ServiceNow Studio vs App Engine Studio - Utah Improvements

Import · Feb 27, 2023 · video

foreign [Music] it's Justin thank you for watching and welcome to my house that's Justin's house in this video I'm going to reveal something about my PDI that um I kind of hesitated to share but I think I have to and this is after I've been using the Utah release on my PDI for quite a bit now what I've been working through is re um implementing my servicenow release Notes application basically it's something that crawls the release notes lets me review everything categorize them group them and find out what's best for you all in the channel for me to show you and keep track of it all so let me show you how I used to manage an application um specifically one like the servicenow store release notes that I'm looking at I used to use this one right here system applications Studio or what we used to just call Studio and uh that was my go-to and it was my go-to because I could get to everything I needed along the left hand side it kind of breaks down the form it breaks down or the forums the tables uh let me just search here for a service now that way we have some consistency with oh I can't do the star see I'm already messing up my uh here we go servicenow uh release no service now release notes is my newest app I used to do it was a Tokyo release notes before but there you can see along the left hand side I had my data model my forums and UI the access control which for what my purpose is I never really did much with because it's in my PDI I don't really care who has access to it my menus and everything was just right there and then I made a couple videos on I'm a big fan of source control yes I'm not somebody who's using um test Dev and prod so Source control works really great for me and I'm able to share what I do with other people like you so that's why I love it and and I always knew about this other thing called app engine studio so that's this link right here um and I just what wasn't quite working for me I'd hop in there and it was just it was it looked pretty it had everything I needed but in Utah something's different I don't I can't put my finger on it believe me I've gone through all the release notes um if I look at servicenow app engine Studio it talks about preferred data tables new service requests redesign app engine management center more granular controls workspace Builder enhancements tab name changes I'm going to get into all of these in future videos but something's different in here and it could just be me and the way I do things but when I opened up my application and I was redoing it I just found myself staying in here and hopping into things so this is actually not the same one I click open the wrong one so let's go that's my store application that I use to make my SSH episodes plug for servicenow store highlights if you haven't seen that you've got to watch that but here's the same app in app engine studio and did you see what just happened that's what's different that is they there is exactly it just shows you look how fast that was that is not how app engine Studio worked for me before and now it's it's really Speedy it's very responsive let's go back to my service now really so there's my old Tokyo features about my head I'm gonna go to surface now release notes got everything I need I jump right in I was going in here and I was like hey I need to do something in my release note pages and then bam my table showed up and I was able to make changes to it add a field and even adding a field uh was just faster it was like I you know the classic UI you gotta go into the table view or even in studio it opens the classic UI at a bunch of tabs we'll get into that new feature here later but maybe I needed a new field here as I hit add new field and I just put it in here let's just do demo for YouTube I'm not going to save this and I had to enter and then if I wanted to change the value of it I was able to find what I wanted it almost like maybe I wanted a date I only tried again date find the date field that I want and I was just able to kind of move in and out of here quickly how do I I just want to undo that we want to uh delete that I want to save it I do not need to demo for YouTube field on my servicenow release note Pages um but then I was able to hop over to the flows and flow designer real quickly I didn't see any flows in there babbling to pick there so at least no Pages didn't have any but I know I think I have them on the uh well sitemap Parts surely has some flows associated with it but regardless you can just see as I'm moving around everything's happening a lot faster than I was accustomed to and so I want you to hold your breath I'm going to hold my breath so this is my favorites menu and if you've been in service now for any time you always want to see an admin's favorites menu it's very telling very revealing about what's important to them what tools they use and I'm going to do something um that I wasn't expecting to say with the Utah release I am going to remove the old Studio from my Favorites yes that's right everybody I am going to become a fan of app engine Studio it's in my PDI it's working really well for me so there it goes I'm removing from my Favorites the old classic studio and I'm just going to stick with app engine Studio I'm making the switch you know one of the biggest things for me was ease of use do things quickly I've got a lot going on just like everybody else has lots and things going on and I'm really happy with the way this works I can still even use my source control to do what I need to do I'm going to make a lot more videos about app engine Studio there's some new features one of my favorite ones it's going to be about the kind of relationship visual on a table that's going to be big I don't want to show it here because I'll show you a table that doesn't have any relationships knowing my luck but that's it that's it for this video I hope you found this video helpful if you did please like Please Subscribe or share it with somebody who you think might be interested in making the switch from Studio to app engine Studio whether that's in their corporate instance or in their PDI I suggest you give it a try something's different in Utah and it's not in the release notes but I can tell you it's different it's better and I think you should check it out until next time don't forget to always be learning [Music] hello hello [Music]
