Which Visualization? - Platform Analytics Academy - January 11th, 2023

Import · Jan 11, 2023 · video

welcome to platform analytics and analytics Academy excuse me uh today's uh we have people trickling in our uh webinar has changed so if you went to the other one hopefully you got obviously you got that message if you're still here so I'm expecting that numbers are going to kind of gonna uh trickle in a little bit so um but yeah we'll go ahead and get started thank you for joining today we really appreciate it we've had about a month off for the holiday season I hope everyone enjoyed that and now we're back at the grind so uh as usual uh as we always talk about the this is for you so we're trying to bring uh fresh ideas and better understanding practical guidance to some of the things that you're doing inside of service uh now as it relates to platform analytics this is being recorded and it will be out on the Community page uh later on today as well as our YouTube and please utilize the Q a ask um all the questions that you would like I do have other panelists that are on so they'll be able to answer some questions if they can via type if it is something that needs to be brought up at that moment and one of the panelists feel like it'd be better to do it out loud stop and do that and if there's any questions that that come about that maybe are unrelated to the content that we're covering today we'll try as hard as we can to get to those towards uh the end of the presentation so uh Safe Harbor notice um everything that we're talking about today um is already out there but there could definitely be some statements that are made for some future things so please don't you know make any uh buying decisions or whatnot or anything else based off the content that we're giving you today um and we just want to make sure we put that out there for you so again my name is Thomas Davis and I have um my team um with me well not my team but my co-workers with me we have Tara Dan and Adam so again we have some really great people that are on and like I said they can answer questions uh via the Q a so look forward to that so today we wanted to talk about uh what we've titled this one is which visualization and this really is kind of a discussion conversation about have you thought about um the visualization that you chose to use for that particular data uh have you went to something that is your go-to and you just kind of use it for everything even though uh something maybe bring better value to the numbers or the data that you're showing for for something like that so what we wanted to do is we kind of wanted to talk about um a lot or all of the visualizations that are out there this could be a very long call if we really went in in great uh detail and in depth and understanding and things of that sort because everybody also has different opinions on what visualization may work for one thing as opposed to another so a lot of it is uh you know how someone feels over somebody else uh but what we're going to try to do today is just talk to you about um at its very lowest this is what we think is the best visualization for a particular scenario or something like that so again there are caveats to all of this stuff but um we think this is a great place to start so our agenda today is we're going to talk about choosing a report type then uh actually talk about the visualization types how they work and purpose and then we have some useful links and then of course questions but again feel free to ask questions as we go through this so with that so choosing reports so the first thing that you should always do is make sure that you understand the data that you're trying to show and understand what you're trying to get out of it when you do show it so before you choose a visualization it is definitely important to understand what you're trying to visualize so this graph that you see here on the screen is something that has been around for a little bit and and it's very powerful because it can answer those types of questions if you're willing to look at something like this prior to making decisions so you know comparing totals or looking at the makeup of total drives us to one visualization or another are you looking at one data set or many data data points or data sets um you know once you understand the data that you know you've decided on then it's best to you know go into whatever visualization that will work best for that so obviously everybody that's on this call would know all the data that they're trying to render on the screen uh but again you know give it some thought before you just decide to like I said go to that go to Old Faithful that you're very used to creating you're very comfortable to creating that is it really telling the story that is best for that type of data so uh again this is a great graphic that really you know if you look at it and read around it and it can give you some really good Clarity on on perhaps a visualization that maybe you should you can uh use maybe rather than something else or if you just have no idea this is a great place to start uh as well so with that there are a lot of different visualization types so we've kind of grouped them here a little bit so you have score visualizations and these are single scores you know data points that you know maybe it covers a range or maybe it's a single value so these are uh things that are in in my mind are quite heavily used in executive type dashboards because it's a direct number that somebody can uh react to and of course you can do that with a single dial I mean with a single score or a dial um and next you have times here so this is actually looking at information over a period of time so you want to look at by week by month by day by year or anything like that so you know all the different time series uh visualizations that we have is what you would use for that so next we have you know bar visualization type so these this gives you the ability to look at things horizontally or vertically and you can stack those things as well and you know just look at the score and compare them across data Dimensions to um you know maybe something else that you're looking at uh donut and pie visualizations these show relationships so if you have um let's say you know open incidents and you want to see all the different priorities that they're in you know using a pie which is a small amount of um pieces of that pie because you know there's only so many priorities you know maybe that's good and that's that's another thing that you know quite often I'll see people in the community ask for percentages uh donut and Pie visualizations will give you those uh percentages of this many Priority One it's an as a percentage so another really great one there a multi-dimensional visualization type so this is like pivot table so being able to take multiple um you know different rows of or or data and showing that in a table format and you know seeing where those numbers come together and of course we have other visualizations that don't necessarily fit into any of these particular groupings but they're out there as well and there's quite a bit so calendar simple lists and indicator scorecards so uh that at a very high level is how all of them sort of fit into any one of these groups and now we'll kind of talk about some of the ones that fit into that so the first one that we talked about which is uh probably one that is is very popular if not the most popular is our our single score visualization so again this is a single aggregate value that is important to your business so how many open incidents how many close incidents how many resolved incidents how many you know Priority One how many majorants I mean all those different things I may talk about incident a lot but obviously this works for anywhere else in the platform as well incident is probably one of those things that stick out to everybody so here you can see what we're showing you here is the fact that you can do this in performance analytics classic and then you can also do this in platform um analytics workspace so the single score is there for uh both of them so so why would you use a single score so let's kind of talk about this again so single score reports uh display a single value that's key to your business a latest score visualization shows the latest score in both the absolute and percentage uh change between the score and previous score um you can apply breakdowns and filters to a single score as well and single score is also available inside of reporting as well so um just know you know this is a one that is a go-to for a lot probably one that you see quite often uh because it it really draws the eyes and it kind of lets you know something you know directly so a really great one probably one that everybody hears you use this well so the next one we're going to talk about is the dial which again is a score one but this is the one that can kind of show you where you lie uh within a particular number so you know dial visuals is used to display a single value of data in a quantitative Way by using you know color or gauge charts enabled you use or enable users to understand the progress of a kpi you know against some sort of Target or something like this so what we're showing on the screen is you know vendor SLA so 58 of the vendor SLA has been achieved uh and again you're able to see the same thing directly in uh the workspace analytics as well or analytics workspace so it's there as well so this is just another way of seeing a score as opposed to you know just a direct number um and you know uh speedometer which is kind of similar um it doesn't necessarily fall into this but speedometers are one as well that you can use and that is the one that will give you an actual air an arrow to kind of you know sort of like a gas tank or something like that or the speedometer on your car that kind of tells you where you know where you're at uh of something that you're actually trying to achieve so time series there are a few uh different visualizations that are part of Time series and all time series R is an ordered sequence of metrics taken continually over time so like I said before by day by week by month by year Whatever by quarter by seven day I mean whatever that that it is that you choose so the first one that we'll talk about and then you'll see these here in a second is where as well is you know an area an area is it resembles a line visualization the only the only difference is is that it's it's colored in underneath that particular line so you know it can highlight you know relative contribution to a data source or anything like that and to make it a whole so it's just a line graph again that you have filled in and you can also quite often what happens is people will use an area graph and then they'll actually plot a line on it uh as well and you'll see that here in a little bit and next is columns so columns you know uh shows change in data over time by displaying values as proportional vertical columns or horizontal columns whatever that you're gonna uh you know that you use and either either visualize changes in one data source or compared to another data source quite often a lot of times uh columns are stacked so it gives you the ability to you know actually put something on top of another maybe they're not directly related but if you were looking for a whole number to show both of them then you could use a column for that and then of course line which we talked about a minute ago a line is going to show that same information over a period of time and show where you're up where you're down and of course you can select you know trending and forecasting and all those different things whether it be in the analytics Hub or also in the uh you know platform analytics workspace and then you also have a scatter plot which is something that is new that is new inside of platform analytics workspace and uh what a scatter plot does is it takes a y-axis um against time and what in the x-axis and it actually plots different points so you'll see that here in a minute where you can actually see where maybe something is higher than the line or something is lower so it's not meeting or whatever that line represents to you but it's a really powerful one uh probably something that doesn't get used a whole lot but uh definitely look into it if you can a spline chart is really the same thing as a line chart it just Smooths out those lines and you can you know put data points to all of those those different um points on that and then a step chart emphasizes which is very similar to a line uh chart as well it just kind of you know gives you the ability to look at you know a data source between distributed Point discrete points in time and show incremental or large changes of the of the steps or all that so now that that's a high level we talked about that let's let's actually look at those so an area visualization as you can see here is just you know that emphasizes space between a certain value in the excesses on an actual the data points and you know use this color shading to show that so here again I'm doing it in classic and and I'm also doing it in platform analyst workspace and also you know obviously because we're not this is more of a discussion and I know I'm showing you actually adding them to a dashboard we're not getting into sort of the meat of how do I create the indicator Source or indicator any of that stuff uh in the widgets for uh the classic dashboards uh as opposed to you know grabbing an indicator in the platform uh analysis workspace so understand that all of that's already been done and that's not really what this call is about it's more about just showing you that you can take some data and you can add it to the dashboard and here you can see with both of those that I not only have the area but also have a line graph of something else that you know we're able to see directly on there so again if there's multiple things that you want to look at an area visualization uh definitely is powerful there so the next is the column so here you know we're going to take some same information and we're just going to show that data over time and display it as you know vertical bars and what it actually means and you know here you could um you know definitely add additional data on top of this if you chose to but maybe just the actual vertical itself is what you're looking for so here in my example we're looking at incident backlog rows so and this is the past seven days everything that you're going to look at today is going to be from the previous uh or the past seven days so here all it all it is is showing how that looks and you'll see over here in the platform analytics that I'm changing it here to look at seven days and then that's going to look very similar to the same one that is over in the end on the classic side as well so really good that you can do those in both locations locations as well so next here's the the Old Faithful line visualization that is used uh quite often and uh again very similar to the area and again we actually added a line one two the area earlier but this kind of just shows you you know if you think about when you look at the column there that we added if you were to use a line graph for that same thing that line would follow that those same different points one is is uh you know columns that you can click on and a line graph you know obviously you can click on those same data points and then here we're showing some uh which way it's trending so a little bit more powerful things that you can do there so again this is by day kind of telling us where we're trending as well and over here I'm grabbing the actual indicator and it's going to look uh very similar as well once I change the date range here to the past seven days it'll look uh very similar once we add that there so there we go so there's our line graph there so good let me just pause because I know I've been moving fast Dan Tara Adam are there anything that's coming in that we need to answer before I go further yeah there's there's actually a question um that came in and I I'm not sure I understand the question that well so I couldn't answer it um do you plan to reshape report sources as next experience components currently we can pull them in predefined conditions what's the roadmap look like for this specific component um I can talk about next experience components I don't understand though um what this specific component is uh so I I think if I understand um so obviously you can use report sources to build charts off of in in reporting and then I know that in an indicator Source you can use a report source as um the data that you're getting to use inside of an indicator source so that that's one of those things that obviously we know that gives the governance so a lot of people are using the report sources so the the indicator source and the indicator the automated indicator manual whatever form none of that has changed as it relates to platform analytics uh workspace you're still pulling from those same things so if you're using um a report Source inside of your indicator Source that's not going to change for you that'll actually be the same way if if you're talking about when you actually add like for example where this screen is at right now where I'm looking at a source if you're asking is that going to be there along with tables and um indicators um I don't I'm I'm guessing it would but again A Safe Harbor here I don't know exactly and and Adam I don't know if you want to speak to that yeah the so in in the core UI in reporting we had report sources so we had tables and Report sources which were just predefined conditions they're not the same the report and and the report source and a table perform the exact same way the the same thing you just had to select two different things you could name the report Source um but the feedback we've we've had was that it was a little confusing it wasn't really something different so we moved to next experience and in the reporting and some of the screens you've seen here all your report sources that you've defined that you're using in in core UI and Reporting come over into next experience dashboards as predefined conditions and I think that's where they're ending I don't I don't think you're going to see tables report sources indicators um and I it'll cycle through the in the screenshot here pretty soon but underneath when you select tables you'll see your predefined conditions um and I if we have some more feedback or some other suggestions then we certainly take that into account but I believe at this point I don't know of anything on the roadmap to change that yeah and I just promoted Olga so she might have something Olga's here yeah um hi guys um yeah we we're planning to uh if and maybe that the person can just unmute and we can unmute the person to to clarify the question a little bit more we're planning to improve a bit the experience in in the next experience uh how the report sources are managed so it's a bit easier to find them and you can similar hand classic you can save uh easily that the new condition to the report source but at this point there's no other big changes planned so kind of curious about the feedback and if there's something specific you're looking for that we can we can also take into account when we plan our roadmap who was it that asked the question because it kind of disappeared so I don't know it was Anonymous so yeah that'll be a little tough there yeah okay all right well if they if they have if that didn't answer and they have more questions I know that they'll they'll definitely type that in so um yeah and just let me know if we need to stop again um yeah so the next one here that you can see on your screen is the new one which is the scatter uh visualization and um this one again is uh you know the values are displayed on two separate data points evenly distributed along the axis x-axis timeline this chart type doesn't have lines connecting to the data points what I want to do is once this kind of gets to its point where it's loaded I just want to pause this because I think it it kind of went a little fast so so you can actually see it here and we can look at it for a second here wow that was quick oh maybe I'm adding another one to it yeah man here there we go so here what we're showing is an incident backlog as compared to um incidents that have been reassigned so again here it's just plotting points in a graph uh if you had two lines that did the same exact thing then obviously you know you could see those um but here it's just placing you know points on a graph to kind of show you you know where those two you know particular things compare and um you know I and Olga you asked to be a panelist so I might put you on the spot here especially with it being our one of our newest uh uh visualizations out there is there anything that you want to add on this to make it more popular for people to start using it you know one of the other examples uh why this could be helpful for example if you don't collect your data daily writing sometimes have gaps if you would use line chart right and you have the one data point and then you have no data collected for the next days in another you might have like Interruption and if a single data point is not visible for this kind of data that it's uh you collect only like sometimes right that um when there's no data this one is more helpful because your points are always visible as well while for the line chart you have this problem that sometimes you only see it on Hover this is also yeah it kind of fills in right yeah and it's kind of open will be that you use the combination maybe one series is um it's a like a scatter but another one is a standard line then you can display some events right but that's uh with this moment so that's um here is where you guys will bring it and like we can also yeah so probably a better presentation I could have done is possibly making the number of reassigned an actual line and then seeing where the backlog actually you know compares to where that particular line is at so good point yeah I should have did that in the display okay great thank you Olga all right so the next one uh we're showing here is the spline visualization so again this is just a way to you know smooth a specific style for a line or an area chart instead of straight lines the chart use the curved line to connect the data points in the chart um and it does this by just averaging the missing values and a limited set of data points so again this is just a way of uh it's just another way of looking at um a line or an area graph same sort of data and um you know showing that on the screen so it's a little bit cleaner maybe a little bit smoother maybe someone doesn't like all the jaggedness of a line if it is that crazy uh and you could actually you know just use the uh the spline chart to to do that so and again both of these are available in um the performance analytics and also platform analytics workspace so next is a step and again very similar again this is you know gives the ability to show changes in data points over time and uh with horizontal or vertical lines whatever you choose to do and you know it just identifies you know specific data points especially when data remains constant between the time intervals so again you know it is very similar to a line or a spline it just uh again another way of sort of representing that particular data so um yeah so um next we have a horizontal bar chart so bar charts are used to help users compare categorize data so if you were looking at and I think an example here I'm looking at maybe priorities or states and you kind of want to see where those stand up against um the other states and actually you know seeing those particular numbers and inside of a graph or something like that you can use that so you know horizontal bars are used to graph nominal data such as numbers of users in each assignment group or something like that and again I just did a priority here and I don't even think that I needed to do those I could have did it in the platform analytics workspace that is at least looking at all of them and again here you know I'm just naming it but this is just going through the process of it so this may be something that you've used uh or or seen uh but again if you you know need to look at numbers of particular things um and compare them to one another then here you can see like I said there there you have the number of open incidents um By Priority so here we can see 353 so on and so forth so it's just a way of showing that and obviously you can do that uh vertically as well and here we're going to show um I don't think it's the same information but again we're going to show it you know vertical so vertical bars you know uh graph ordinal data so such as numbers of open incidents and different age buckets are like that and um and I believe that's what I actually did here so I looked at the age of the incident so you know again it gives you the ability to compare categorize data um you know and look at that information um you know quickly on the fly so again I think sometimes you'll see these on also an executive dashboards because it's quick quick information that you can see directly there and it you know if you display the data labels then you can see that um as well I don't know that I did that but uh here we're going to look at there we go age and when we apply that and look at it we can see that um once I make it bigger here so here here my two floors sorry let me go back again I just want to make sure we're able to look at that there we go so here we're looking at overdue incidents by an age group so ones that are zero to one day how many we have one to five days and zero six or six to Thirty days so again a way for you to sort of just categorize data for you to look at all right next we have the donut and Pi visualization um I don't know what the the standing rule is and I'm sure that everybody has different opinions I I have always um tried as hard as I can to avoid you know anything more than 10 as it relates to a uh a pie chart I think it's just too much um you know information there too many slices of the pie I've heard different people actually say three or six so again I think it's just what it comes down to what you're actually able to get from the pie or the donut visualization when you look at it would I use a pie if I had 50 pieces I probably wouldn't what do you what are you getting away what are you able to take away from that uh so I think if you can keep something that's less than less than 10 I think that you're probably in a uh a good place and this is a donut here that we're looking at um but again you know make sure that you're not just putting tons of data in those two particular types of visualizations and again it does give you the percentage so it let you know whatever that piece of that pie or donut is what the visualization actually is on that so and this is both available in you know performance analytics and also platform analytics and so if we pause there here you can see so we're looking at um what category or what state incidents are in here and again it gives you the count and it also gives you that and with four here I think it's easy to work with but when you go you know again beyond that tin number which in my mind is actually a little high I would personally stay away from it yeah I think 10 is too much as well yeah I agree anything five or lower by looking at it immediately know exactly what's going on with your situation then you have too many um I want I want to interrupt you really quick because the question came in and I thought it would be good for us to have a discussion about it um our panel her whole panel especially since Olga's here um when would you use platform analytics workspace versus the dashboard viewport on a next experience page is is one recommended versus the other me personally no there's no it really depends on your workflow how you have your environment set up who is engaging in that particular space if you have somebody who is working aggressively with just managing dashboards it might make more sense to use the platform analytics workspace but if you have somebody who's engaged and working in a specific workflow taking cases stuff like that it might make more sense to put visualizations within their workspace but I would I'm very curious to hear especially like Olga Dan um what do you guys say about that also I just want to make sure it's clear that um we are deprecating the dashboard viewport so that itself is not going to be an option going forward anything that was created in the dashboard viewport previously is going to is going to automatically just be part of the we're calling the new technical editor but the the the functionality for dashboard viewport is not there anymore so really with the silver is the question of do I put the and the components or the elements that I create on a workspace in embedded inside of an existing experience or do I put it in the platform analytics and that's where we really get to that question of uh really thinking about who you're who your user is what's the use case for your user if it's a user that is that it really is you intend that they are going to only spend that go into their specific workspace and they will never leave that workspace I would embed it I would put it in their workspace I think it's uh um maybe even a bit different right uh we generally uh it's a question do you want to have dashboards available inside of your specific workspace if yes you put it there and that what will happen any dashboard created in your specific workspace let's say you have agent workspace and you want to have dashboards available there and you can put there only those dashboard specific to the service agent right or specific to HR agent or whatever the Persona is because when you create dashboard in the platform analytic workspace you can select in which workspaces it will be available so if you say Okay I want to have dashboards available in my workspace you can put it there and that's what will give it for your users is that those people who just work in this workspace they will have all the dashboards relevant to them if you set permissions correctly um available right away they don't need to move away from their workspaces so if you see the value just added there and whatever they create their own dashboards they automatically will be available in the workspace where they were created but they also will be always available in the platform analytic workspaces for example if they share it with their manager who mostly would prefer to use platform analytic workspace because you have too many hats they both can access it there so it's pretty much you just expose from where dashboards are available and within your own workspace you can limit the types of dashboard based on the workspace visibility but yeah if you see the value to have dashboards in your workspace just add it there that's that's good they can be both because then dashboards are shared between the workspaces easily together all right since you're talking about that I'm going to call um on you again for this uh um if you look at Paul yellen's question we're building workspaces in UI Builder we are on Tokyo we would like to give the workspace um agency ability to choose and select a menu of dashboards from their workspace dashboard viewport has been discontinued in Tokyo as as Dan just alluded to how do you envision we present a selection of dashboards to our workspace agents we would like to mimic the classic UI experience of a user selectable drop down how would they do that in the next experience uh so when you create a page in your next experience you you will have a template and one of the templates is a dashboard and when you uh created a and it's pretty much similar what dashboard viewport was maybe technically even slightly almost the same just it's a wrapper which allows you to present dashboard so it's now called dashboard template so we have two templates uh One dashboard overview it's similar how dashboard overviewing classic works right it's a cars of the dashboard if you want it you can have it as well we also have the whole like analytics Center you can incorporate right also limited to the to the data of your workspace and you will have a separate dashboard uh the page with based on the Edward template which will be like a viewer of the dashboard right that user can see the dashboards which they have access to and which are available in this specific workspace um and and the workspace visibility you can you can compare to the dashboard groups and classic I would say right where you you would had incident specific dashboards or like HR specific dashboard now because we're working in the workspace you have this the when you create dashboard you uh you will have a visibility you can have the same dashboard visible in multiple workspaces or in one specific workspace and yeah and then it's it will be pretty much the same um I think it will not change if you previously created a page with a dashboard viewport I think it will automatically will show just new dashboard there like 90 sure not 100 it's but it's it's very it will be very similar hope that answers thanks so good yeah that was that was to me that was made sense okay great thank you everyone yeah so um let's kind of keep going here um can we use multiple data sets in a bar chart um visualization are that are they speaking of I guess a question are they talking about platform analytics I'm assuming that it means in the next experience because that is something that we can do now um with reporting yeah so I I don't know if we have future parity for that yet um Olga might know but we will have it at some point I just don't know if it's there yet uh Dan have you tried doing that yet I don't think I missed the question using multiple data sets in a bar chart visualization okay okay great yes as long as you're not trying to do it in pie chart yeah yeah somebody was telling me let's let's do multiple data sets in the pie chart that one we are not ready for that mentally that's way too many pieces of the pie right who wants an apple pie and a you know pumpkin pie together like oh yes okay all right so uh so real quickly I paused both of these so you can actually see the pie uh you can you can do it in both you know performance analytics and also the analytics workspace as well so that is there for you so let me see if I can get this going again you know a lot of people uh uh hate pie I know that there's some folks on uh the team that we worked with previously who absolutely hate the pie but there is a place for it it just needs to be simple simple and very very clear you know like exactly what's going on so that you you look at it and you're like oh shoot or yay but if you can't do that then I agree with the other people don't go towards the pie stay away from the pie or the donut I'm gonna add in that I hate pie just as a certain point of view or something um so I'm more of an ice cream person when it comes down to it but the the report on the report side actually this is actually this is more true I prefer Donuts to pies and the real simple answer is that I'll put the single score in the in the donut yes right I I don't have to have a single score especially if you have a single score and a pie just do a donut with the score in the middle yeah uh agreed no you get a little bit more context more tell us more with one visualization so I agree with that yeah um yeah and the only thing that I would add to that is I think that that pie chart's got a bad name because of what we talked about earlier too many slices right it just gets it gets so diluted and so busy that you can't you know there's no real quick drive to action for you as it relates to the pie chart so but I think if you can you know five or less you might you might be able to get something out of especially if you're looking for those percentages because that's a really quick way for you to get those so yeah and here I will I will eat pie just to be clear like I can tolerate pie but I prefer Donuts gotcha nice we're still talking about charts right what oh okay all right okay good all right so uh then you have the uh let me back that up the semi donut which you you can see have have started here building those that is another one that can okay we'll just play right there we go it can get uh relatively busy if you have too many and in my opinion this one right here may be too busy just because of how much that it has into it so again um does it does it really provide you with you know what you're looking for this one here again maybe maybe too busy but uh if you can have two or three or four pieces of that half donut uh then it may serve you uh really really well so all right I'm not a fan of the half donut before the whole thing exactly I agree with you on that one so next we have the pivot table and um the pivot table is something that is definitely very powerful if you're able to bring the right data together to look at something so you know if you're querying large amounts of data and you're trying to do subtotaling and aggregating numbers and uh you know summarizing data and things like that by categories or um I don't know States or you know different things whatever it may be you know um using a pivot grid may you know really give you some really good information that you can you know have some drive to action to um again you know is it needed for everything probably not can you put too much in it perhaps um but you know it is good information and you can see here and uh we'll pause this one so here you can see that we're looking at you know incidents that uh by their category and also their priority so you know Hardware has you know 37 that are moderate so again really quick way for you to bring two different types of data together and look at the numbers that are generated from both of those collectively and then obviously you know click directly into that and you know have some sort of drive to action uh the uh and and Olga maybe you can help me here because maybe I just didn't set it up but obviously the um the one on the left is is uh more of the heat map type visualization where you're actually giving some colors to it based on the values is that possible in uh the the one to the right Olga and maybe I just didn't set that right so those two things the heat map visualization uh as a heat map itself is coming in in the next release okay so soon in in a few if you weeks the you can do the heat map you can do the conditional colors on the on the pivot yeah when the colors it's similar how in the in the classic reporting you had you can you can do colors of the score itself or the background based on the if if it's more or less than specific value rate that The Logical condition not the heat map not relative colors is a Hitman that one you will do be able to do in Utah uh one thing to call out uh already in Tokyo the new pivot table in the next experience also allows you to to have multiple metrics which is a special example when it's a table because you can have the same table and you can see that the count of incidents and maybe the the average duration and the cost and everything and those will be the columns for example and you don't need to have a field as a column anymore so and the which is awesome right multiple metrics something we've been asking for for in pivot reports it's been asked for a long time and it is there now in in Tokyo ready to use um and I have a question it's more because we'll also support multiple data sources and it will be more levels of uh rows and columns allowed a bit faster performance as well for the uh for the pivot and what it gives you multiple data sources of course for the tables you can put together stuff from the SLA table and from the change and problems all together but also multiple indicators right that's and we'll will we be able to have a pivot that has um indicator data from PA and Report data mix into the source is not there yet in Utah is that no no data sources yet only for the technical dashboards that the developers can achieve it of course because you can for any chart type you um if you're more like technical persona and to uh you will create technical dashboard or the the page like uib page right the standard page for your workspace there you for any chart types you can mix any data sources because we support from Tokyo the great feature for developers to pass data manually so a specific format you just you get data we expose all our apis as a data resources in the UI Builder you can grab data for the uh to the indicator for the table you can join this together and pass to the chart and it will just display combined data or you can do formula or whatever you want to do as a developer it's it's much easier to achieve so so that's in in the inline editor everything is very easy you can't get it wrong but there are some limitations today as we keep going through those but you in in Tokyo with the inline uh with the advanced editor the sky's the limit really a developer can do pretty much anything configuring a uh Advanced dashboard is that fair to say yeah yeah just so if you need to do something you can do it and while we're continuing to make it easier and easier to do in the inline in the in my dashboard and I do recommend we stay in the inline dashboard and the easier interface as much as we can unless we have to go Advanced yeah right there's a lot of advantages from that and I I had one more clarification or question for you so the in in the workspace and the performance analytics workspace and the inline inline editor whether it's PA reporting it's the same what we're seeing in the in the video right now the heat map was only for performance analytics and the pivot was only for reporting before is that is that right there wasn't a recording um but it was called it was in the scorecard you had option for the pivot I don't remember right right so we had that but the heat map lately we're seeing like there wasn't a report heat map is there in the old way um no I don't think there is I think there's so I mean so I think was one of the benefits we get before and I think we'll talk about this a little bit later there were some some some reports you could do some like a pie chart was the same looked the same whether it was reporting or PA a bar chart looked the same but other things were available weren't available as we move into next into next experience um the performance analytics workspace it's available or it's not right right things are gonna are more consistent they're they look the same they're they're consistent to configure just we want to get rid of having to know I I the goal I have is that when you look at a dashboard you look at a widget you can't actually tell if it comes from PA or reporting other than it has history or not I think we've made a lot of progress in there to simplify our day-to-day lives that we don't have to know I can do this on this condition and this and that um just a big report type and it works okay great thank you both Olga and Adam I know we have some other questions that are coming in but we're we're getting to about 10 minutes or 15 minutes left I'll make sure that I get through this content so that's what we got here next so um next is some things that fall under other they don't really fit into a category per se but calendar visualization is one of those things that is available inside of a platform analytics workspace and this is also available in a reporting as well there it is not in NPA and here basically what it's done is it's brought in all the uh the tasks and you know again very simple you know you can click on any one of those different things and a drill drill directly into that information and um you know if it's I think these are used quite often for people that you know or organizations maybe that are trying to see all of that data on one screen at one particular time and can click directly from it so it definitely has a great value and you know you the the users you know can trigger displays of the filter panel and by selecting filter icon you can change you know you can move it around a little bit the way that you want so again this is also available in in reporting and this is just a component that is in servicenow as well and I think it's probably used in some other places as well um next is a simple list visualization so uh I want to see open incidents for maybe just myself or my team you just want to see those as a list you can definitely do that and that's also available in uh reporting one of the ways that we sort of took care of that in the performance analytics is capturing the records when you you know created the indicator and then you know when you're in the analytics Hub you you know see records you would actually be able to see those so um again just a very it's very common just a list that is also available um and again that was that's in reporting as well uh next is indicator scorecard so uh this was just a scorecard in uh performance analytics and and here we call it indicator scorecard but this is a really cool feature that I actually like it actually gives you the ability to look at if you create indicator groups and you have multiple indicators that you want to look at together maybe over a period of time or just to see where their numbers match up based on an indicator or whatever whatever's going on if you create an indicator group and you add those in there you can actually see that so here you can kind of see on the left there that it shows those indicators and it's showing the score and the change and over um oh I went too far what do I keep doing that play the there we go and then pause it pause sorry there we go so again um and there's there is multiple uh things that you can add that you want to look at in any one of these columns here but again if you have a group of indicators that you decided I always want to see these together this is a really great way to uh to accomplish that so um really great there so next these these next visualizations I didn't create in a video or anything for those but I just want to make sure that you know that you're aware of those and because some of these are or all of these are powerful as well so uh stack column visualization I have used this in the past I actually like it especially if the data is relevant to one another and if you can get something out of it if you need to compare the stat column is is really nice uh the spider visualization I don't know that I've ever used it I don't know if Adam Dan or Tara Olga uh has but you know uh through this I can see where there is definitely value to it if you want to look at several indicators and and kind of see where the the scores of those sort of compare uh that that's something that you can use Rel relative compare visualization so if you want to look at you know portions of several indicators as they change over time you can use this and and look at those so again bringing in multiple indicators and seeing the way that they they compare uh pyramid and funnel um those are kind of self-explanatory you see how numbers sort of work their way up from the smallest to the largest and how much uh uh numbers that they have so maybe this is something that you can use instead of the the pi visualization but again if you have 39 of them in there I don't know that you get a whole lot of value so this is probably again another one of those things that if you can keep the numbers low it can probably bring you some uh some value there next Pareto visualization which I absolutely love I don't think that it gets used uh enough and um is basically taking a column with that line and showing you how they all um where they're at as they relate to 100 of those values added together again I think it's a really great chart that uh can really show some great information uh probably a little bit under use it could be used a whole lot more uh columns and totals visualization this is again another one that I really really like and it's basically taking you know all of those different uh categories here we're looking at States I guess and it shows you how each one of those states are on a particular day and then it the line graph is the actual total number of all of those combined so again I think there's some really great value there stat column we kind of talked to this a little bit earlier when we were talking about columns but if you know if you want to follow changes over time and something that is relative something that you know works for you or it's going to actually give you something so taking breakdown elements so here we're looking at you know of those breakdown elements what number of that particular column is for each one of those so um again another great way of looking at data relative compare visualization so here you could take multiple indicators again and you're basically plotting those on a uh a graph as a line it if you have indicators that are closely I think from a number perspective that they can work together here this is looking at um it looks like uh categories so network software I.T Securities or these could also be assignment groups and seeing where they sort of compare over a period of time so um again there's definitely value in that uh the last two that we'll talk about is the tree map visualization which is kind of like a heat map uh it is but I don't really call it that but basically the tree map it's going to create a graphic and it gives uh the squares so for example this has the highest number this is the second highest and you can see the the numbers or the the size of the part in the tree map is based on what the values are so um not the best looking thing in the world I would say but there may be some value that you can that you need to show this particular thing as a much bigger so it stands out to somebody when they're actually looking at it so um again one maybe that's undervalued that could be used a little bit more and then last but not least is text analytics and text uh widgets so word clouds you know being able to take and this is really focused in on user generated information so you know if you have a free form field or something that you would like to see what kind of is in there to see if you have certain words that are you know being put out there a lot maybe incidents when incidents or opens up open up when they you know if you look at a description field you know you can actually pull that information out so uh here you can see that requests and accounts are the ones that really stand out so this is another really great one um that um may get underutilized just in general not necessarily just for servicenow but in general uh I think they had their Heyday a couple years ago they were very very popular but they they definitely have value if you're trying to look at user um uh for our fields that you know users can actually put their own information into so I want to add in though if we're looking at text analytics the text analytics stuff is is great it's a little it's a little dated at this point if this is something you're looking to do you probably want to look at clustering with predictive intelligence um that's out there as well I mean there's a lot more machine learning this is good for you to look for it but I find it to be uh more productive if I have a computer look for it and help me help me find the trends it helped me find the Clusters ahead of time without having me to have to manually investigate it but if you do want to see it you certainly can do that with text analytics yeah and I agree with that totally Adam I appreciate you bringing that up um let it let a computer do the work I agree definitely so um lastly we kind of just wanted to show you here how things have sort of uh progressed and how things how we're adding more so over to the left you have everything that is available in reporting and then um and then where that sort of lies in performance analytics and then how we brought it you know all home with the performance analytics and next experience whatever those charts are so this just kind of gives you an idea and again Safe Harbor um you know more things are being added with every release is our intent so I would look to you know maybe something that you see that's on the reporting side that you don't necessarily see over on the workspace side you know in the future hopefully all of those things are there I know that um uh and it's great that Olga's on because it's Olga and her team that are that are doing that type of development for us so um you know again Safe Harbor I would I would expect that you know things continue to be added uh hopefully new types of charts are created by somebody that's out there and you know if they're if their value hopefully we can get those into um you know servicenow as well so um with that real quickly all of the links that you see here were used to sort of generate all of the slides that you that you have this is a lot this is all this all comes from the docs but I I know that there are some uh uh previous Academy sessions that uh I think that you could visit as well that that talk about some of these particular things as well and I'll make sure that I add that to the community of event or out in the community so you can get to those um as well so I don't know where we're at with time but we got about four minutes all the questions are going y'all are amazing panelists no more questions um well all that in as we talked about visualizations uh we do have the Safe Harbor but there are some new visualizations coming in Utah um and again I I do expect we'll expand in there as there is a need um we prioritize the we prioritized the most used visualizations first and we're working down the list um but it's always great to hear your feedback about what visualizations we're missing what would what do you need to see what value do you have I know we saw some of those in the the comments today so we'll make sure we'll get that we'll get a copy of that list uh and and the team about what you guys are looking for but we always need to hear from you about what what visualization we're missing what else do you want to see um I think we have an incredibly strong foundation with the next experience visualizations um a lot of the stuff that we saw it addresses some of the the comments that we've gotten over the years um so we're set up for success we're gonna make make life easier for you and so now we just need to hear from you about what else do you want to see what else can we do for you to make your day-to-day life easier and make you and your users more productive and I would expect to see a flood of comments and questions on that um but although I think you guys hit all the big ones um that are in there but again for everybody make sure we hear your comments and your feedback yeah absolutely reach out to any one of us or the community and we will collect that information and spoon feed it to our team and the idea portal and support is a great place as well oh yeah I'm sorry yeah and as we do talk about well we'll talk about visualizations as they come through the understanding your use cases are what is what's really helpful as well not just I need this this chart but I need um I saw it in their comments uh in this session we need this chart so we can do this for um you know understand or incident um incoming incidents better if we had this type of visualization it's an incredibly powerful for us yeah and I think just even even as a whole just you know like I said I think people get get comfortable with a a graph or a chart that they have always used so maybe just stepping outside of a comfort zone and seeing if you can get more value from something that you've seen today that maybe that you've never never used before if the data works for that so just kind of just push yourself using you know some of the visualizations that are out there so we've got a couple minutes so I'm going to close up thank you to Tara Dan Adam and Olga I definitely appreciate all your help answering questions uh whether they are type or or speaking out loud thank you for that couldn't do it without you so real quick here just a couple more slides so make sure that you're looking at the platform analyst Community page this is actually getting ready to change the look of it I'm I'm at the last stages of getting some content together so it's going to look hopefully a little bit uh kind of similar to what was on the previous Community but not exactly like it but I know that there was a lot of content that was there that isn't necessarily directly accessible with here so just know that in the next hopefully before this week but going in the next week it's gonna it'll look a little bit different so make sure you check that out uh always continue to check out the Community page for the Academy sessions um this again all this recording will uh the Youtube recording will be attached to it and all of the links are that I provided to you and of course like I said some Academy sessions will be added to it uh don't forget the pro tips uh they're out there um it's a little quick hitter four or five minute videos I can hopefully give you some insight into um you know making good decisions around performance analytics and it actually kind of ties directly to what we've been talking about today so knowing your data what you want to what do you want to display thinking about all of that different stuff before you actually do it I think is always a great thing uh make sure that you're using now learning there's tons of uh in-depth training and Labs that are out there you just search for analytics and tons of things will pop up so make sure that you're using that the PA Advanced course is now on demand you don't have to be um in person for that anymore so that's you want to do that is available and and we have a lot of other great Academy sessions that fall within our organization so check those out um as well and um all we had a lot that made it here today hopefully everybody that wanted to come wanted to come but again the uh it has changed so if you're here you've probably already done this but if you need to send this to someone else this is a community page now where you can actually go and register for the new Zoom webinars that we're actually using and uh with that thank you sorry if we did we go over nope we right on right on that so again thank you everybody that's coming uh we'll see you in a couple weeks for our next Academy session
