows up in the designer so these are the libraries you have on the left hand side standard stuff guys you will find that in most modeling tools anyway of course we have the same and then you can see you can just open up and you can just take some shapes here and we take of course the happy face because you should always have to help your face put that in you can link that together give it different colors give it names whatever you want to do you know standard stuff that you can really do with shapes as you expect and besides of that you know we have special things like containers and we got swim Lanes here if you want to do your process flow so take your containers here and just drag whatever whatever thank you you have done just drag it in there close the container and then you can move it about and so on and so on all of these things are there and of course we support things like templates Global templates like headers etc etc standard stuff guys now let's look at where it gets really really interesting here that's when we really go on ahead and look on the right hand side on the right hand side we have What's called the repository browser the reposits from each browser is where you can configure and access any table of servicenow any table standard table custom table GSE module APN module whatever you purchase you can just configure and access that and when you do that for instance when we go into the business application here yeah you can see it then loads I have 143 different business applications I can just pick one drag it onto the canvas now this is a different kind of object than the other object we had before this is a standard shape can't do much with that of course we can relate it with URLs and so on but you will notice the difference when I click this one you will see certainly I have additional icons availability why do I have that that's because this actually represents a live CI element directly on the platform and you can see what I did there I just took the element and drilled straight into the APM phone view here of the of the application itself the bamper weights on so that's basically what I have represented here and of course with that I can go ahead and do standard stuff like I can load all the immediate relationships I have here let me just see that uh yeah now I have capabilities and other applications is related to I can even go in and build things like references so if you have reference Fields this is another way that we can visualize it then this in this case I want to see a department the I.T application owner as well I can just load that and then you can see it's added down here all of this is live data so I can literally just click any of them and then it will just drill in and show me the department form View and everything else that I have here this works across the board as I said with anything that you have in there now additionally we use this of course to do things like analysis impact analysis how things are interconnected and so on so besides with just loading that I could as well run a hop functionality here the Hub functionality is when we're basically asking the designer load the relationships neighbor load the relationships neighbor neighbor or neighbor neighbor neighbor neighbor and so on right you can basically do a query and you can see when I'm just loading two relationships out I can even restrict it if I have only certain relationships or certain tables that I want to see or even use filters if I am just interested in a specific business unit items and so on I can do that for this example here I would just ask it to load the two relationships out and you can see here in a couple of seconds very quickly I can now literally see everything that is interconnected around this specific object now what do I do with that well if we do further analysis what we can also do here guys is we can say yeah that's cool clouds but I want to see the criticality of those applications where this is related so you can put in as well what we call indicators and indicators are basically a way how you can color objects based on the Optics underlying data again remember here we are connected live to anything on that object it is literally an object representation we have so I can go in here and say for my table yeah put a coloring on any application that we're looking at here and here you can see all the different uh values basically all the different information I have of a business application this is configurable again you can do this on any field of meci element even ranges are supported when you want to have like capex Opex for cost information and so on we can specify that in this case I would just select the criticality here I say I want to see it as a background let me just run that you can see it immediately goes and pulls the data and at the bottom left here it then gives me my color Legend so I can see what the colors represent so live data relationships reference Fields color basically by whatever information you have on the specific objects is something that we support so what else do we do well if we look at things like hierarchical structures so let me again for the sake of the argument go into the business application table here business capability tables like business process tables the servicenow location table and so on are what we call hierarchical tables it has a hierarchy structure this is the classical view that you have from servicenow with the list view which is cool where you can see the levels on what level of the hierarchy each of these perspective elements are right that's good but we can also in the designer go in and say yeah let me show that in a more traditional hierarchy structure how does that actually look so in this case learning loading loading loading come on yeah it's a demo box sorry guys take a little bit of time and yeah my God okay all right in the insert here you can go in and put hierarchical structures as well this is the hierarchy built up there are different ways of different types you could do that compact text only you can auto fit it I think that makes sense or specify if it's vertical or horizontal in this case I'll ask it basically to build it on the business capability table and you can see here now immediately it loads the top level of the business capabilities directly from the business capability table so I will say yes that's cool but as we are talking about application portfolio management here I want as well to see any business application which is providing a capability right that's something that we need to know again remember capabilities are what we do in organizations the processes are the house and the applications is what actually provides the capabilities for our organization so in this case we will say yes show me the applications which are related I can do a lot of different areas again this business units if I wanted to have here and so on in this case I would just say no just give me two levels of the hero key including the business applications oh and by the way for The Coloring make sure of course that the business capabilities are colored according to the value of yeah and then you can see again what has been configured on the capabilities I will just take maturity take as a background color and for the business applications of course let's take criticality as uh I don't know as a rhombus on the right hand side let me just do that press apply and you can see now within a couple of seconds it goes and reads that and immediately creates the hierarchy structure here boom done there we are and you can see when I can zoom out I can see my full two level business capabilities the color Legend down here let me just drag it up on my tablet this is really of course your preference I'm a little bit I don't know maybe I'm a little bit damaged I like my color Legends on the top left that's how we are all right I can just zoom in here get that of course I will put some sort of header on that so let me just take standard header right for that and again here you can see capabilities based on maturity applications by criticality here are the capabilities yeah down here I have some applications and so on this guy's alive data so that means if you're basically saving this every time you load in your business capability map it will update the color based on the change of the underlying data what does that mean Klaus you might say yeah how does it do that we have in the designer as well the possibility to create and save diagrams in what we call the presentation mode presentation modes I like an example here with the payment process I have that one of my colleagues did which is very nice this is a payment process I'm basically looking at here again colored by different values that basically is there for both the applications or the processes and so on these will basically change if the underlying data is changed as well by the way in a presentation view of the designer you can also link different diagrams together so for instance I have a payment sub process down here when I click that I can either go to the phone view or I can go to the sub process like this so you have a possibility to build both a vertical or horizontal structure for your um for your process Maps as as you as you want to have so and of course we got things like you know comments out here we got layer possibilities as well if you have different transition examples you can basically activate that when you have decisions on that you can make comments here you can see my colleague Katia has done that then I've done some comments here so everything that you basically are deciding on the diagram itself is documented and you have that in history when we talk about that as well we can also go in and look at the diagram details this is again all diagrams you're creating are stored on the servicenow platform everything is on the platform nothing is stored outside simply makes your security guys very happy because it's all under the same umbrella again that's what we've done so here you can see here we have all the different diagrams available I can go into the demo diagrams for the designer right I can see all the different diagrams which are done and again of course what I wanted to show you was the approval process which is another thing that we have for diagrams so if you're constructing diagrams you can send it for an approval basically whoever creates it sends it to the other contributors and then it goes to an assessment group and a final committee group this is just the standard process out of the box if you have other processes maybe it's already part of the service now process workflow internet that's something we can adapt and use as well I really came around one thing I can show you as well of course is the last thing is how we actually go ahead and to create things like uh new suggestions for change this is I think relevant of course very relevant when you're working with application portfolio so let me take the example before let me take the same business application we looked at yeah loading loading loading come on thank you endpoints are let me just drag that drag that in and load the immediate relationships that I have here that's done so that's basically what I would call our current state this is currently what we have in service now how everything is interconnected the designer support layer functionality as well for those of you that ever work with photoshops are similar that is basically what layers does for those who haven't just imagine layers are like pieces of paper that you put on top of each other you can basically switch around the papers while you're looking at the same diagram this is what I would call our standard in this case I would just call that my current state yeah current state which I can't spell current state but now I will make another layer all that my suggestion a and in my suggestion a I would basically go ahead and maybe use another application if I have another HR application here uh yeah s-a-p-h-r I can just write that in and say I have an idea for this suggestion here that will migrate from bamboo HR over to sap HR so I just dragged in this is another live element guys it's already in service now but I dragged it in and I can basically now drag a line between them notice what happens to my line as soon as I let go of the mouse you see that it changed colors and suddenly it says has Target so what happened here was the designer actually did a lookup in The servicenow Meta model it's basically the suggested relationship and they can see between two applications is a relationship type code has Target so it converts my line into what we call a future or a suggested relationship over here okay so that's one way you can do that we can make another suggestion suggestion B and they might suggestion B I wouldn't want to have a completely new application let me just search for shape yeah you can see I have all sorts of interesting ones let me pick this one this one here will be my new super HR app yeah don't knock me on the naming I'm bad at names but that's how it is today this is just a shape though it doesn't relate to anything in service now it's just a shape I'm dragging in but what I can do with the shape is I can basically go to the data of the shape and I can tell the designer that this shape actually belongs to the table of the business application and I can even start pre-filling it you know when I ideally you know first of July it's going to be of high criticality it will have around up to 50 users the steward will be uh yeah uh Jacqueline right and so on so you can start filling that out already we have an HR department here I do cool right then I can do that I can apply that so even if this doesn't exist in service now it's just a shape you have told the designer that it's a shape that belongs to the business application table because we're doing that it also does the same thing when I'm dragging a line it again knows that this is a supposed business application and therefore it knows that this is the supposed relationship we should use okay that's cool again benefit guys here that we're working with live data from servicenow and has a direct relation to the meta model there so when we save this diagram and it would just call it bamboo HR replacement diagram yeah and then we go to the details of the diagram itself we could send it through the approval process I showed you before uh in this case I will just show it in presentation mode for my management and say dear managers that you guys by the way at the moment I will turn this off I would say that's currently what we have one suggestion is to go in and you know move everything over to sapphr or move everything into the new super HR app which we can create and maybe my management says that's an awesome idea let's do that Klaus so I'm going to make a comment now on the diagram and say management approved the new super HR app and say comment done now that's saved again date stamped and everything here so we can always see that I will say thank you managers go back to my uh to my office and then I will go down here I will Mark the new super app here including the relationship which I have here yeah and then I can just press the commit to items now you can see when I'm doing that I'm getting it one element is committed one relationship is committed and it now exists in service now and I can see again a presentation bar fantastic so that basically means it now exists in the service now platform we made a suggestion got it approved committed the new element and the new relationship last thing I will show you is when you open up the diagram again diagram always does a comparison to the diagram content with the real-time data service now and if there's a change it will come up and tell me whoa hold on Klaus buddy since your last saves this diagram one element which is the business application called sugar HR app and one relationship has actually been committed and now exist in service now are you interested in Saving another version of that because we support versioning of course now say yes please do that so now that's saved in another version I have a red dotted line and then I can even go to this one here which we just created it I have now a form link I can immediately click it go into APM start filling that out and so on so it is a different way when you visually basically doing transformation right suggesting new elements committing that the same with relationships and so on and with that James just conscious of time I will hand that back to you uh stop sharing thank you all right yeah thank you Clarks that was excellent cool so this share my my desktop and now we're going to look for from a q a perspective so uh one question that we we've we've had um life is can they can designer be used to work across other areas of servicenow in addition to um application portfolio management absolutely you you should really look at the designer as an functional extension of the service now platform it's the same I can see Mark you you raise the question as well around digital integration management and so on basically anything that you are activating and using on the search now platform you can use the design on remember it's a servicenow platform functionality DLC modules yeah we can do that so the entities relations to everything that is depending on and so on DPM right if you're doing the search now PPM module fantastic we can do both you know up to the to the strategies understand the Strategic values of your projects and we can do directly live um impact analysis about the impact that the project does again we're visualizing what you already have in service now which for me is one big spider web of how everything is interconnected so yes James we can absolutely do that okay uh there's a question around changes made um in terms of the data model with regard to digital integration management so in um in the Utah release we introduced two new tables the digital integration table which basically captures the mapping between applications and then we've got the digital interface table which captures the details of the interface and essentially when you create a digital integration I identify the digital interface it will automatically create the relationship between the two applications um right just looking at a couple loads of questions and we also assure business process using reference to underlying servicenow application information such as incidents problems and changes yes that's a very simple question yes we could do that again incidental problems you can relate to anything right if you have a task on incident you can do that and we can roll that up we have rollout functionalities as well right so if you want to see that on your process flow if you have risk on I don't know solution and application which you process is depending on we can even roll it down to the hardware and the software which is what that application is either stored on or what it's part of and if anyone raises an incident or problem on that we can roll that up and show that as well on the process flow okay and one one final question um how would organizations access designer and is there any training available yes so the designer is available in the servicenow store so if you go to the servicenow store it's actually number four it used to be number three but someone I don't know people like free apps apparently so it moved down to number four which is it was just not cool anyway it's then or before you can click it um and you can basically try it out that's a 30-day trial or you can purchase it directly from the store as well training is something that we make available uh we have two types of training on the designer we have an admin training and we have what we call train the trainer admin training is basically for those people that will configure and manage the designer app itself and train the trainers where we train those people that will train you internal users all right so we learned many years the best one to train users are really yourself and so we have that we got training materials everything available there's some contact information later James that we will show for those of you that are interested just you know reach out on that and speak to one of our cool people as well and then we can we can talk in more details on that okay thanks for that gloves so uh just moving on so if to look at it from a um a takeaway's perspective what we looked at today first of all we've looked at from an application portfolio management perspective now that's giving lean those foundations to give you that complete visibility of your application estate bringing all those applications together and then by the use of those data driven indicators that you're able to Define and allowing you to to make decisions around what you want to do on that application portfolio where we're going to invest where we're going to system where we're going to decommission excuse me and then by the introduction of designer onto the servicenow platform we're now taking that Central visibility and those data driven decisions and then leveraging all of that information to enable you enable you then to create graphically and model that data dynamically on the platform so modeling and analyzing your current state and as Cloud showed you the ability to model future State and do impact analysis the core element of all of this it's all that on the service now platform so a little bit I think coming up to the wrap up here James um basically here are uh two QR codes you can read when you look at that one of them will take you to a designer handout that we made available the other one will bring you basically to a book a demo um there is that on the inspire.com home page as well uh so for those of you who have any additional questions um and as you
