The 5 Cs of Creating a Designed Experience for Your User in ServiceNow
foreign intentionality we all think we are intentional in what we do but is that really true each and every one of us has unconscious bias or our preferences in history which the way our decisions can we step outside of ourselves to truly make choices that are not influenced by us now you may not like a certain color or a font I mean orange may drive you crazy but what if that is exactly the direction you need for your users to ask again can you put aside your bias can you be intentional hi my name is Tim I'm the ux UI lead for Glide fast Consulting and I've been designing for over 25 years and in that time what I have learned is that when creating an experience you need to be intentional [Music] now you have a specific group of users that you engage with they could be employees clients customers and you probably have a specific way that you encourage them that you talk to them that you inspire them you engage with them in an intentional way this is why it Glide fast we have created the designed experience our goal is to engage with you understand your business needs and get to know who your servicenow platform is being built for because your company is unique your users as a group are unique your messaging and brand is unique to me it sounds like your platform could benefit from being unique too and we take great pride in creating a delightful experience while developing your platform from understanding your business goals to optimizing for your users and when we look at designing any experience we use the five C's number one is consistency consistency is about creating muscle memory it helps to develop behavioral patterns anytime there are clear Pathways that are familiar we're helping to drive success there's a high probability you've started developing this with other work you've already done such as corporate websites brand guidelines these can be leveraged to create a unified flow and establish patterns number two is conversation conversation is really key a lot of times businesses get stuck in creating this really cool vernacular that means a lot to them but outside it may be a little bit confusing and we don't want to let business speak get in the way of your users we strive to speak to them where they are at everything should be understandable from the point of view of the user clever is fun but sometimes clever gets in the way of clarity number three is culture culture is one part brand one part humanization think of culture as the personality of the company when users will be influenced by how it is being presented so is your corporate personality cluttered busy friendly is it simple is it bold is it direct is it passionate let's bring that to the Forefront and let your portal really reflect Who You Are number four concision how direct are you being with your users are there barriers or excessive clicks your users have to jump through to get what they need it doesn't mean everything lives on the home page or up front that's a whole nother problem but can the user quickly get to where they need to go efficiently and without going back to try again number five is clairvoyance it can be frustrating when you've built something and then have to explain how to use it we can get to this intuitive state by understanding and knowing the users it then becomes a beautiful experience so are you ready for some intentionality are you ready for the five C's you can check out how we utilize them on our project site light hits or contact us we would love to talk to you about a designed experience until next time [Music]
