The Otterly Owlsome Podcast with Allison and Justin - Episode #007
hi I'm Alice hi I'm Justin and you're listening to the utterly awesome podcast who knows what we'll talk about frustrating person to talk to when he has his airpods in because he just talks over everybody and he doesn't realize we're trying to talk back to him what's your shirt say plant the flag of Oklahoma this is when Baker Mayfield we were playing Ohio State which I don't like Ohio State but at the end of the game when we won he took the OU flag and ran around and like planted the flag in the middle of the field because we beat him it's like we've planned similar colors too and your um your your hair it's tough is fixed I know I got my grays covered yesterday so you and I had her trim it and it's not curly this week's this week's episode your hair I think your hair looks good but it's like you got you you got the beach in the background and everything and yeah yeah yeah we call it Shay Sherry well when I say week so how are you hearing me right now if you're not using the airpods I don't hear it at all I guess I could do that and take off my headphones but I'm just so used to the headphones it's like a security blanket now it's like it's time to be on camera I usually don't calls unless my son is here because I have like I do the noise cancellation when he's here that way if it's dying it needs help you can't you can't someone else is dealing with him if I'm in that kind of call so yeah I am I'm in the middle of uh Utah demo showcase lands and it's just been nuts and it's so funny because David's like he told me this when like this is last year he's like put time on your calendar so you're not having to do that stuff after hours because that's usually when I did it in this year yeah I put the time on my calendar in every single person in this company has tried to book over the time I set aside it's kind of like I've got to get this done like you know you're going to want to schedule demos and stuff and we're not going to have anything ready because you guys just keep trying to take the time yeah no I I used to be a like I would be too nice because I have to put personal blocks on my calendar to just save time to get things done like I did that I'm doing a well I just presented literally just before this a freebie roadmap we did hoping to like help someone expand what they're doing and I had time blocked and people were like oh well can't you just move that I'm like oh yeah I guess I can and like by last week I was like no yeah sorry because what happens if you end up with like back to back to back to back to back and then you're just you're not getting anything done that you've told people you were gonna do and make commitments I am I made another commitment that I'm quickly regretting I'm not going to say any names we said last time and um I said yes I can do this for you and then this week they're like is it done yet we need to buy this date I'm like wait a second I was doing you a favor and now all of a sudden like I've got a deadline over my head and it's like wait a second I didn't sign up for this well the road map because it was free it's like we're Consultants we prioritize billable and so I kept trying to like block my time have it ready there's a tail behind you I know she likes you look at her wagon he's on the phone and he talks really loud so is it a girl dog or boy dog Riley girl out because Riley could be either or no yeah hi Riley she's your name Riley you want a treat yeah do not say this okay sorry I guess it could I was like I've never used the b word with you hers is treat but she she knows I'm not talking she knows now when I'm talking at the wall that's how I that's how I think she thinks about it is like this weird human comes in there and just stares at the wall for eight hours a day and talks to it I'll work out on our patio when it's nice out and we are backyard we have like a it's like coffee though structure yeah like a gazebo and it's built into the patio and so our patio furniture is under it but it's positioned so if you sit it's like an L-shaped like patio furniture and if you sit in the little corner of the L you're in like the perfect Bal throwing position and so we have the little you have the thrower thing and so I yeah and so I have it next to me and she just she will go until she almost passes out it's nuts and we have to be like no you had enough take a break and then she goes and lays in the shade until she's caught her breath and then she's back [Music] she likes the nice spring days when was it crispy there this morning it was here a crispy cold no because it rained like the last two days like heavy rain so it was in the 50s but it's already it it's only a 55. it's only getting up to six yeah it was 34 this morning um hoping it's the last frost tonight's the last for us yeah well so we live 20 minutes from Augusta which is where the Masters is played the master starts Monday or Sunday and so it's about to get really really busy here because a lot of people stay in Aitkin and then just drive over to Augusta or people come here to like eat and then my house is being invaded bye David's friends and so me and Dexter are going to the beach Friday during February we'll be driving to the beach during family feast so wow get off work at noon and then pick him up from school a little early and we always stop at Bucky's because he's obsessed okay so it's a fancy gas station it's like the state fair like like how like how Cracker Barrel was that back in the day no like it's but you'll have to Google Becky's it's very cool but it's truly like the state fair like there's a fudge station and like a barbecue station they have the cleanest bathrooms in the world like I'm not kidding you clean Bargain Barn no no it's like a gas station it's b-u-c-c-e I'm gonna share my screen and there's a little the mascot is like a little beaver and my son is obsessed and so they have seasonal t-shirts who are like all the different it's be used see right there Bucky's be you that one and they have literally people playing this bathroom I'm not even kidding in their humongous so a new one opened in Florence which is the exit we take to go to Myrtle Beach and literally they have merchandise they have they dress like that like a cowboy like very country I guess you could equate it to like a general store because they have like Home Goods they have like my son has like all the seasonal shirts like he has a St Patrick's Day and a Christmas one and so on our way see crazy I like this I like the logo we're gonna stop yeah so my best friend she lives in Oklahoma City her daughter and Dexter are about six months apart and her daughter is like truly obsessed with Bucky's and so anytime I go if it's seasonal I stop and grab a shirt and a bow because she's obsessed with bows and mail them to her and she's always like is it from Bucky and we're like no it's from Alice and so we're stopping to see if they have an Easter shirt and an Easter bow let's listen to Nelly the site is really loud either that or our video is taking a bunch of bandwidth like it's not responding I've never heard of this but it looks awesome is it just a Georgia thing yeah I don't know where I assuming started in Alabama I don't know Dallas we go to the one in Florence right there um I've been to the one in um maybe it's a Texas company then that would make sense or no I've been in the one in Melissa okay it must be a Texas no North Carolina ones well Florence is pretty close though well now I've just learned something new but it looks like a super store on the outside just everything is in there I mean yeah interesting oh wow okay look at the car wash see oh it's already ooh nuts I love nuts but it's very clean people are really nice like so we that's where we stop on our way I mean it's only like a two and a half days with a four-year-old yeah like there's a million gas pumps everything wow huge I've never done the car wash I don't feel like that's necessary probably just like run circles around it and get it a 10 mile run in so so that's on the way to the beach then on Friday thanks yes because we're gonna with a four-year-old I've gotta stop at least once even in three hours because but we we stopped there because he he goes in and he goes shopping and he gets to like pick out a t-shirt or whatever because we don't go enough that it's like constantly going but at least when he's here yeah so I had I don't know if you had Brian was your is he your only sibling I have a half sister that lives in Australia is she the one listening to our podcast because there's somebody in the okay I was like who the world is it's New Zealand or Australia and I was like who's like found us down there yeah yeah she lives um outside Melbourne and it sounds like fun and young and I've never been she's lived there for 20 years what's her name Amy hi Amy thank you for listening from Australia I noticed so willing yeah Willis Evelyn and Wyatt Wyatt and Dexter are two weeks apart Australia is so far away yeah have you been have you visited I've not yet gone in the 20 years I heard it's like an insanely long flight like it's all the flight time I guess added up because there's some stops but it's one of the places I'd like to visit one day Australia yeah well she's please come visit but I'm like I wouldn't get a month if I'm going to Australia because I'd want to go to Sydney I'd want to go to Melbourne I'd want to go over to New Zealand like I would need more than just like a week or two because when she comes to the states she usually spends you know a month or two that she lives down toward the bottom you see where Victoria and Melbourne are she lives all the way down there and she lives in an area called bun and young so you'd have to zoom in even more because it's about an hour outside of she lives by Ballarat so bellarat is like the Metropolis by where she lives they're fun and young right there found it look where she lives there's a BP gas station with a picture wow yeah yeah and when she first moved I was in high school I think and she brought over tim tams which are like the most delicious cookies ever they sell them here now but they're not the same the same so she always brings us some because they're just truly not the same very nice well now I know who are um yes I was going to like I'm not sure um well for everybody listening you know there's there's a system for the podcast distribution and then there's the YouTube Channel slash podcasting feature and I haven't shared any of that with Allison because I wanted to add you as a user in this service I'm using won't let me add to users um so Alice I can see like where we're getting downloads and stuff but um I did notice I was like who the heck found us in Australia there's an MVP I thought it might have been them and um obviously it's not a problem it's your sister half sister yeah yeah she actually messaged me the other day she was like I started listening to your podcast oh okay okay she's like why didn't you tell me I'm sorry it's um yeah I think everybody should have a podcast I will have Riley standing up now she's we call it h wording she's harassing because she wants to go say she looked forward it was a very quick term we use it harassing oh yeah you know I'm like are you harassing and then she gets excited well I think this after this conversation you need to plan a trip to Australia and I might want to tag along yeah I know she's coming to the States this summer so she hasn't so because of covid which most people can relate to that she used to come about every two years or so and she came in 2018 because that's when I was pregnant with Dexter we were both pregnant while she was here and then her next trip would have been you know 2020. and yeah that is when the world stopped so she hadn't been back I saw her a couple months ago um I went to Missouri I think I told you that um yeah because we talked about that she was there too yeah that's why I went is because she was going um her mom we have different we have the same dad her mom lives in Missouri and her mom was having a surgery and so she was coming into town and so I flew in because I hadn't seen her in almost five years so I was like I'll I'll make the short trip over to Missouri like relatively Australia I don't know look what time it is down you see that I know 2 18 a.m I know they're like I think 14 hours well when I was central time I think they were four they're just like but yeah we used to have to like plan our Skypes very strategically because like morning she works she's a she I liked we always joke she's a professional student um she has like a million degrees she just got like her PhD or another Masters I'm not sure but she teaches at a university there or was teaching at a university there but their school system is year round so my nephew he goes like and I always forget how it runs but their school system unlike the states is January to December whereas ours is obvious to May so they're like my nephew was literally like starting he had just started a new school year whenever I saw them in Missouri and I was like wait what you know and she was like oh no our school system is different and then they have like because it's year-round they have like weird breaks they're what's weird to me weird breaks throughout the year and then like a couple extra in the summer but the summer is winter there because it's been south of the Equator yeah my first question was gonna be like my some of my best childhood memories are summertime like being off for that it seemed like it lasted forever it now goes by really fast but back then it was like a whole year in child years yeah interesting so that's crazy and I know when she first moved so she's been with her he's not her husband might as well be they've been together for like almost 25 years um they met she when I was in high school she decided she wanted to just move to Europe and she did and she she moved to Ireland and she worked um anywhere that would hire her essentially because that was back before like visas and I mean you've always needed one but like these weren't as strict as you know they are now and she worked at a bar and a sandwich shop and like just anywhere that would hire her and met Simon who's fantastic and when we first met him I was like will you stay or dingo ate my baby and so we had him like saying all sorts of stuff and then we found out that like they just have different words for things like they call a weed whacker a whiffer sniffer and I was like this is the best thing I've ever heard oh my God yeah I mean they just you know agree I hope nothing bad comes up when I search this string trimmer we we called it weed whackers and weed eaters in Florida the whippers yeah but I it was so funny just to like hear how they speak and we speak and like they call University uni and they call kindergarten Kinder like um there's a what's the guy who hosts um Amazing Race he's kiwi he's from New Zealand but at the accent I just I could listen to it all day long so I know what you mean and my nieces and nephews all have Australian accent Ure she's getting one now and it's really interesting because she didn't grow up there but she's been there for so long that sometimes when she's talking I'm like oh you have a little bit of an accent now I will I'm the same way I'm a chameleon like that I'll pick up on the way people are talking and start to mimic it not not consciously subconsciously um yeah luckily Asheville doesn't have a as country as it probably does probably Aiken's probably worse than Asheville yeah yeah well even in Oklahoma negative way everybody who's listening there's nothing oh yeah the way people talk yeah her yeah the only thing that was funny here um that took me getting used to uh was the you've heard of y'all and that's pretty widespread nowadays but here in the mountains like if you go outside of Asheville they'll say yin's and it's it's an abbreviation of uins and I'll call it yens and you have to adhere it for a while and you're just like Oh you mean y'all yes he's like what the use the Utes will be the end of this so um you had um yeah I'm switching topics sorry do you have anything else to say about Australia oh no I was just gonna laugh about the y'all thing when I have my like when I used to be on projects my favorite customer was in Massachusetts except me talking to a bunch of mouth everything was wicked you know Wicked smart this and so I I would be like I would say y'all and they would laugh at me and they said that they would find out they found out really quick when I was like meeting business because I would be like okay I need you all to do this blah blah blah and they were like when you get upset you're like all y'all need to start dude they were like when you bust out the all y'all we know I think when you use the two hands as well like it's like look at me I'm talking that's all y'all and I didn't realize it and they were the ones that told me because like our first Workshop they were like oh my gosh your voice is so fun I was like thank you but it wasn't the y'alls apparently but all y'all I'm in business yeah they have a fun accent too you know Patrick doesn't have it as much as you think you would it comes out sometimes though because I've heard it a couple times and I'm like get the Boston out of your mouth it's for you Patrick you know who we're talking about yeah he probably tries to remain I'm knowing him he probably tries to keep it neutral like so people don't know where that comes from um the topic I was going to change to before we run out of time was you did your immersion week and um I I've got tons of nice messages and um you have just messages that's all I got um for the record um but did was there anything you walked away with like super excited about that you learn so one thing that I found interesting I guess is the csdm conversations all of the products they're starting to actually show you like how they're aligning the Cs damn so that you're not guessing because like before they're like we have this new framework and we need to follow it and I felt like it was like okay great and one of the benefits is it helps you seamlessly you know work with these other products I'm like yes that sounds great but how and so like all the presentations like actually almost started with like here's how this Maps into and it was like that was a nice change like with the presentations and I mean it's really cool just talking to the people who that's their whole job like and I'm sitting there like I wish I had one whole job but I mean they have some really cool plans coming because everything was Safe Harbor so there were things that you know could obviously change and they also I think I sent you the graph that showed um the progression since they started where it showed like the progression of their logos the progressions of their Acquisitions you can neither confirmed or deny that Allison sent me a picture of that okay yes you sent me that yes very cool because I mean I've been doing this for a really long time and I mean like my very first CIS admin cert I should pull it out of my closet and show you the logo on it like it is like the very first one that I ever got had was like one at least like four logos ago and so it was kind of cool to see that progression and see the companies that they've kind of absorbed over the last couple years based on customer demand so that was the other cool thing is they were all like you know we're listening to our end users we are listening to the community you know we're not just doing things in a silo we do truly listen is this safe for me to share that I would think so I don't see confidential on it anywhere yeah let's see oh yeah so let me see if I can share just that this is what Allison's talking about for those that are watching and not listening well and the other thing that is also not Safe Harbor I didn't know that itsm Pro included devops oh yes yeah we both were kind of like I still want to follow up on that I haven't done what I said I was gonna do but yeah and the guy said it and he was like nobody knows this and we were like everyone was like no we don't find it to share oh well yeah I think I've lost the moment anyways okay well and then oh because this is relevant to me and you and something we were scoping together during the HR discussion someone asked if they were gonna do applicant tracking okay and they were like you know we don't feel like we really have a need because there's so many platforms that that's their sole purpose right and they were like we at servicenow integrate to our recruiting platform and so they they were like you know Safe Harbor we don't have any plans but we see tons of people integrating with it and so like me and someone else in the chat were actually like yeah we're actually building one now and I said for me it was like in the chat I'm like telling this person like you know also I'm not Canadian the Canadian recruiting system is so much different that we were having to scope against things that we as Americans like we had to engage our Canadian counterparts and he was just like I'm Canadian I can tell you this it's very unique and I was like okay and so they were like we're like you know service sounds like you know we have some partners that have pre-built stuff and said they were like but right now it's not on the radar they're the road map yeah yeah that's interesting to comment about the csdm because I I've kind of been similar to you where like I get it from a data model perspective of like why it's important to you know be consistent but I've always been missing like when you get outside of like um applications and application Services how does all this stuff tie together and yeah and honestly as they've migrated each product over it's it's starting to slowly make sense as it comes together that's cool no every presentation they had or at least I couldn't attend all of them I had to miss like two of them and every presentation had you know a piece about csdm and what they were presenting on which I was like haha light bulb so something I noticed that may not have come in your immersion thing but just because of the way I track all the features is a lot of the applications are are getting other quick start tests have you heard of those before yeah they didn't talk about this yeah it's probably it's one of those things that like only your admin probably really cares about um but I've noticed that that was a pretty common feature that's starting to show up everywhere and I was like I I've never even used one but I wonder if I should yeah I like how Riley's like staring outside like I could be up there you didn't even say anything I know that was like I don't want to miss anything it said out you sit out you set out he said I wonder what's out she heard it out that was it geez oh now she's getting down okay oh okay he's harassing how often does she go out it depends on meetings really because yeah it really just depends on me and David have different meetings so depending on who's free who's not I'm sorry I did not mean to create a problem for you there yeah screened or for like a storm door built-in doggy door so she comes and goes out yeah but and it was funny because she's scared of everything and so we had to like you're like look you can walk through it's fine and it actually took like about an hour after she realized oh I can go play in the yard anytime I want like then she was I know I my the dog house we originally had for Haley I had a doggie door on it and she was scared and she wouldn't go through it so I had to literally go through it myself a couple of times to show her like nothing's gonna happen and then I was like my son is a bizarre doggy door like I was thinking like I wonder what the neighbors are thinking right now is Justin's crawling in and out of the doggy door it's okay like I said Dexter likes to use the doggie door I'm like son you're not a dog he's like I'm pretending Mommy and I'm like you do you boo that's probably a lot easier for him I mean yeah yeah well and like he had a playdate a couple weeks ago and so all the kids were using the doggie door and I was like I'm so sorry they were like it's fine they're kids whatever [Music] because we got the extra large one because she's tall and spoiled so now when you say it like that this is where my head goes that door now is just like a germ conduit you know it's eight kids had snacks into it and that's why I like I'm like I'm so sorry your child is walking through our doggy door all right well we've our 30 minutes goes by really fast I know um is there anything you were wanting to talk about that we haven't talked about no no and um we're gonna we have an episode coming out today which is a bit longer than normal so uh we apologize to everybody that has to my sister in Australia when you can't sleep at night yeah that'll be a fun one all right well cool I don't have anything last to say other than happy Utah and um I'm not over Utah now I'm ready for the next one that's all I've done for the past couple weeks oh tell you that I have to release me the why one you told me that's quite say yeah why is yoka Homa comma look at Riley and then X is Xanadu Xanadu I like that one which All I Can Do Is Sing the song and then they haven't told us Z yet but someone in the chat I can't remember who it was made a joke that it should be zeboot because we're starting over and I was like that would be awesome please that would be hilarious I'm sure it'll be like Zurich or something but that's where my headline was Eric yeah that's the only Z Namer Zimbabwe did they say what they're gonna do after Z or this gonna start at a again they didn't say um but I and they just happened to show a slide with x on it because I hadn't seen X or Y I had seen up to W so I was curious what they were gonna do with x yeah Utah was the outlier because it's a state not a city yeah like everything else has been a city there were any others yeah well cool so we'll end on Yokohama sounds like Oklahoma a little bit yeah why is your flag all right well until next time we'll uh we'll see you on the next one we need to sign off thing we don't have a sign off yet you're signed off yeah she's like will you hurry up and F inside off all right we'll see you next time all right all right bye [Music] thank you [Music] foreign [Music] [Music]
