Next Experience in Tokyo - Creator Toolbox
[Music] thank you [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] [Laughter] [Music] this is the power I say okay let's give everyone a few minutes to join for those of you that are new that's a bit of a tradition with Earl and Brad we broke Earl welcome to Creator toolbox this is the show where we help you service now developers discover and put tools into your toolbox so that you have enablement to do more more efficiently more effectively we'll go around and do some introductions I'll get started my name is Chuck Thomas servicenow developer Advocate I've been here since 2010 customer for a couple of years before that and a long long decades-long history of software development development stretching back into a long time ago the galaxy far far away that's my introduction over to you Mr Brad a time ago he's a galaxy far far away oh I've got an echo what is happening that's my introduction yeah I have a crazy Echo right now all right I'll go my name is Brad Tilton I am a senior principal outbound product manager which is my longest title at servicenow uh here at servicenow uh uh with the next experience uh product team I've worked here for about six years been developing on the platform for about 14 and excited to share all the new stuff that came in Tokyo today foreign you're next Mr John oh John's muted [Music] there's my Yeti microphone it's made out of actual actual yetis um uh so I'm John Lind and I work in product success um and for the next experience in the UI Builder uh the UI Builder tools hi everyone I am Earl Decay I am a developer advocate here at servicenow for about a year now and before that I was in a bunch of with a bunch of customers doing development and mostly higher education fine morning everybody my name is Lauren mcmenamin I have been on the servicenow team for about five years but this one I'm brand new I joined from the solution Consulting team and before that I was a developer as well so thank you all for having us and I'll kick things back off to Chuck a quick reminder everybody that we are in the midst of our Tokyo season that little badge just above John's left shoulder as we see Tokyo release oh look at that nice special effects Earl way to draw the viewers attention or cause a seizure I'm not sure which you can find all of this great information over at devlin.sn Tokyo to see if you missed something you can go back and watch it or and some of the upcoming content put it on your calendar Mark your schedule and get that we've still got a few more weeks to go we're gonna be pumping this stuff out well into November so the we also have starting today October 18th call for content for Creator con 23 is open okay.sn cc23 CFC I know that's a lot of C's I'm sure you can figure it out Creator con 23 call for Content submit your ideas at this point all you need is an abstract and a description if you don't have an idea go to that article there are posted hours for open Office hours and you can refine your idea get a new idea share with yours your experience many of us will be on that call and you know focus and and sharpen that idea into something that you could potentially present at Creator con we'd love to see you there any other key announcements that I mentioned before where you dig in off the top of my head I'll take silence as golden all right then I'm going to hand it over to this man all right Brad that's me um all right so before we get into it today we are going to talk about what's new with next experience in Tokyo and uh next experience is really kind of a term that encompasses a few of our products so we've got the new UI unified navigation that we released in San Diego we've got the new theming engine that came out in San Diego we've got more than 20 workspaces that we ship out of the box now configurable workspaces and then also UI Builder and some of the the tooling our CLI our component building tools as well uh so I'm going to uh I'm going to go ahead and share in just a minute sorry I have to move this to the other screen all right that looks terrible on the stream yard screen that's all right there we go oh never mind it's it's not me uh all right so I have a few things here that we're going to go through uh in the PowerPoint I'm gonna try not to spend too much time in a PowerPoint deck since this is a developer thing we're going to get into an actual instance and get Hands-On with a lot of this stuff but there's a whole lot of little things and it's really too much to cover in a demo so we're gonna fall on PowerPoint a little bit to go through these uh so we'll start with the Safe Harbor uh do we have some sort of Safe Harbor uh Safe Harbor Safe Harbor play Farmers Safe Harbor that's the sound right Chuck you do that very well I'll do that oh that's right there's the sound the clocks on at the beginning I forgot I feel like you you folks aren't taking our legal obligations seriously all right so everybody should have had the chance to read all of this now uh I may say something about something we may do in the future don't make any financial decisions based basis things could always change and they often do all right um so we've got a few different areas that we're going to hit the first one is Unified navigation so unified navigation uh really just applies to the new look and feel of the instance if you have turned on the next experience UI in San Diego or Tokyo uh and I'm going to head off a question that we always get right now uh no we don't currently have any roadmap or timeline for when we would force customers to turn on next experience UI and stop using uh the old core UI that may happen eventually but it is not a thing that's anywhere you know close to a roadmap item right now and we're kind of we roadmap two or three releases out at a time for the most part so don't don't worry about that uh you know upgrade and turn it on kind of at your at your own um Leisure I guess um but the unified navigation is really just this um you know the new menus across the top and being able to open up configurable workspaces within the same tab within the same browser tab that you have you know the rest of your instance open so you don't have all of these new tabs all the time so in Tokyo one of the probably the biggest enhancement to unified navigation is we have given the ability to create additional top level menus with menu items underneath so when we released the new UI in San Diego you have all favorites in history so those are have always been around we just kind of moved them around and changed the way they worked a little bit then we added a workspaces menu so that workspaces menu lets you open up a configurable workspace within this same frame within the same browser Tab and then in Tokyo we've given the you the ability to add I think an unlimited amount of top level menus and menu items underneath if you had too many you'll get those little three vertical dots and depending on how wide your browser is you may get those little three vertical dots where you don't see the menus you have to click into it and then you see them so one of the cool things about this is um I think I think you know Chuck and I have been doing this for 14ish years and a lot of the people on have been around for a while and one of the things that uh I've always struggled with is there are just so many things in the left menu uh even if you're you know even if you try to be you know really tight as an admin with that menu and keep it as small as possible they're just going to be you know users in your organization that uh you know for better or worse just have access to a lot of different things and that menu just gets really confusing uh to where the only way you can find anything is by searching the all menu so this is you know this gives you the ability to take some of those things that you know some of your users are going to want to access a lot like in this case if I have a product owner Persona and I know that they're going to want to do a lot of Agile development stuff I can bring that up to the high level and I don't my product owners maybe the only thing they do in the instance is do Agile development stuff and they don't need to be in the all menu and searching around and so they have their own menu I can also you know protect these menus uh via role so that you know maybe only the product owners see this product owner menu and it's not there for you know whoever else needs to access it Brad this kind of reminds me of the old days when we were able to create what was it categories or sub menus where somebody could select that and say hey I'm a ITIL user for example and they would just see the actual options out of effectively all yeah I like this I remember the first time I logged into the service dining since the massive number of modules freaked me out everybody gets that it's like oh my God I got a lot of training to go here right right a little more targeted yeah no I don't remember the last time I've ever scrolled through the all menu at all like I've I think I've only used search for the exclusively for the last several years okay yeah yeah I I will also add uh that with the with the unified navigation uh we did get a lot of feedback around some things that maybe work differently uh in the new navigation than they did in the previous navigation the big ones are of course uh not being able to see your Pickers at a glance and um when you search these menus you know when you used to search the menu you could you would get favorites up top and then everything and all uh and so we we have definitely heard that feedback from our customers and developers uh and uh you know that is a thing we're looking to address in the future was keyboard shortcuts on your list uh keyboard shortcuts is a thing that uh that we have been talking about yes it's there's if you if you do a search or a find whatever it was uh it won't work unless you have a menu pin works fine if you if you in like the all menu but yeah that one the other day I was putting together ideas for the Did You Know video and went hmm did you know this doesn't work that's probably not going to be a good video yeah keyboard shortcuts I think being a little closer to the product development process I was kind of surprised with uh all just all of the things that you have to take into consideration when you're going to implement the ability to do keyboard shortcuts or add keyboard shortcuts um so it's it's a non-trivial thing uh to to add as a tool I would love that if you clicked on all favorites or any of the tabs that I would auto focus your cursor onto the filter yeah instead of having to click twice that is that is another piece of feedback that we have absolutely heard uh all right so let's move on the other one the other I guess sort of this isn't really unified navigation but it falls into it kind of um we did release a sidebar chat in Tokyo this is the first version of the sidebar chat it will absolutely get more enhancements and do more in the future but for right now uh this is kind of a replacement to connect chat because connect chat does not work with the next experience UI turned on and so this is kind of the first shot at replacing that right now uh all of your conversations do have to happen around a specific record that's kind of the main limitation but you do get all of the great things like user presence and drag and drop and quick actions all sorts of things like that uh there's a whole bullet point for emojis uh so yeah you get a lot of stuff with this and for right now it's record related I think long term we want to make it a little more flexible and versatile to where it doesn't have to be tied to a record um but you know this is kind of the first version of it that you can try out in a Tokyo instance any any upload with this yet I have not not yet workspaces in Tokyo so I've mentioned this already but we have more than 20 uh workspaces that we are shipping uh as of the Tokyo release uh so just about all of our major applications uh have their own workspaces uh so for a workspace uh that is generally the um the application team that owns that product uh will build out that workspace so they use the same tools that you are all using in terms of UI Builder and the workspace app shell and all of those things and then they end up coming in and building out their own works so the the new big one in San Diego was the service operations workspace that's the itsm uh workspace that we're shipping uh so if you you know if you have our it products and you want to start using workspace uh service operations workspace is a really good place to start there's lots of materials and things um that uh that are available there and then we've got some other ones we actually have uh we have a link uh I'm gonna that shows all 20 workspaces let's see let's see if somebody tests that link girl and then put it on the screen if it works uh I just typed it in from memory so maybe it'll work maybe it won't uh so anyway yeah we have a lot of these workspaces uh if you go to this link uh it is an article that Ashley Snyder wrote surprise she's written a ton of stuff on our Coe so you know surf around in there if you're uh if you are interested in any sort of next experience products but that link has a pretty long article that has every single workspace that we're offering every configurable workspace that we're offering with a link to its documentation um so that is a great place to get started there uh we had a comment I just saw a comment in this in the chat looks like the only difference is landing pages uh there are a lot more differences Than Just landing pages um that's just the screenshot that we're seeing here all right link validated all right and then we have a lot of uh kind of smaller UI builder in Tokyo enhancements I'm going to go through these kind of quickly so we can actually get into an instance um oh but before we get there this is my one of my favorite slides uh before I get into what's new with UI Builder and Tokyo I wanted to talk about UI Builder and portals because this is probably the most common uh question that we get around UI Builder uh and um so right now we've got kind of two different tools that allow you to build um you know different uis than the platform you could call it custom UI as you could just say you know like a different user experience um but those tools as of the Tokyo release uh are really um you know Their audience uh really determines which one you should use um so UI Builder right now is really suited towards fulfiller or agent experiences uh and you know that's really these workspaces that are these tab based experiences where you can have lots of record up records open and be doing a lot of different things at once taking in a ton of information and triaging and working uh these uh these different records it is built on our next experience UI framework which is a JavaScript framework built on web component standards it's similar to but it's not actually react although we have found if you are familiar with react you can pretty much you know jump in and be up and running pretty quickly with this framework we have this is an older slide I guess we've got more than 15 out of the box workspaces service portal is still what we are recommending people to use if you need a um you know a requester portal so service portal is really our kind of end user customer requester tool for building service portals and Employee Service Center employee Center is the the one that we currently recommend and then I've got a little bit a bigger breakdown here of when you might use which you can create portals with UI Builder but they really should be kind of smaller departmental portals rather than these Enterprise service portals so you can see on the slide there are a few uh really practical reasons why we think you should still be using service portal for these requester portals they are the UI Builder doesn't currently build responsive portals by default uh Pixel Perfect Design is not really doable yet that um so you can style a lot of things inside of a UI Builder experience but not everything and a lot of customers need their portals to be Pixel Perfect I always tell the story where I had built a portal for somebody in CMS probably eight ten years ago and they somebody looked at the portal and then sent me an email and was like Hey this container is a 659 pixels wide supposed to be 660 pixels wide can you fix that I was like I guess I can fix that yeah um you I don't think you'd be able to really do that with uib right now catalog's pretty limited and there's no ATF testing for UI Builder build experiences at this point and public pages are kind of hard we're in service world they're a lot easier so the the tldr on this one is UI builder for fulfiller experiences service portal for request or experiences at the moment that's not going to change too much in the near future so if you build a service portal today we are not going to come in and deprecate it a year from now you're going to have a long a longer life for that I feel like no matter how many times we say that that there's always a post every day about yeah this portals being deprecated no no it's not that that's why I include these sleds in pretty much everything um all right and then one last thing before we get into what's new in Tokyo uh there's another little short link up here uh which is uib Hub and this info is kind of at the bottom of that page but we do have a number of learning resources at this point uh that can that can kind of help you learn UI Builders specifically there's a now learning course there's a course on the developer site I did a Creator con lab we're actually in the process of doing kind of a more advanced now learning course I'm not sure when that's going to come out and then like I said we've got probably 60 plus articles related to different now experience things our next experience things on our Coe on the community that are mostly written by Ashley I think John and I have each written maybe a couple but Ashley has really really written a ton of stuff on there that that's great huh all right so the first uh the first thing that's new in Tokyo uh when it comes to UI Builder and we'll demo this a little bit uh is we've got a new record page template and uh the new record page template uh is really based on this New Concept that we built out for the Tokyo release called presets and controllers and so this is one of those things where this was kind of the bulk a lot of our development time went into building the foundations for presets and controllers but it's not super visible when you actually look at a Tokyo release but what that lets you do basically is pre-wire components and data resources together and right now only our internal application teams can can use these for their components I think eventually we'd like to open it up a little more but uh basically for the Tokyo release we have refactored all of our form-based components so all the components on the record page to use these presets and controllers so that when I drag one of these preset enabled components onto a page it automatically adds a data resource for me and then pre-wires all of my properties so if you've tried to build out like part of a form page uh pre-tokyo you know how painful it can be to add a component add a data resource and then figure out which parts the data resource need to add need to map to the form component properties but now you can do that you know now that that happens automatically and we'll show how that works foreign we've got some other kind of improvements to forms so we do have some user presence available uh in Tokyo when it comes to the form there's actually a user presence component and a new data resource that lets you work with the user presence a little bit uh you can also personalize the form a little bit from the form itself we are now supporting the tree picker and workspace so if you have a reference field and you want it to display hierarchically you can do that we have enhanced the tiny MCE and then added some field decorations the last one you can right click on forms so in you know in general right clicking isn't really an accessible thing to do because it only works if you have a mouse and it's not very obvious where you right click but those of us that have been around for a long time uh have gotten used to right clicking everywhere in servicenow and so a lot of feedback we got was hey we want to continue to be able to right click and configure things in workspaces uh and so we have added some right-click functionality to forms and we'll be adding even more um as we go I know my last workspace didn't my last workplace didn't want to move to configurable workspaces because there wasn't user presence so they're now right when they heard um I told them that they were introducing this in Tokyo they planned for the Tokyo upgrade awesome in December thank you all right we also have a new uh page creation um kind of process where it makes the templates a little more obvious what the templates do and then gives you a preview and tells you a little bit more about the templates uh and we'll we'll do this in the demo page I'm running a little behind so we also really enhance the tabs component I'm going to demo this a little bit but you can now mix and match different types of tabs within one tab set and then we also have this repeater tabs functionality which is really nice where I can use a repeater combined with tabs and build out uh different like sets of tabs programmatically where I don't have to you know hard code what all the different tabs do there's also a vertical tab configuration now just a little more flexibility left and your content on the right and we'll actually see this in UI Builder itself and just a heads up uh the this this new tab configuration is is much better than the old one in terms of just usability reusability flexibility but um it is not compatible so you'll be able to if you create a new a new workspace or a new um uh uh like record page um you're basically going to get three new tabs that come with it and you won't get that massive list of tabs that kind of came out of the box before uh so you'll be you'll be taking ownership of your tabs for better or worse but but again the experience is so much better you'll be able to reuse those tabs Etc but it will be a different experience for the developer than it was before together all right we also have uh we we have made viewports a little bit better um where you know we we've got this concept of page collections which will hopefully allow us to reuse Pages within different viewports um there are uh viewport tabs where you can now mix those with other tab types um and then uh we've got the extension Point editor here we've got some miscellaneous enhancements uh we have enhanced the Json editor the event flow mapping is a little better where if you have a component that has a whole bunch of events they don't all get displayed right away once you add an event once you map an event that shows up so it kind of simplifies that layup layout it makes it easier to know what events you have mapped to different things we have enhanced declarative actions a little bit and condition Builder now gets its own component um so yeah uh and then we also have some layout and styling enhancements uh where containers you can now style you know what's uh the external layer of the container and the internal layer of the container separately um so that was the thing that before whatever whatever CSS you added applied to both uh now those are separated out a little bit and then another thing that we've added is the CSS grid area this is more of a preview in the Tokyo release where you have to as an admin go in and enable this but it lets you do a little bit more complex grid layouts where you could have you know um a container all the way across the top and then one on the left and you can do all sorts of things with it to where it makes it a lot more flexible I guess that's kind of starting to address uh John skender in the chat brought up a not a question or like kind of like a statement about how uib has always been initially kind of maybe a little too technical for low coders but not as flexible enough for pro coders this is a seamless it can be kind of bridging that Gap yeah yeah so this is uh definitely kind of goes on the way there I did see that comment uh in the chat so um you know we we think right now uh UI Builder is not a low code tool all right so it's it is uh you know it is technically a tool where you don't have to write a lot of code uh but it does have a pretty high learning curve and so one of our goals and one of the big goals for both Tokyo and Utah has been UI Builder usability so we want to make it easier to use and then long term we want to make it uh to where it is low code friendly somebody could come in here and just start building with it without having to go through 10 hours of training so that is definitely our long-term plan and goal is to make it easier to use in terms of you know the flexibility for like a pro code developer um yeah there are some things that depending on what you want to do it can be more difficult so right now if you want to create just a completely custom experience that's not workspace related not even form related like a portal or something like that you know it's probably not as friendly to a pro code user that wants complete control over everything but where the advantages come in are if you do want some sort of tabbed experience or you do want to use you know forms and record pages and you can stand up and experience really quickly as a pro code developer that if you're looking for kind of a tab based fulfiller experience which is really what it's best suited for right now and then lastly our center of excellence up here I have mentioned the Coe a couple of times and if you want to find more information that is the place to go I don't think it actually looks like this anymore because it looks a little different on the new community but yeah that's that's there and then I think that's there we go oh and Lisa's emails up here shout out Lisa that just means I didn't update this deck that's awesome um let's go to my instance any questions before we hop into the instance here uh we had an earlier question uh the for the sidebar stuff is that a store download or is that how do you get that for the oh that is a great question I don't know off the top of my head I bet we could find out pretty quickly uh but I don't know thanks I'll do some research and then I'll come back to it all right there's there's too many uh too many products now to uh to remember all of those things um all right so the first thing that I want to show is uh in Tokyo we added that unified nav menu I talked about it a little bit so the out of the box we ship this admin uh Center menu but if you wanted to add your own you can go I think it's unified navigation there we go unified navigation configuration and then I've got my five menus here so I could come in and add a new one oh I have the bug on this one where's the new one here there we go we'll just change it from the list I don't know why it's not on my phone I was like where's the name field uh we'll call it a CTB menu and then I have to add something underneath for it to show up there so let's do that um application oh yeah let's go module and then I can add uh sorry I can add a module from uh from the existing modules nice the answer to properties foreign this Harkens back to the early days when you first become an admin and you log in and you just go nuts creating your own videos nice and simple um but it's kind of vintage that way yeah I'm thinking about like from a training or an amblement standpoint you could preset this up on an instance for uh you know a knowledge lab for example and just say go to the lab menu and pick X so you're not overwhelming people so if you really want to search it out you can look under all something something that's a great point I like my uh 100 000 order that cut off uh I think I think I probably would have to cash not do this to get it to work so one of the things that we do in next experience is we do some really aggressive caching uh and so anytime you are seeing something that's not working in your development environment so not in your prod environment but in your development environment you might run a cash dot do on the development environment to see if it fixes it but since in the interest of time we are not going to do that today so let's go ahead and look at a few things in UI Builder and the big one that I want to show is the the presets and controllers so we're going to open up my experiences I have a lot of them in this instance so this page doesn't uh doesn't load as quickly there we go so this is my workspace test experience and let's go ahead and create a new page uh so when I create a new page I get this new pop-up that comes up and uh we've got these uh three new page templates in the Tokyo release so these new page templates uh have been rebuilt on the new layout system they're using uh presets and controllers and so these this is what you should look at first if you're using a page template and then we have all of the older page templates as well one of my favorite things that we did with these page templates is if you click into them you get a lot more information about you know what the what the page template is and what it's doing sorry was somebody somebody have a question I had a quick question Brad um similar to those templates are kind of all over app engine Studio as well um four templates and app engine studio if those templates change none of the things that you've built using templates change is that the same for uib it is the same uh from Tokyo forward and uib uh but there is a thing that you can do so let's uh let's go ahead and spin up this uh standard record page template so I'm going to hit use template and we'll say these standard I'm going to hit create another little animation it's creating things for us so a couple of things that are new uh is uh we uh we set the test values for you this is really nice because before Tokyo if you used many of the templates to create a page you did not automatically get these URL parameters but the page needed them to function so it was kind of annoying to go in and have to create them so now these parameters have been created for you and they have been automatically populated so you get something here I could always come in and change the values if I want to but I at least see a record here now and so if I preview this I'll get you know some sort of page that shows up you're getting rid of all the gotchas that made me an expert in UI building I'm sure I'm sure there's some more uh uh so it's going to load come on PDI you're getting rid of all the roadblocks that I have to go to Earl to figure out that's what I mean anytime I ask the UI Builder question I send them directly to Brad all right so I'm not gonna wait for it to load um so back to uh back to Lawrence question so I've spun up this uh this record page from a template but it is it is a page that I own now I can come in and edit it uh right so I could come in and uh I don't even know what to do but I I can come in and edit this page I could add some page level events all those things um but let's say it's now the Utah release uh and uh there's a new version of this record page template that I really want to use uh what I can do is I can create a new variant of this page and then I could when I create the new variant I could create it on the new template and then I would have that new version as well I still have the old version that would have you know any changes I made to it so I could then create a new variant off the new version and then make my changes again and I would still have you know my Tokyo version of the page as an older variant and then I'd have you know the new Utah version is the new variant so that's kind of the you know the the method and practice for doing that if if you feel like uh you know you want to upgrade to the new page and I think um what's what's a couple of key things here regarding happened to Studios app engine studio is still using the previous record template which you actually can still do you can still create one that's called record sow um in the uh uh in the Legacy template so if you still want to use one of the old style uh uh uh record Pages you can still do that but the key thing is when you create a when you create a AES experience now in Tokyo it's still going to be the old the old format which is those kind of non-editable uh Pages um and in Tokyo we're moving away from that Tokyo is gonna be more like the kind of the Clone pages that that you could do before all right and then so one other thing that I want to show before we uh well I guess before we end is uh let's take a look at these uh presets and controllers a little bit so I'm going to create a blank page and then it's getting created for us and then we're going to add a form oh I just saw the comment about the the menu uh needing to be active uh it actually is active there's a bug in this instance where the checkbox doesn't actually show up but if you look at it via the list uh it was there anyway that's neither here nor there um so let's go ahead and add a form component to this if I'm going to add something I always put everything in a container and then let's add a form component so I have my form component and over here we can say hey this component is preset enabled so I can use this I can use this uh controller or I can just configure everything manually so you're not you are not uh you know forced to use the presets you can still kind of use it without presets and do it do your own thing but you can't do it with presets so I'm going to click on record form it's going to say before we can before we can do this you need to fill out something about the controller so we're still loading there so let me grab an incident sysid I think the reason it's loading so slowly is because uh by default reporting that task table right uh I don't think it's pointing anyway yeah there you go right and then so if I hit use uh it's going to configure the component for me I think it's going to show up correctly in a minute but you can see the the form component has all of these properties in it and if you kind of look through these uh there are you know I'm looking at the data resource I've got like a section in the data resource that I have to pull from and all of these different properties need really specific parts of my Glide form data resource and when you're configuring these you had to just go in and configure them all but you were basically always pointing everything at the same at the same item and so now we have just kind of pre-populated this so you know what's what's the what's the use case for this well you know if you if we look back at that other record page from a template there's a lot going on in that page so it is a fully functional record page but there are times where you may not want all of those things and you may not want to spin a page up from a template and then delete a whole bunch of stuff you just want to start from scratch and so this is one of those cases where you can just come in and start from scratch if you only want you know the form fields or a different form component on the page and not anything else and then one of the other things that we'll look at is it automatically added a data resource here this is the Glide form data resource and it it's a controller which is basically a new type of data resource we introduced in the Tokyo release but we've got you know this is a one of those vertical tab lists uh we've got those here where I can click into it and you can see that this is a fairly complex data resource there's a lot going on so it's really nice that it just it just configured it for us and then another thing I can do is let's say I wanted to add a different another component it's going to show me all of the components that will be compatible with the controller I already have on my page are highlighted for me so it makes it a little more obvious you know hey you can you can use these other things so let's go ahead and pick one let's pick an action bar so it is going to add an action bar and it has already configured itself because it knew hey there's already controller on the page and we're going to go ahead and configure these things for you nice so again uh the presets and controllers uh right now it's only applying to forms but as we as we go on you know we built this functionality in Tokyo and then really focused on getting the form the record page and form components uplifted with that new functionality so you know when we're you know uh I'm in the the platform team and so our development and Engineering teams are you know building products that are other at bu teams then use and so sometimes we may build something in the platform but it may take a release for you know the itsm team or another team to kind of pick that up so if you ever wonder you know hey why this thing came out but it's not being used over here it's because we got to build it and then the other teams can use it all right what was next we're we are not going to be able to do all of my um oh you know what let's do uh let's do a really fun one so my favorite Tokyo feature uh is that you can drag and drop components from the content tree here so if I wanted to put the action bar below the form go I think I have to drag up yep there we go so now it's underneath and if I wanted to do that uh the other way it would be a lot more difficult especially when you have a big page or if you've got a whole bunch of containers dragging something into the correct container is sometimes impossible if you're trying to do it in the preview pane so this was just another kind of Quality of Life Enhancement to be able to drag and drop in that content tree you could tell how long how much Brad is in this interface yeah my favorite thing is the drag and drop on a on a tree favorite thing in Tokyo is it is so so uh when we were at Creator con I did Creator con lab and uh and uh the Hague and then one in uh Vegas and so we had you know 100 plus people in our room and each of those and uh you know I'm walking around the room watching people do this lab and I think probably at least 10 people in each of the labs who were trying to drag and drop using this content tree like it just feels like something you should be able to do and so I got back and was talking to the inbound team and they're like oh yeah that's a that's a Tokyo thing I was like oh that's that's nice you know we kind of already knew before I even got the feedback um so drag and drop we added a condition Builder I think I mentioned this um we don't have that the one thing that I do want to show is [Music] um so oh yeah I can just I didn't save this yet huh all right so we're going to look at the new tab component uh and uh kind of you know some of the uh some of the new enhancements with it if we reload there we go I never saved my page that's why I just refreshed instead of creating a new one let's go ahead and add a container and then inside the container I want to add some tabs and then it's going to give me I think that usually gives me a tab by default all right so we're going to add new oh do I have to save it well well nope am I doing this right oh data driven tabs well I don't know what's going on with the tab it's live coding happy hour so I did do this same demo on our next experience Academy in August and so we will share that in the show notes and it has a much better demo of this because I I practiced a little more back then um yeah I think I think we're good uh so there are a few other things like the user presence stuff um is uh is is very good uh and um what else uh yeah so the user presence um John and I have been kind of exploring this a little bit lately where there's a component and there is also a um a new data resource that'll let you do kind of record watching which is kind of I think how they did some of the user presence so that's something to explore if you want to do some sort of polling or anything like that in a uid page so yeah that's right there's a record Watcher data resource now it's pretty slick yeah any any questions from y'all or from the chat I was kind of I'm just excited to see more presets come up because that's like so much things easier yeah drag and drop it's yeah it was really a drag and drop click uh setup really when you have that preset and then it created the the data record which is like a huge thing for it so that that's really cool that it set up all that for it do you know what's on the floor it was just before it was just a drag now it's drag and drops well played uh that's the next presets might be coming yeah that's a good question uh I know I know we're gonna we're doing some things with the list components um yeah and uh so I think though they will be enabled for list components um but I'm not sure I'm not exactly sure when we're gonna be able to deliver that um so sometime in the future pretty cool yeah all right well I mentioned this in the chat but I'll put it out here one more time we do have a breakpoint podcast coming out tomorrow the 19th of October with Amanda Jocelyn talk about many of these same things so get more information a little bit different perspective uh Amanda your boss Brad how's that how's that go or is it not out yet uh it's out tomorrow okay okay yep got it I saw an early one um so I did I did answer a question in the chat from earlier the how do we get the sideboards bar stuff is this does this sound correct you go to plugins and install the Omni experience standard features so yes that is it so to get the sidebar stuff in your workspaces you go to you on the screen uh look for the plug-in Omni experience standard features I believe I think Allen Novation answered the past earlier I think it may be a store app that you can pull in through the plugins okay thank you very much Brad for all the assistance thank you John for the backup support and uh we had a little bit of quality off camera time too get some technical details figured out and uh thank you Earl for driving and Lauren for the color commentary for the whole team we wish you all the best stay safe there's more Tokyo content to come so stick with us we'll see you soon take care everyone [Music]
