welcome to service Town news for the week of August 15th first up I want to talk about data filtration I know it's a feature in Tokyo I've been excited to talk about and I can't wait to see how folks start to use it I'm so glad that drove and ashitosh uh spoke about this in a YouTube video that I have linked below where they go through it and I think it really adds a new tool to our ability to control who can see what records it works differently than access controls and drove and as you just go over it some but I just wanna at a high level kind of say my understanding of it so imagine you have a group called the HR Group and tickets assigned to the HR Group need not be visible to anybody but people in that group the way that I think that data filtration Works whether I saw the SQL debugging and the other session debugging was if you're logged in and you don't meet the subject condition which is like the logged in person's session or IP address recruit memberships or role memberships then your SQL query is modified at that level to restrict those records from your list so if you have a bunch of data filtration records your query will seem really long but because it's omitting them before the results are returned it should be really quick the result that is should be faster if you want to hear more about it uh check out their video below and there's another talk on tuesday on the Creator toolbox from the servicenow developer group I think next up Kieran Anson wrote this awesome post about templates and how to measure their usage which spawned from a conversation on slack if you're innocentdevs.com and request an invite but ultimately if you're not familiar with templates it's you know you go to a record you can click on the the Ellipsis or the three dots to show the templates toolbar and then you can apply a template to a record or you can create one for your personal use or you can create one to share with your group or the administrators of your tool can create one and share it or where they need to share it and you can have it like pre-film like this issue is missing this critical information to help us help you or this issue has been resolved if you have any questions feel free to reach back out to me in your own way it's a great feature but you can schedule templates so you can give some teams some level of automation outside of Flow Design or workflow for those that don't want to get into those things but also one thing he touched on at the very end of his post was whether or not doing this was worth it configuration versus customization and how that's the wrong question but it should rather be is this work worth the time and worth the maintenance going forward uh go ahead and give kieran's post uh this was helpful if you found this um if you found this post useful Tracy O'Brien has some automation at servicenow to post in every group of the service and user groups and they're starting a new thing called The Snug meetups it looks like it runs a lot like the developer Meetup program I used to run the Minneapolis developer Meetup program and it was great um but it was work you had to find a venue and figure out topics and pay for it on your own and then ask for reimbursement and this program seems very similar to that one I'm actually not sure what the differences are so how would you think it's different in general like I'd love to hear about in the comments of like if you would attend this it looks like they have some limitations on like who can attend and who can attend which I always find kind of weird and gray and hardwood Force but I'd love to hear it uh you folks have to say about these events and if you're interested I guess Reach Out Below to Tracy yesterday I went through the the stuff in my list of things to check out before Monday and the lady coding happy hour was on Friday I guess with mg opw uh ebony page and Sharon they did a great job walking through the app engine studio and how some of these New Tokyo features are in app engine Studio so I'm really grateful to see this stuff if you want to hear about some of their origin stories and some other fun banter that they had with uh the interns I'd highly recommend watching that video finishing it out this week um Robert fedoric has been making a bunch of videos on Tokyo he talks about the the language translations he talks about the zipping and unzipping attachments in the admin Center specifically if any of those um if any of those are things that interest you go check out the links below he also posted a video nothing to do with Tokyo about flow designer so if you want more about that too go check it out if there's something I didn't talk about but I should have leave a comment below about it I I'll check it out or maybe someone else will see it I'd I'd recommend you and you to engage with the audience here have a great day and I'll see you guys next week
