foreign let's say we need to compare the related lists of two records in a table quickly now we could open up the first record look at the related list entries and then go back to the list and open up the second record and look at the other related list entries I don't know about you but I don't have a photographic memory and unless the related lists on both those records is really short I'm not likely to remember them and end up opening both those records multiple times or taking screenshots or opening them in separate browser tabs or some other crazy work around well did you know there's a way to see a related list of a record while still in the list View it's called hierarchical lists I'll have a link to the docs page in the description for this video let's take a look at how it works here we are on the sys user table let's say for example we want to see what groups Abraham Lincoln and George Washington have in common so let's do a quick filter for just a Ben George now let's turn on hierarchical lists we use the column header menu to select configure list control down here we check the field labeled hierarchical lists and click update now check out the little twisty triangles next to each row when we click it the system loads one related list in this case it defaulted to roles not what we're after when we click the related list menu here or the label here we can see what other related lists are available and the number of Records in that list we'll choose groups and there they are now let's look at George's groups instantly we see they are both members of U.S president's two group now once we turn on hierarchical lists for a given list of Records anyone can use them on that list however the system records which related list we chose and it Remains the Same for us until we change it to something else because it's stored in our user preferences I hope you find hierarchical lists as handy as I do that's all for this time don't forget if you've got a tip about the platform and app or capability share it with the world and don't forget to use the hashtag servicenowdyk to be part of the community I'll be back soon with another servicenow Dyk thanks for watching [Music]
