[Music] hey everyone it's Justin thank you for watching and welcome to my house that's Justin's house in this video I want to talk to you about flow designer and some properties that you can set in your instance to improve performance why am I sharing this with you well I've been building an app writing some flows and I've been trying to tweak them so that they perform better they perform faster I'm going to share those with you in the future but while I was looking at the best practices guidelines I stumbled across a property that I had no idea about and I've been writing flows for years if you go into your process automation designer menu there's a menu item called properties and this holds some things like thresholds and max number of Records max number of iterations go pay attention all that stuff do go pay attention to it look at them but the setting I want to call your attention to is right here level of reporting data generated by generated by the flow engine now when I came in here mine was set to flows actions and steps that means that for every flow that was running and I have Flows In My Demo showcases in my PDI that are running just about almost every second it was storing all the reporting data what does that mean it means all the data about the the actions the payloads the results the statuses and all that so you can go back in and troubleshoot here's my message for you go to your production environment look at this setting if it's not off go change it to off you don't need that for all these flows if they're working you don't need to track all that data and keep all that in a table stored as history or have that in memory trying to keep track of all that log history of the execution statuses for those particular flows subflows actions and steps now why would I tell you this because you can turn it on individually so look check this out there's another menu item here called settings settings is where we can set for a particular flow towards for a particular action we can say go ahead and do reporting on it and so I can come in here I can add a new row and we can turn on or off reporting which you can see right here in the middle and it's even easier than that if I go to a flow that I've been working on here's an example I can go up to the menu item up above my head and I can click on Flow reporting settings while I'm troubleshooting maybe I'm working on this flow and it's not behaving right because I messed up something or I forgot to put in a period or a comma or a semicolon I can go in and say hey right now the current system default is off and right now I actually have this one set to on but I can turn it off and I can say do it for the flow do it for the flows and all the actions and the flow or do it for the flow all the actions and all the steps within those actions so that I can troubleshoot this is why I'm telling you to turn off in production and frankly honestly I would turn this off in sub production and your PDI because there's really no reason to just keep track of all that when you can come in as you're troubleshooting and turn it on for that individual flow subflow or action yes even on the Action level there's this flow reporting settings I hope you found this video helpful I hope you follow my recommendation if you found this video helpful please like Please Subscribe or share with somebody who you think might be interested in improving the performance of their servicenow instance and until next time don't forget to always be learning [Music]
