[Music] hi my name is chuck tomasi senior developer advocate at servicenow and welcome to another did you know video where we share useful tips about the now platform that not everyone may know about a quick reminder to like and subscribe if you find this useful and feel free to share it with your colleagues ok today i'm going to share a feature that i use all the time yet i'm constantly amazed at the number of people who are seeing it for the first time or may not realize all the permutations let's take a look in the platform ui we have this filter above the navigation menu here it is in ui16 and in the next experience it shows up under the all menu did you know you can type a table name a dot and one of several extensions in this filter to quickly jump to various features let's start with a simple one when we type incident.list it brings up the default list of incidents in the content section and when we say incident.uppercase list we get the incident list on a new tab you may be scratching your head asking what's the use chuck we already have an incident list as a menu option see one use case is where there's no menu option for the table on the application menu for example a list of all the system properties oh sure there are various ui pages for some of the properties but not a comprehensive list so when we type sysunderproperties.list we can get there quickly by the way you may want to favorite that one we may also have built applications that have tables we don't want to expose to users on the menu but we still need to get to them as developers alright here's another one when we type table name dot form we get to the form and like before when we use uppercase in the extension we get to the same thing on a new tab now interestingly there's a dot do that does the same thing but uppercase dot do doesn't seem to work not sure what that's all about so i don't use it that often let's take a look at another one table name.config it brings up many of the configurable options associated to that table like business rules client scripts dictionary entries overrides and more and yes dot uppercase config displays it in the new tab as we would expect real quick one more table name dot filter and dot upper case filter of course this displays an empty list why because it's faster if we just want to search for records in that table no need to display a bunch of records we're not going to need anyway this works like a regular list just with no records to start us out it's important to note that we type the table name in the filter not the table label we can find the table name in several ways one of the easiest is to go to system definition tables and use the table name under the name column it's going to be all lowercase and often has underscores never spaces now as a bonus did you know in the next experience we can use this feature from any of the drop down menu filters check it out history incident.list done workspaces incident.config boom that's all for this time before i go remember to tag your blog video or social media with the hashtag servicenowdyk for things you've learned that you'd like to share with the rest of the community thanks for watching [Music]
