[Music] hello and welcome to tech now the webinar series for servicenow developers admins and builders of all skill levels my name is chuck tomasi so glad to be here before we get started wanted to make a couple of notes first of all quick safe harbor this webinar is being delivered august 4th 2022 which coincides with our early access and items shown in this webinar may change before general availability on september 21st purchasing decisions based on the information here carries with some risks just so you know okay with that legal stuff out of the way let's get on with the show my name is chuck tomasi as i just stated senior developer advocate at servicenow been here since 2010 was a customer for a couple of years before that and there is a long history of things that happened for decades going way back that we will not be covering in this webinar a lot of fun let's have a discussion at our next developer meetup about some of that if you're interested in the interest of time i will turn it over for jeremy for his introduction hey folks i'm jeremy duncan platform architect here at servicenow get the pleasure to share this time with chuck tomasi he's i spent a lot of time curating some content so excited to get to that i've got 16 years plus experience in the enterprise setting i've been a customer partner employee of servicenow for 11 years now so spanning across time since pre-aspen release just a little bit of personal about me i was a certified reserve police officer for about 10 years and the city that i live in um but i love camping and spending time with with my family as well so getting right on into today's agenda we are going to talk about the tokyo release obviously of servicenow um with that we've got lots of cool uh features we're going to talk about app engine we're going to talk about automation engine we're going to talk about our next experience a little bit of ui builder in there i know everybody loves that uib topic we're going to cover some dev and configuration topics mobile workflow integrations auth and some other random cool stuff and the random cool stuff i just want to put a plug in again for chuck you know there's lots of content that comes out internally that we get to see ahead of time and there's going to be some things that are published that are just common knowledge but chuck goes a level deeper and he's looking he's asking questions so you're actually going to see some cool things here that's not just canned information that comes from internal um plugs from our department so chuck does put a lot of time and effort into this we will answer your questions again if we can't get to them live i will answer them on the community later if you want another chance to see this mythical creature called chuck uh you get to see him on break point um and it talks about the stuff that makes you a better servicenow developer you'll hear about product features career stories and even some uh non-technical skills right lost a whole bunch of attendance as they went to fill out that form yeah do that later i forgot to mention don't do it wait wait wait till the end it'll still be there it's not like a limited quantity and i just realized jeremy between the two of us we've got 25 years of servicenow experience well that's a quarter of a century man that's a long time that's pretty dang impressive if you ask me that's that's pretty cool i like it alrighty we are here to take a look at tokyo so let's take a look at some of the features in the platform app engine and automation engine this is an overview i want to be clear about that there's excuse me there's no demos that are going to be happening today we will be saving those for deeper dives on topics covered throughout our tokyo content which will be august september october even in november we're going to have podcasts and videos and blogs on many of the topics you see here so if you've got questions if you've got interest please let us know we'll take breaks during this presentation for some q a but we'll also save some time at the end for the q a at that point uh you can find all of that schedule of content in the resource panel if asks and we may need to mention this a couple other times there are some slides that have little dollar signs in the upper right hand corner that means it is a separately licensed product and we will not be talking about licensing or pricing at all in this if you've got questions about that please reach out to your account team and have that discussion with them they know what you bought they know what you're entitled to they know how much things will cost if you want to get more or upscale or whatever they want to call it all right let's start with what was first on the agenda app engine for newcomers i was like to do this because there may be people that this is their first time watching a servicenow video for you newcomers if you're new to the platform app engine provides a set of low code capabilities that really allows anyone to build cross enterprise apps at scale at the heart of app engine is app engine studio this provides an easy way to build tables workflows experiences with the uis and security of course a table builder is one of those capabilities it's used to create and maintain the bits of your apps based on of course tables and in tokyo table builder includes a unified experience for forms tables and flows this makes it easy to drive a what we call a table-centric build process no more jumping from tab to tab between table and forms and flows they're all right there at the top so looks like a simple switch it's there for you makes it easy ah the formula builder it's been introduced in tokyo this provides an excel like capability which makes it easy for those citizen developers to transition away from their traditional spreadsheets and start using service now now for the technical people if you really want to know the formulas are stored in the dictionary definition there is a switch in the calculated field a choice list that says do you want to use javascript or formulas so you know where they're stored and you know how to modify them so new capabilities it's not one or the other you can use either in san diego we've introduced we i know we're talking about tokyo today so what's up chuck well way back when in san diego six months ago we introduced template authoring to app engine studio so you can build out this library of reusable application components or templates and in tokyo and beyond when you author a template it's now possible to define who has access to which templates you can do this by user group or say everyone and i'm told i'm told this is in hint for the future even more governance is coming so look forward to that app engine studio also now includes the ability to create notifications we didn't have this in earlier releases these notifications are stored in the same notification table along with all the others for centralized administration so whether you're building a notification right from the classic ui or from aes or from dev studio they're all going to be in that notifications table when you set this up either from the classic ui or aes and you set the send mail notification to uh when triggered via flow action like you see in the call out here that lets it appear in a flow designer action called send notification not send mail send notification it just shows up as a drop down and go hey go filter out all those notifications that have this type of trigger those are the ones i'm going to show to you so you can reuse notifications quite easily in flow designer finally for app engine we have something called app engine management center coming out it's a new feature that allows it to sound markety but it's a single pane of glass to all of your app dev needs this is this is your control tower really for that fleet of applications that you're doing additionally you can also configure and manage the pipelines of how software gets from dev to test to prod to the other instances so approvals and checkpoints and testing and all that stuff can be defined now let's switch from app engine to automation engine automation engine if you're not aware can be thought of as the combination of integration hub which we've had for the last several years combined with rpa hub which we introduced in san diego just six months ago coming to the store in august of 22 that's this month if you're watching this live or close to it is something called automation center this is your command and control center for automation and the two main things you get from this are one central governance you get to manage and monitor the automation of the executions happening and it provides that end-to-end life cycle and two you get a little alphabet soup here cio roi so you get to show the business value you set goals and find out how you're doing against them to show the time and money saved through rpa it also has a pre-built service catalog item so you can automate the idea intake somebody says hey we'd like to build an integration to this boom put it in there you can out track it it's also pre-integrated with process optimization so the system can start to find opportunities for you as well which i think is just really cool it also has i'm not done yet this feels like an infomercial at this point we also we also act now and you also get the apis so developers can push bots bot processes and java executions into automation center from third-party rpa platforms like uipath and i love this every bot is actually a ci in the cmdb so you are change aware you can put these processes around there another new feature in tokyo is something we call documentation excuse me document intelligence now essentially we taught servicenow how to read okay really what it is is human assisted document parsing to replace manual work you've probably seen this if you've uploaded a receipt it knows where the total is and the tip and that kind of thing that's what we're adding to servicenow as an example uh you might read in a document let's say it's a purchase order and the system can read that store the information and make decisions in a flow based on it for example if the total of the po is less than a thousand dollars you don't need approval it does require some training you can start with a limited set of like five to ten sample documents use the humans to clean up the model and then when you get to say 50 samples your your your accuracy rate is way up there so don't worry we provide those out of box flow designer actions and templates to help you build out those flows quickly and easily i am really looking forward to see what customers build out of that now mid servers are used for several things if you're not aware a mid server helps to do things like integrate to data behind your corporate firewall java applet sits behind the firewall does outbound communications only i could have a whole webinar on those in fact i think we do somewhere in the tech now library not going to cover all the details here for improved availability we added clustering to them quite some time ago well with tokyo integration hub now supports those clustered mid servers so if you've got an integration you want to make sure that it's reliable you can attach it to a cluster quite easily now let's take a step a little deeper this is for the people that are actually building these types of integrations we we make integration actions out of steps got a couple of new things that i wanted to point out the first one is in the power shell step we've introduced a new api called write snc log so you can put into your powershell scripts messages that write directly to the mid server log for improved debugging makes it easier to find out what's happening where it's going what are the values just go check out the mid server log we've also made it easier to test your your powershell credentials with a test button right on the step this was something that customers had asked for one of my favorites the rest step commonly used has some nice enhancements including the ability to use multi-part attachments uh overriding the mime types of attachments doesn't happen often but when it does you've got a way to do it improved handling of headers with the same key again not that common but it comes up and now you've got an easy way to do it just plop them in there and a new one for a dynamic base url so if you're doing integrations with rest you might want to look at those as well now there are times when you need to override the default connection in a data source or a scheduled import or even an integration hub import and prior to tokyo you could only do this on scheduled imports with what we call a pre-script excuse me with the latest release you can create connection overrides which make it a simple pick from the connection list now i already mentioned this one real quick but one of my favorite integration hub features from the last few years has been the integration hub import this really simplifies the whole process of data sources import sets transform maps and field mapping wonderful wonderful feature with tokyo integration hub import has gotten a few new improvements to make it even better than its predecessor for example if a source or target field changes used to have to rebuild the entire map well now the system recognizes this and says hey do you want to do an update much easier also you can match a reference field on something other than the display value so when something's coming in it might be a department code or might be an apartment name and the the source and target fields you can't really see it here but uh well i guess you can on the screen image the one on the left all of the field names are not alphabetized so makes it a little easier to sort through them we've also added a flow designer integration hub dashboard now oddly enough this isn't currently available as a module from the menu on the left hand side but you can create one easy enough if you want to use this through a url at the bottom of the page once the plugin is activated you'll find there are urls and plugins and whatnot throughout this and i will be making the slides available via pdf after the after the event so watch for those on the community blog jeremy i believe before we move on to the next experience any questions oh yeah we got lots of questions i already got some people i'm sorry does automation center complement integration hub or is it a replacement and is this changing the strategy going forward automation center oh that's a great question i'm trying to think of a quick analogy for that it's it's a bit like dev studio it gives you a place to organize a lot of that stuff uh you know you could do you could build an entire app without ever going into studio but you'd be hopping around to system definition tables and your system definition business rules a flow designer but you could do a lot of that stuff much easier and control it there's value to automation center in that like i said you set those goals you can measure against them show how much time is saved so yes i would say it complements it it adds value to the whole automation process whether it's integration hub or rpa hub on to next experience in ui builder now again i'm going to do a quick background for the newcomers ui builder is the tool we use to create and configure workspaces workspaces are where your agents and the people who eat breathe and sleep in this stuff all day great interface great experience for them to work with on the desktop within ui builder we've added a new condition builder component it can be configured excuse me it can be added to ui builder pages and include a host of properties that you see on the right now for those of you that use condition fields on the core ui the platform ui classic ui whatever you want to call it in the past i use them all the time this goes well beyond that the next experience email client used to be two components it's now a single component so we've combined the general composer along with the mini composer there's just that single toggle you see in the callout that says hey show me the email details boom you've got what used to be in the general composer so easy for the people that just want to say here's who it's to make it happen and to establish parity with ui 16 we've added a user presence to the record view to show who else is looking at this record and of course through cti and email you can easily communicate with the other people that are online i've already used this kind of surprised me like whoa i didn't realize someone else was looking at this record pretty fun now i have to confess i feel a little silly saying this since i feel it should have already been in the platform but here it goes and when ashley told me this one i went oh really okay so here's your here's your oh really moment in the next experience workspaces there were a few places where you would see an entire list of records for example all the ci's and you didn't have a way to filter them well i'm happy to say this has been rectified by adding a condition builder to those places now to everyone who commented on this thank you for your feedback let's keep it coming three things on tabs we've got multiple tab types for the tab component on a page with the tab configuration developers can toggle whether they want to show or hide a tab or you can even apply scripted values to show or hide the tab conditionally and something that's new that i want to see how effectively people use you can choose to use horizontal or vertical tabs as you can see in the picture top ones obviously horizontal one on the left is vertical they need me to spell that out anything new we need to call out before moving on jeremy does the app engine management center uh accommodate update sets or incremental changes to existing forms and applications or does it only accommodate newly built apps uh it accommodates apps built through app engine app engine studio and you can get your legacy apps into there so the app engine management center is really for that end-to-end life cycle it it's a it's another way of let's leave update sets in the past you don't even really interact with update sets you interact with the application itself and if you've just you're going in and saying hey we've got a visual visitor registration application and we need to modify the form or put a new choice on a choice list you do that in app engine studio and then app engine management center handles how that is how that goes from dev to test to staging to prod or whatever other instances you've got out there including triggering atf tests or instant scan or whatever else you've got in that pipeline definition cool can ui builder be used on catalog item forms hey you know i'm gonna have to check on you on that one i am not a ui builder expert i'm sure brad tilton is probably screaming at his screen right now i mean we do have we do have form builders um we've got you know you've seen multiple iterations of that between ui 16 um and and and uh of course an app engine studio but ui builder uh specifically yeah we'll have to get back to you a few interesting things about development and configuration this is this is more in the sysadmin kind of section than the developer but developers do a lot of this as well now ever since i can remember email translation has been a common request how do i send this email in one of various languages in fact back at knowledge10 when i was a customer i remember doing an impromptu presentation with jared bennett yes jared bennett from the demo data is a real person too the the presentation was how might one send a multilingual email there's a there's a bigger story behind that little anecdote but just tells you it's been been around for a while and i am really happy to say that there's an easy way in tokyo to request that being a key build and manage your multilingual notifications on the notification record so here's how it works in tokyo and obviously beyond you basically create a record in the translated notifications related list that you see on the bottom of the the screen here and let's say we put one in chinese and one in french canadian if the recipient's email address match not email address if the recipient's language matches one of the ones you've got available it sent that notification so you build out these translations and store them in the related list very easy to do if it doesn't match obviously they get the default from whatever the parent record is now to take that one step further we've also added a new plug-in called glide notification translation that works with the dynamic translations plug-in to help make those notification translations dynamic now dynamic translations is a paid product that means you pay for the service now feature and you pay for the service that you get translations from whether it's google or ibm or whoever jeremy did you have anything to add to this one you you commented in an earlier practice session yeah i commented on the fact that that localization and internationalization on the platform is it can be a bit challenging and [Music] this feature i think i was just raving about this this being available right there's one question about this one chuck you may or may not know but michael asks man these things are just leaving me are the multilingual emails only keyed off the user's language parameter or is there are there multiple ways to trigger that via additional parameters events or any specific conditions my understanding is it looks at the cis user record to see what their language is it it also works with groups so if you send it to a group of people it obviously parses those apart and goes well here's who's in this group and who's in this group and these are the individual recipients because you may have somebody who's french and somebody speaks chinese on the same team or same group it will send those accordingly so that's my understanding if i hear any different or somebody in the community wants to jump up and go no wait you can also do this this and this i'm open to learning even more importantly it'd be good to see a use case for that because the you know one place you'd want to see that is what does the user have their language set at we check the box do the translation and move on i would check out um you know just dynamic translations in general if you're looking into using a translation service on the platform platform is very very neat configuration uses google use other you know platforms for for doing the translation so it's really really powerful so okay couple quick ones also on email we've introduced s mime i know a lot of you are looking forward to this we've added the ability to send and receive encrypted emails use the plugin shown here not too hard to figure out that's mime email guided setup oh man i i hope all of you have had a chance to use guided setup it was first introduced in 2016 as a way to provide step-by-step instructions on how to set up an app or a process itsm csm itom a lot of these use it to walk you through go set up these records go turn on this property ever since it was introduced i've been waiting for a guided setup builder because in my opinion many apps need to be configured before they're really useful whether you get it from the store or the share portal it's such a vital component uh with tokyo we've got a guided setup builder so you can create a guided setup to instruct admins on how to configure properties create records or whatever you need to do to get that app up and running atf doesn't stand for alcohol tobacco and firearms it stands for automated test framework it's our in platform test framework it's been around for several years we've done a podcast on this one we've done a webinar we've talked a lot about it in the past and we've we introduced these quick start tests a while ago to help customers build upon them say here's incident management for example and then you could configure them to your own needs what was hard was building one from scratch well we made an acquisition a little while ago from a company called dot walk which introduces ai powered regression testing we did that back in november of 21 here it is less than a year later it's in the platform and that lets you the the atf has added the ai power test generation the other sticking point which we've had is around headless testing people setting up the docker instances and getting those running realize that was a little difficult so we offer this thing called cloud runner which is a service we offer to run two headless tests at the same time concurrently it really simplifies that whole headless testing process uh you can add additional capacity for dollars there should be a dollar sign on that screen partly so you can extend cloud runner beyond just the two complementary ones that you get of course this is very important for the qa teams admins and developers you can get the apps from the app store that's read those come from this also brings us to one that i just learned about a week ago called admin center now before customers had to spend a whole bunch of time researching and asking what they had and what they should do next well now the instance will use this information uh of of what's currently being used and what the customer is licensed for to make smart recommendations to provide that guidance it's activated on upgrade so you don't have to install anything it's part of the standard platform so it doesn't cost anything and initially we're focusing on itsm and itom there is expansion coming soon so look forward to more of that in utah and beyond it is optimized for the next experience but it's also available in the classic ui as well so everybody's covered any questions about any of those other platform things we talked about jeremy yeah just simple one how do you get admin center automatically i forget what the application menu name was but if you look for edmond center on your tokyo instance you should have it it's it's just part of the upgrade cool matt asks can atf run tests on web apps hosted outside of servicenow i i thought that was possible as a custom ui um that would be tricky though because you need to assert values you know you could you could definitely you know click this and do that but what is it you're checking for because if i were to say do something in service portal and say i i fill out this record producer and i click submit you have direct access to the backend data to say did this value appear in this field if it didn't it's a failed test external web apps going to be a little trickier to validate have you found thanks joe have you found that back to translations that dynamic translation support the gs.get message for scripted notifications i've seen people do that before as their translation method this helps reduce a lot of that because rather than messing around in the cis ui message table for your translations you can then see and edit and use templates and all the other good stuff right from the notification record couple quick notes about mobile first we've tied the mobile client to our existing adaptive authentication capability this allows you to access an ip restricted instance from a mobile device that's outside your corporate space so admins simply activate and configure the adaptive authentication plug-in i'm saying that slowly so i don't trip over my own tongue and users they register the device takes only a few seconds you go i got a device here we go great it's it's almost like a vpn kind of thing but it's using adaptive authentication without a vpn the second thing are some updates to our mobile card builder so first containers if you're familiar with mobile card builder containers have been updated to allow you to use background images with opacity uh this is in addition to the existing capability of using background colors so if you're getting really creative you can now use background images also you can configure two new elements on the screen icons and video which you can see we inserted a creator toolbox just for fun we've also added the predefined font styles for the size and weight for easier configuration so you're not repeating those same options over and over and i like i like how the the product manager told me about this reason we taking care of the background magic to make the fonts auto scale based on the os settings you know when you go into your phone and you go to accessibility and set it to large fonts our mobile application is now respecting that setting as well and good news everyone sound like professor farnsworth from futurama we've added 14 new card templates uh and the existing ones have also been updated for the features i talked about before like accessibility and icons and all those other new features all right next let's move on to flow designer and process automation designer again i'm going to do a quick background for those that are new flow designer is our low code way to automate your process it's been out for several years if you haven't taken a look at it and you're not using it yet please you really should this is the future of automation for your processes process automation designer or pad as you'll hear it referred to occasionally it offers a low code way to build on top of flow designer to automate processes and interact with them via a playbook on a workspace what's a playbook you ask thanks for asking i say playbook is the visualization of pad executions so think of one as like the design time and one is the runtime visualization of that let's talk more about playbook because we got something new in tokyo the system automatically advances to the next step or stage to reduce those clicks that those uh agents and fulfillers need to to do when they're in a workspace we've also introduced something called proxy data broker for improved performance and we offer more out of the box pad activities like docusign adobe sign team slack and again the product managers tell me there's more on the docket to come finally for playbook we've improved the right side config panel to show general can't see it on this screenshot unfortunately but there's three tabs general automation and experience properties for example one of my favorites under automation you can see which flow or subflow or action is connected to that activity and even better you can click the little link and go directly to it so these things are more interconnected for easier development go oh this i need to tweak that subflow flow designer also now introduces some read-only roles to better protect certain users from doing certain things they shouldn't i'm going to leave it at that and try to be as polite as possible you can apply a general role fd under read to users or groups typical sysadmin stuff here or you can get more specific down to the flows actions and those operations the execution details to restrict them it it literally like hides buttons at the right time makes things read only at the right time you can still click through to what you need to when you need to just to inspect a couple more things about flow designer the flow diagramming view that came out in the last family release in san diego it can now display more trigger types as promised uh more actions as promised and of course more logic another thing is the scriptable flow runner api where you would normally trigger a flow or subflow from server-side script like a ui action uh it's got two new things in it one is called with roles and if you've ever configured a flow or subflow you know that you can run it temporarily with some roles to get done what it needs to well if you add this to the scriptable flow runner api again i have to say that one slow today it will employ or it will run it will run with those flows that you specified there's also another one in the flow configuration when you set that up to run as a specific user so as user method both of these are used with the dot quick method so just a little footnote there the flow will run as the specified user rather than system now also final note the flow already runs as the current user for foreground executions so you don't always need this if you're running in the foreground but if you're running in the background you do decision builder decision builder wonderful new application it's been out for a little while i think we came up with about a year ago we've had a couple of creator toolboxes julia perlis has been a wonderful product manager working with us uh it's really designed to extend the power of the platform to more business users users and she gave us some hints of what's coming and it's nice to see some of those things actually coming to fruition decision builder now allows you to extract the complex well it always has and let me try that again it allows you to extract that complicated decisions from code hey let's make a switch statement hey let's not let's use decision builder uh or multiple if else's in a flow you can put that into a configurable table abstract that away from the actual flow or script now in tokyo we've added the ability to export those decisions into excel why because that enables the business to empower their users to make more meaningful changes without the hurdle of having to learn about the platform they can work in an environment that they're comfortable in without the need for a pro coder to then translate that logic into code they simply import the changes straight from excel and for pro coders we've also given you a new view to access a condition builder experience for making more advanced decisions the downside is that if you make some of those advanced decisions you can't later edit them in excel so it's it's one of those you've cleared the hurdle you can do this advanced stuff but not in excel and something else that i found when i was poking around the system i give it access to an early tokyo instance if you're in the action designer and you want to add a step the modal is now displaying the various options vertically rather than side by side i don't know about you but i always seem to miss them when they're side by side i like this layout a little bit better so see what you think i found it very easy to get used to quick break for jeremy yeah we may go back just a little bit but um this one's a kind of a repeat question are there any allow plans to allow multi-row updates uh in the decision builder ui if you're doing a multi-row update you would do that at the flow level not at the decision level the decision level is basically saying if i have these inputs here's the output values where you apply those values is up to you so you can put it in a for each record and go great let's update all of these records that meet this criteria and go forward that's how i would design that is next experience replacing agent workspace so we've seen a lot of conversation around agent workspace versus configurable workspace and and i think maybe that's that's where we're seeing that conversation come from but are we seeing the agent work workspace will be sunsetted and and moving into what we consider next experience or configurable workspace i don't have any insight as to what's happening with agent workspace respectfully to configurable workspace do you no but we do i do want to just kind of plug we do have a circle of excellence out in the community that's focused on all things next experience uib i'll put that link in the chat and i'll post it i push it out to everyone but that's a great place to go to be your uh again center of excellence around that topic good point good point all right i'm looking at the clock and the number of slides left so i'm going to have to pick up the pace just a little bit we'll see if we can catch some more questions at the end uh security and authentication we've created a new secure a series of security pages in tokyo to make it easier to create and manage your certs these allow you to do things like uh customers have been asking for things like select a cipher and the order of it on the tls settings page on the syoc which stands for sign your own certificate page you can generate a csr and use your preferred certificate authority aka a ca to sign that certificate we've also added a new field on the custom url record for those of you using custom urls love them you can provide an identity provider attach a specific idp to the custom url so when somebody comes to a a known portal or whatever it sends them off to the right one maybe it's facebook for your uh you know citizens that are out there for government agency but it's octa or something for your internal employees on a different portal if you don't provide one then it defaults to the default portal page which of course you can put in your own idps like some people have one portal page that says sign in with google sign in with facebook sign in with apple this does require both the multi-sso and the custom url plugins another one that i'm really looking forward to is an update to oauth that i have just been asking josh nerius before he left a number of times previously our use cases were a system to system integration using a single credential with tokyo we now support the ability for the outbound oauth flow to request oauth tokens on behalf of the logged in user let me give an example let's say your hrsd onboarding portal retrieves to do's from workday and chronos on the user's behalf so it uses that oauth token bound to the current login user so workday for example would authenticate as that individual rather than system or whatever credential you hooked up to uh the oauth account all right this is this is a section i call random cool stuff because i couldn't figure out where else to put it just uh some things you might want to be interested in in tokyo you can use the protected tables plugin to truly protect audit and log tables from changes this goes beyond acls which many of us know if you script and you use glide record the acl is pretty much run at a system level so you can get around those many people said hey these are my audit tables you shouldn't be able to jack with them so we're we're fixing that with this plug-in log protection provides full trust in immutable tables that are listed in this admin panel easy to configure also regarding security we've got a new feature called data filtration this complements acls by adding declarative actions when to grant access based on groups ip addresses and more this is typically things that people had to script in acls the idea here is we're reducing the scripting capability but not taking away from the the features you're looking for the the outcomes uh there is no scripting as i mentioned it's all declarative i have to put in a however there if you're using existing apis like glide records can read method it will check data filtration rules if they exist so again this is complementary it works with and on top of acls we've also added ipv6 support you may need this if you have things like federal mandates or an internal requirement that says we got to support ipv6 you do need to contact servicenow support to opt-in okay this isn't something you can turn on by yourself those of you that know the lingo it's a maint only plug-in so reach out to servicenow support and they can turn that on for you the old scripting apis are deprecated we will not be maintaining or modifying them in any way they're still functional we're not forcing you to upgrade but if you have the opportunity it's recommended that you upgrade to the new apis as well we've also added support for scim skim stands for system for cross identity management if you're not familiar and i'd heard about it but i got a better look at it when i did this deck this is standardized way of defining user and group information via http as a client for example if a user were created or updated in servicenow it tells the other systems like workday zoom or your crm and it gives you a common format to do users and groups in one payload or paginated payload if you need well very cool i want to look more into this i could i'd like to explore it now servicenow has had a graphql api for a while graphql is good a newer version of rest it's the next generation of api for interchanging data between systems we've supported it for a few releases and we've added a streaming directive to tokyo to improve the interaction time with the system so it's no longer necessary to fetch the entire payload before displaying the information on the screen you may have been using the at defer directive this is a little bit better approach for that in an effort to make upgrades even easier and quicker we've added something called upgrade plans this provides a simple planning and management of applications and customizations when you're upgrading on multiple instances which i think most of us do oh at least once a year you simply build and publish these plans on your dev instance and then you consume them on test and uit and prod they're really just like scoped apps that keep that configuration and the information about your skip changes and all this stuff they go they get into the app repository and then when you get to the next instance you install them so again no update sets it's all done through the app repository we're moving in that direction uh we do have a dedicated video we're going to be doing a deep dive on upgrade plans later in august of this year but wait there's one more thing there's some of you may have heard this announcement before already in tokyo we are now supporting es6 plus we're calling this ecmascript 2021 on our platform that means we support many of the modern features from es6 es7 and so on please check the docs closely to know which specific ones are supported for you and if you don't see it let us know if you don't see something you need this is currently an opt-in via the app settings page in the sysap table uh this means it's only available for scoped apps at present not global that's on the roadmap and thank you everyone who provided feedback over the past how many years and basically since we came out with es5 uh this has been one of the most talked about topics on the community email linkedin i got lots of interested in seeing this and potentially we will be upgrading the javascript series to include these features as well all right it's poll time i want to know what your favorite question excuse me your favorite features are from these sections please check one of these off we'll give you about 60 seconds jeremy's going to look for any open questions that he can throw my way to entertain me while we wait for answers absolutely you guys click it's just a click uh let's get some submission um so next question will there be support for ipv6 and discovery or for discovery and i tom as well excellent question not an itom expert i was once back when it was a simpler time yeah i try to avoid the the feature specific i mean one thing that i've mentioned on in other questions um just mention it here we do try to focus on platform features otherwise we would be here for weeks right um we do have lots of great resources out on the dock site and we encourage you to go check those out uh i think in the interest of we we mentioned ipv6 and in the interest of hey if it's a platform feature and you turn it on is itom impacted you know is there something i can do or can i take advantage of it i'd be willing to chase down an answer for this one even though it is a little product specific in this case yeah uh so does the data filtration mean you'll no longer get the 12 records removed by security constraints in your list view without having to add a business rule i have a very long story that would take us over time on that one short answer is no you will still see that the goal is to get rid of that to make it a pre query effectively a before business before query business rule kind of thing that's where we would like to get this is one step in that journey i should have mentioned that in the in the slide the data filtration is a v1 release so more stuff coming another great question thanks chuck will next experience dashboards replace pa dashboards great question i will find out the answer for that unless you have any input on that jeremy i do i have some input right because your pa dashboards are built in ui 16 uh using your traditional dashboard dashboarding capabilities i would assume that we will move into that space i mean today you can build um uh dashboards within uib that use your your your pa your analytics right you don't have to just run static reports you can do both so we've got support for that so i would assume that would be the the place that we're moving um once we have you know it's like everything else in servicenow and service portal came around cms stayed around for a while same thing with next experience you're gonna see portals stay around for a while so no dates no sun setting so you're not hearing that from anyone today so i would continue to though to look in the next experience um to start building some of those dashboards out for for your folks yeah i would i would also say that this is somewhat persona context based as well workspaces right now are really designed for the agents the fulfillers the people that i said earlier eat sleep and breathe in servicenow as their main job if you want to target those people you put a dashboard together with visualizations in that environment if you will that user experience if your core people are the admins going through itom and configuring mid servers and different audience right you've got your developers designers then perhaps a ui 16 dashboard is more or next gen dashboard i should say is is more appropriate so you've got different people looking at different panels or insights or or panes of glass into the system so there's no reason why you couldn't do both strategically speaking yes workspaces next experience is the future yeah and some great news from star lord is that there are new few features in app engine studio in tokyo called workspace builder that's going to let you easily configure your workspace homepage dashboards which you know we're calling them landing pages home homepage dashboards we'll throw around all the terms but uh but that's good news thanks star lord appreciate that all right let's check out our poll yeah oh we engine automation and the platform and peruse through there learn what it's like explore some of these things go hey i saw this in the docs i want to try that on turn on this plug-in for data filtration or whatever it is and and explore and learn then when you get to the time when you're going to upgrade your organization's instance you've already played and practiced and polished up your
