Leveraging Map Studio for Workplace Service Delivery

Import · Jul 20, 2022 · video

hello everyone so welcome uh for our indoor mapping webinar i'm sam and i've been hosting today's session all right so just a safe harbor notice um any uh product related um content that we'll be sharing today uh any forward-looking statement is under safe harbor notice of course uh just pointing that out even though we're gonna talk about a product that already exists so today uh today's session is focused on workplace indoor mapping i'll be demonstrating how you can create your indoor maps uh but then there will be a follow-up session in september and showing you how you can actually use this map in workplace service delivery so uh keep it uh keep it in your calendar and excited to have you there so uh i'm sam i'm a workplace i'm work i'm working for workplace service delivery a senior outbound product manager uh i joined servicenow over a year ago through the acquisition of napwise which is the technology that has been re-platformed and is now called workplace indoor mapping super excited to be uh showing you the product today and i'll hand it over to my colleague elizabeth who will be monitoring the chat today yes hi everyone so i'm elizabeth i'm also part of the outbound product management team for wsd i came from the same background as sam as i came from mapwise the the software that was has been re-platformed and we are both based in northern france and please make sure you post any question in the chat and i'll be monitoring it and responding to any questions that you might have during this presentation thank you elizabeth all right so please stay on mute uh there will be a q a session at the end of the presentation however since we're doing a live demo today i'll be pausing to make sure i can answer your questions so that you don't feel lost uh feel free to introduce yourself when you're asking questions and we like to know who people are uh the session is recorded today and will be posted on youtube in our community portal after the session uh and you will also be asked for a short survey at the end we appreciate your your feedback so before we start with the demo i just wanted to provide a little bit of context so uh the evolution of workplace service delivery and mapping so it all started in 2021 with uh the uh the the partnership and the integration of mapped in which was a third-party provider on a required a separate license uh and that is why in september 2021 this year uh we made the acquisition of map wise to have that indoor mapping feature uh built in the product so we re-powered formed the product for the past few months and as of may 5th we released uh workplace indoor mapping uh and it's now available for users on the desktop and coming on the mobile native uh for september so today what we'll cover i'll be showing you what the map looks like in workplace service deliver delivery from an employee perspective and then we'll jump over to map studio to see how we can create uh an indoor map so we'll go by creating campus buildings and floors we'll import floor plans and then we'll configure a map view i'll explain when we get there uh we'll uh go through the key elements to to consider uh when creating an indoor map uh the available resources that you can mostly find on our community portal and then we'll go through a q a uh question so before we start i'd like to to have a quick poll and to know how many of you have started using our indoor mapping application that helps us uh know uh where you guys stand uh in terms of knowing the product if you're total beginners or or if you're already familiar so i see a lot of interests some of you have already started using the products great okay awesome so approximately 20 have already started and 55 uh plan to do so in the next few months great all right so we'll go ahead with uh with the the demo uh do you have any questions uh on the context around indoor mapping before we start elizabeth do you see any questions in the chat no questions so far i'm just letting everyone know that the recording will be available after the session with the link posted in the chat all right okay let's start then all right so we'll start with the employee experience so once the map is created uh how what do users see so this is what we will start with so it starts with the employee portal uh in browse workplace and we have approximately four different places where the map is currently available this will be improved this will be extended in terms of use cases but that's what's available as of today so the first place where the map is available in the employee portal of ws of workplace service delivery is in the location directory so the link the location directory has all of the different sites in workplace delivery and all of the different maps that are available to users you do have a map view here and you can see the different uh campuses that have been created so let's click on the demo campus here for instance and you can see two uh buildings so that's what users will be able to see several options are available from the location directory the first one when you click on a point of interest is to raise an issue so you can just click on any resource whether it's a room or fire extinguisher any resource of the map and just raise a case and then continue with the form just say i don't know something is broken and then the workflow gets triggered to get it fixed for instance so that's one of the that's one of the use cases available directly from the location directory the second one is wayfinding so we'll do that together so let's say i'm in building b for one and directions let's say i want to go from to a another building second floor for instance and then it takes me so this is my point of departure takes me to the stairs then down when i click when i click on the connector and then to my destination you do have time and distance available by default what's also available is the accessible modes as you can see here if i go back to the second floor which might which was my point of departure um you it would take us to the stairs now if i click on accessible and that's available by default it automatically takes me to the elevators of course and then down to my destination so those are called direction modes by default uh default and accessible are available but within map studio which is the back end of the mapping component you're able to create as many direction modes as possible so bicycle anything relevant to your campus as of course you can see here we do go from one building to another it's not only indoor uh wayfinding so that's for um the location uh directory the second place where you can currently uh have the map use the map is the reservation module of course so when you click on a new reservation you can configure a map view and then once you zoom in you can select the building and then you can by navigating on the different floors have the available spaces that can be booked in green and then any space can just be clicked on added and then next and and so on for reservation that's the second place where the map is currently available for end users the third place if we go back to browse workplace is case management so submit a general request the map is also made available there so if there's something wrong in the building you do have here the option of finding that particular space directly on the map so you can select it here just select the building where for which a map is of course configured so we'll go with building a here on floor one for instance and then the map will appear and then you'll be able to select an asset on the map select the space and then continue filling the form and then the last place the map is available for now is move management to request a desk change same thing just click here on the feature and then you do have the map available so if you want to go from one place to another place in the building the map is made available for you so that you can quickly identify which space is best for moving and then boom any questions so far so i see a few questions that could be interesting to respond to live there's a question about is the wayfinding available on mobile and what is available on mobile for the mapping absolutely so the the wayfinding is available on mobile today uh as a responsive feature uh meaning it's just a webview uh it will come natively uh as of the august september it's actually august but dependent on tokyo so available september with our tokyo family release but it's currently already available as a responsive feature and another question is about is the route live uh meaning will it change as we move forward well what changed the the route so i set my about from point a to point b and as i move forward does it move with me so does it follow you yeah okay so it doesn't it doesn't by default follow the user as there's no indoor positioning so there's a big difference between indoor mapping and indoor positioning mapping is just the map of the building the floor plan is covered and digitized and indoor positioning is actually the technology enabling a system to know where a user is gps doesn't work inside buildings for several reasons uh walls and ceilings uh tend to block the signal uh and we don't know on which floors uh on which floor users are on so we can't use the gps inside a building however you do have third-party technologies uh available on the market right now so it can either be wi-fi it can be li-fi it can be magnetic field uh bluetooth i mean you have a lot of different technologies that provide that x y and z and the blue dot on the map uh we have an integration planned for 2023 on the roadmap when indoor atlas but as of now we provide uh the indoor mapping and we'll we will always only provide indoor mapping we'll just enable uh customers to actually link the map with a third party provider of their uh of their choosing perfect well maybe one last question before we move on um in the map view is it possible to search for a user meaning when i make a reservation if i can look for another user using the map in the map yes of course yes so it's it's uh it's not uh it has nothing to do with the with the map itself uh that's a wsd reservation feature where you can actually search for a user uh based on two separate things either their uh reservation the reservation they made so you can search near someone based on their reservation or based on their workplace profile so if they have been assigned a permanent seat in the building then you can search for that user um directly in the map view perfect thank you very much sam and i see that someone has their hand up alexis did you have some question if you could come after me maybe two people with their hands up but no one's coming off mute i don't know if they can so just to ask the question in the chat and we'll move on and i'll make sure to respond go ahead go ahead alexis i'm sorry i just found the mute section um when you're in the location directory i noticed that there was a different view called cards what is that and what does that look like so that's once yeah once again so that's that's uh that comes with the wsd so it just it's just a card of uh of the different campuses uh that's all it's the opposite of the map you have is the visual part where you can see your campus and the card view is just it's just a card okay it's not it's not even configured in my uh demo instance but you can add a picture to it if you want to make it look nicer uh but yeah it's just a card okay it's a list view yeah okay so my my question is do you have um and i don't know if you've shown it yet where you have the users on the right hand side when you're wanting to move people around as maybe a planner and you can drag and drop users into the different space that appear to be available you know based on like maybe having a green dot or something showing that that that space has not been utilized yet okay yes so that's that's a whole nother product that we're launching for uh november called uh so it's it's what it's part of space management it will use the map um however it is not the demo today at all as we're showing today how we can create uh a map view but yes i will have the possibility of using the map to actually position teams uh by using a drag-and-drop feature uh within workplace service delivery this is planned for for this year i just don't have the visuals to show it to you thank you appreciate it anything else no we can we can just continue looking at the time we can perhaps continue and any other questions we can add into the chat and then get back to the next topic all right thank you so we'll go now with the live demo so that was just where the map is integrated and how end users can currently see the map will now go on the admin side and how you can create the map and digitize and keep them up to date um so you'll have to install two different plugins uh so indoor mapping and workplace indoor mapping to to bind the map with uh with um wsd workplace service delivery so let's go into the application indoor mapping and you can see here you do have map studio and then the list of different values so the most important uh the most important part of this application is map studio all the other values are just style values used by map studio so we're not going to get into details today we'll just go to map studio to create our map before we start just so you know you can and you can follow creating a map is that's three different uh parts the first part is creating the building structure so it's creating a building a campus and different floors the second part will be importing data so actually importing your floor plans in the platform and then the third part will be creating a view and the view is just setting a map and saying okay i want employees to be able to see uh the desks and the walls and everything in my building and maybe i want maintenance teams to see only the technical um id the technical rooms for instance so a view is a set of data that that we want to just that we want to display for some users uh so that's the third part so building structure importing data and then creating a view so we'll start with uh just creating the building structure so once you're on map studio you can go ahead and click on get started you'll use uh enter the address so we'll go with united states campus name can say webinar tests for instance address we'll go with new york for instance so you can be as precise as you want we'll just go i don't have a specific address in mind so i'm just just going to point me somewhere in new york then continue so the name of my building will go with building one for instance once again a campus can be several buildings or just one building if you only have one and then we'll save so i have my campus created webinar tests and then i have one building okay that's pointed somewhere uh irrelevant in new york so i can make sure that the boundary of my building is is correct so i can extend to say okay all of this is my building for instance that's just identify where the building is uh on the map i can add a several a second building so i can go with building number two in with new york david should point me to the same location where i can go with this is the building number two for instance all right so i can see this is my second building boom so now i have two buildings this doesn't need to be super precise so now i have one campus and i have two different buildings available for my building structure now when i get to my building i can add the different floors so i can say okay here i have floor number one and then i can add floor number two so i have two floors here and this is where i'm going to upload the the data okay so campus is here i'm at the campus level then i have my two buildings and then within each buildings i have the different floors and this is where i can upload uh my data so that's how we create the building structure and then you can always go back to the overview to see what it looks like so right now we don't have uh how we don't have any data we can see that we have building here building one and building two available before we move on to importing data any questions on the building structure creation elizabeth do you see anything in the chat so just if you could confirm which kind of files the just to rename the files that can be imported yeah we're getting there so exactly okay so that was just creating the building structure campus buildings floors now that that now we're going to import data that's phase two of creating your indoor maps uh two different formats that we currently accept uh cat files dwgs or dxf for instance and uh pngs what we call raster files okay we of course recommend using cat files as pngs or flat files they're just images so we're not able to retrieve any data from uh from pngs we just display an image on on the global map um with cat files the cad file actually contains data for points of interest the walls of the building i mean the building structure anything can be styled and retrieved automatically directly using map studio which is why we recommend cad tiles but we do go with raster files as well if you want to import i don't know maybe a logo or trees around your building that's also a possibility as you can see we use the world map to display to display the indoor maps so you can actually also add data on at the campus level so you can add a tree here maybe a restaurant here maybe a subway around the building and draw directions for wayfinding with those areas uh so that's also a possibility and it can be useful to have pngs uh maybe to add uh to add yeah logos or trees or parking lots or or whatever you see relevant for the buildings we recommend catch files other questions nope okay so right now it's one well maybe one specific question if you have existing data in wsd when you open up map studio does the information show directly once since you have nothing created does it show no not at all so indoor mapping is a separate application okay so you have workplace service delivery where you might already have data imported then indoor mapping is a separate application so you won't find anything in indoor mapping as you haven't created any maps and door mapping is just for the map creation but there's a binding that can be done and that's actually the topic of uh our next webinar of september 28th is how to push the data from indoor mapping to workplace service delivery and if you already have data in workplace service delivery how you can bind the the map with the existing data so that you don't have to redo everything that's it's possible to to create the map afterwards another question may be uh does servicenow looking into the ability of creating floor plans for for specific customers are we going to offer a service of creating or revamping floor plans not at the moment we recommend partners uh for for that not not uh but we also i i don't have the i can't say yes or no really at the moment i know we uh we don't have the expertise for now will it come in the future i don't know but for now we don't plan on providing cad files but we do have partners that you can work with that's that's the statement as of today all right let's go with the uh with the import then so once you're here you can just click on upload file and then on my desktop i have a file example you can just open it the name won't be seen by anyone okay the name is just internal you can just save and it will import so i'm not gonna i'm not gonna go in through the import because it might take a few minutes we'll go into uh oh maybe i can configure and i'll show you the result uh on another instance so once it's imported you do have here uh the uh the preview of what your file looks like okay and your first step is to edit the geo reference so editing the geo reference means you need to position the building on the global map uh so that it's at scale and that's important for several reasons and mostly for uh well first of all because it looks nicer when it's properly aligned with the building on the global map and secondly if the building is at scale then the time and distances for wayfinding are actually accurate uh so here here it's it's it's way too small so if i do wayfinding to go from uh desk a to desk b it's going to take me maybe two seconds when in fact the building is is a lot bigger and it should in fact maybe take me two minutes so it's important to align at the building so here it's it's a fake building it's not aligned with uh with the it's not the same shape but uh if you import your building it should be the exact same shape and then you align it and then just save once that's done so you you've positioned your your building that's step one then you're going to select uh the the layers so what you want to display on your map so you do have here a preview a layer preview so you have the building outline so you say yes this i want people to see then you also have the desks yes you do want people to see this inaccessible areas maybe you don't want to show this you don't have to click on it you have the rooms so of course we want users to see rooms and then there's a terrace so here you select the visual elements that users are are going to see on your map and then you select place type place types have two different purposes the first one is the style and the second one is to categorize your layers so here for building we have a building um place type so it will maybe have the stroke and gray and maybe the background color would be white for instance then there is a furniture place type for rooms we do have a room place type do i have room yes i do and then i can do outdoor i can go with this one for instance and you see here i was telling you earlier map studio is the most important component of indoor mapping and then you do have different values that can be set layer types are are part of them so you can add the instance level configure your layer types add new ones customize for your own needs and they will be used by by map studio once that's done you do the same thing with texts or blocks depending on how your cad file is created and that's for points of interest and that's what's extremely interesting uh with with autocad is that you don't have to create all of your points of interest manually as you would with a png you can retrieve them directly from your from your cad file so it's a little bit of config but it's all automatic afterwards so you can then select the points of interest you want your users to see so we won't do them all but let's do offices for instance so offices are on the office are in the room uh layer and i text i just want to copy whatever text is on the cat file i want it copied directly on my map and then i have a place type in the place type much like layer type categorizes points of interest and styles them with the proper icon for offices for instance same goes for for restrooms my restrooms are on a room a layer i want the text to be copied and then i want a place type for restrooms men women once that's done you're ready to import your file and you just hit start uh import any questions so first i can see a hand that's been raised yes if that person has the possibility of coming off mute yes thank you um so hopefully i asked this correctly um i see that some options are not available there but i'm assuming that it can be built upon so let's say if i had a balcony or a mezzanine or if i had a space within a space or if i had um like a loft that some buildings have where you know you walk up the stairs but it's in the same room space you can pretty much if you're using your cad files whatever is uh structured within the cad comes over but if it's not it can be added within this environment as far as layers would that be correct yes yes yes but that's not what we recommend we recommend for the cad file to have the master data and the reason is that let's say you want to update and maintain your maps it's always easier if everything is in the cat file because if you start making manual changes on your map then the next time you import the cat file maybe you lose some of those changes so we recommend to have everything structured in your cat file and anything that's in your cat file really anything that you mentioned as long as it's on a layer uh and has text will appear in the system and you'll have the possibility to uh to to import it or not so if i wanted to move away from cad because maybe i don't have enough uh cad engineers um and i wanted to maintain uh the growth within the company within servicenow is that possible we don't we don't recommend it because it's a lot of manual i mean if your map doesn't change it it's not an issue okay you do have all of the data imported and yes you can make you can add desks you can remove stuff from directly using the view editor the style editor and uh and in map studio you can do that uh but if tomorrow everything changes you're going to have to re-import a cat file anyway that's why we recommend having uh having the master data on cad thank you other questions someone else has the the hand up alexis yes just to be clear when you say that all of the um structure and i believe information needs to be imported from the cad file does that also include the space ids that we will be mapping associates to so that would be a la have to be a layer on each cad file as we import it we can't add space ids to the map after import no no no that's no what we need is the name of the point of interest so uh if uh for instance uh desk b22 okay uh and then that desk once it's created it will be pushed on wsd and you have the space table and you can change uh data there but whatever you want users to search for should be on the cat file yes the name of the point of interest so instead of desk 2 if we have cubicle number 8.8.189 that could be the name on the cad file that's also the space id but something has to be in the cad file in order to import to have anything there yes and we recommend having the right name on the cat file because then if you have to change it so if it's a technical id you have on your cat file and you then change it uh later on every time you're going to re-import the cat file you're going to have to redo the manual changes so that's why we recommend having uh on the cat file the the proper uh name but we just don't have the users that have the cad um software or um knowledge to make changes in there with some legacy cad files that we want to import and use from there um so i'll just have to kind of figure out a way around that we right for that use case we really recommend maybe going to a partner to update uh the cash files and that's that that could be an option once again it's not that the system doesn't allow it i'm just thinking project management and i think six months from now you're gonna perhaps regret it okay thank you another question that's coming in that you may have already answered partially to sam is if i have a cad file i have a lot of technical information like pipe circuits and all the technical stuff on it what what can i do because i don't want my users to be able to see it but it's on my cad file remove it so uh we have a document i was gonna come to this after uh the demo we have a document that's called uh cad guidelines uh that is that are available on our community portal and we have a set of different uh rules for uh fast and effective import so i think i downloaded them it's available on our community portal and you and you have do's and don'ts what you should do uh the layers that you should uh that you should remove the size of the file uh really the do's and don'ts uh to make sure that you have a smooth uh import it's all there and if it's if you're talking about a few layers like three or four uh that you wanna that you wanna ignore that's okay as you can see when i imported my file i ignored a few layers uh one actually but i could have done several now if you're talking about having a massive file uh and with with several heavy layers that you don't need then you might just wanna delete uh rather than uh then just import something that's gonna impact loading times it's gonna impact a lot of a lot of stuff so we don't recommend um we don't recommend that so remove them as much as you can of course and maybe last question before moving on can you talk more about the google maps that's being used so we're not using google maps uh we're using uh i'm i'm assuming you're talking about the uh i'm assuming you're talking about the background um the search for the address as well when it's oh okay the api yes so it's an api it's a google api address api that's available uh but you do have here the properties it can be deactivated uh if uh if needed replaced with another system even uh that's that's possible it's available by default but if it causes an issue there's way of customizing that and maybe one last question from alexis who's raised their hand again for another question before we move on sure sorry um i did want to ask about assigning assets to spaces i did notice there were some fire extinguishers in there but is there also the possibility to take other assets that are within the servicenow system and apply them to the spaces so we are currently working on asset management uh that's on the roadmap but for now uh assets uh are just points of interest so like the the points of interest that i am that i imported doesn't matter if it's a room or if it's a fire extinguisher right now they're just points of interest but we are working yes with uh asset management it's on the roadmap for now team is working on it okay thank you yeah i think we can keep going and the next questions will come during the next post okay uh so we created the building structure campus buildings floors we imported our floor plans so we did a cat file uh png is pretty much the same except there's nothing to configure just geo reference and then hit import so here this is what we imported uh it's just just i didn't just imported two kinds of points of interest so we have the restrooms and a few uh offices here uh but you also have the possibility of manually creating points of interest so if you go here so floors and floor plans was where we were now we can go to places within our building and we can create new points of interest so i can either create a pin or a shape a polygon or a room let's let's do just a quick pin you just click and place it forever and then just go with i don't know meeting room two for instance okay name is always a unique title and then place type to have the proper icon and then i can just save and then my meeting room my point of interest is automatically created so that's the place type if i'm not happy with it once again at the instance level i can customize the icon i can customize the the place type uh i can turn this into a polygon if i want i can switch to put it to a shape and then change the shape i mean all of that is is doable here directly using uh using uh map studio so that's for the best for the points of interest uh once again if you create points of interest manually they're not reported back on the on the cat file they're just on the system um and then for wayfinding the last step of your map creation is to create what we call directions so to enable the wayfinding feature on the location directory we need to create a direction graph to be able to go from one room to another so it's basically drawing lines and hallways just saying where people can walk so we can just do this so it's it's a manual process but it's a one-time thing once it's done it's done and then just this is where people can walk for instance and that's it and then just save and then the system will the points of interest will jump to the closest line for for wayfinding so you can just do this boom it will just jump and compute the shortest route to the destination uh and that's also uh available here through the direction engine so you just draw lines and then you can customize if there's a small step here and you know that people using wheelchairs can't go through here you can deactivate the segment for the accessible mode you can make it one way you can activate it deactivated if there's a security check you can add some extra time to make sure that time and distances are accurate all of that is really customizable here in the direction engine any questions before we move to the directions i sync with the view editor see we can continue for the for the for the minute yep all right so that's that's done actually your map is fully created you create the building structure you imported your data maybe you added a couple points of interest that weren't on your cat file and then you created your direction so your map is now created last step is to go into the view editor uh and to configure uh the the view so this will be extremely uh powerful soon right now workplace service delivery can only have one map but soon uh workplace service delivery will be able to have several maps depending on who the user is so we'll be able to have one map view for employees maybe one for maintenance team maybe one for visitors and i'll be able to choose the content that i uploaded and say okay so for this employee view for instance i want them to see only floor one and maybe i only want them to see certain layer types i don't want them to see an accessible uh these two for instance and maybe i don't want them to see any of the technical rooms uh and i get the stairs and then save okay and then maybe for for visitors i'll choose only public content for my building and then for maintenance team maybe only technical information uh and that's in the view editor that's where i'll be able to fine tune and decide what i want my users to actually see once that's done you hit save this style your map is ready and ready to be shipped to workplace service delivery any questions so we have a question here sam can everything in map studio be captured in update sets to move between instances yes so um i actually uh published a blog about this this very morning so it's available on community uh so there's an update set to export your campus so you can move your your map from one instance to another and how are points of interest different from spaces so spaces that's the term used in workplace service delivery so once to all of the points of interest that we created that we created with our maps will be in the space table so from uh from a mapping perspective we call them uh points of interest we call them places we call we call them pois uh and in workplace service delivery they're referred to as spaces or rooms so there's there's also a uh on on community there's also a blog uh a powerpoint that we created uh that is indoor mapping and terminology and sometimes it's just lingo in the indoor mapping uh a world but uh it's it's it's a space it's the same thing and i believe there's no more announced questions in the chat if there's anything i missed please uh are we at the q a session do we have time for some a few questions yeah or do you have some more i just yeah i'm just gonna finish the uh showing uh the presentation and then we'll get to the q a perfect yeah all right so key things to to consider uh before engaging into uh indoor mapping so indoor mapping is indeed a separate application however it is only available within workplace service delivery or for safe workplace pro uh customers uh and cannot be used within any other uh servicenow product for now um we recommend that your floor plans are up to date and that's something that you actually uh check before importing anything once the data is in the system uh if you notice uh later down the deployment that the data is not up to date then you're just going to add extra work to your deployment process that's something you should definitely check before importing anything and we started during this session to talk about it uh but cat file or raster file need to be reformatted uh you can't just import any kind of uh of cad file or a raster file in the system uh because you might encounter issues if the file is too big for instance uh or that the result won't be uh will be what you expect which is why we recommend that you follow the guidelines so i've added here a few uh resources that can be interesting they're all on our community portal uh so you have getting started with your indoor mapping project it will show you the different skills that you need uh the relevant stakeholders what phases you will go through there's also a map studio guide that's also available on our community portal that's just what i did for you today a click by click um it's it's a powerpoint presentation and it shows you map studio how you can use it and how you can uh do everything that i showed you today and more uh there's then there's the file guideline that i already showed you and the raster file guideline as well that i already showed you and we really once again uh strongly recommend that you follow these uh to get the best possible results and to automate most of your map creation process once again we have the upcoming webinar on september 28th and that's where we'll show once your map is created how you push the data and how you get all of those points of interest in the space table for instance and how you get that map in the location directory and the reservation management module uh so that will be on september 28th and yes elizabeth we can go ahead with the remaining questions so uh alexis would like clarity on can you confirm again what is a a manually created point of interest versus an imported one so an automated point of interest let me go yes let me go back to map studio so you see here uh so let me go back so i created so my campus my different buildings and then when i went to floors and floor plans within building one i imported this file okay when i clicked on configure here i had a text part to my file okay and i decided to click on office and restrooms and i gave a place type so an icon and i hit start import that's all i did and this is what i retrieved on my map so the two restrooms that were present on the file and the offices so those are automatically created from a workplace from uh from my cat file now this one here i created by hand i drew manually okay so if i import an image if i import a png i won't have any data on it i'll just have an image and i will have to go into places and i will have to say okay so now i have to draw and define all of my points of interest so maybe here i have a meeting room so i have to draw it manually like this adjust it and say this is meeting room b this is the title and so on and save and i will have to do that for all of the points of interest i want my users to see manually using um the places editor here so that's the difference between manual creation so if it's one that's okay if it's a few even ten that's okay but if you have several floors with hundreds of points of interest uh i hope yeah i believe you can imagine it's a lot of time having to create them one by one i don't see any other question coming in currently in the in the chat however the question earlier about the the pipes and the technical room showing existing in the cads file and then importing them into map studio is it possible to still have them have them visible because like some customers would like to remove those from their files but some obviously in the chat mention that they would like to keep those features of course of course whatever you want to be visible on your map should appear uh we don't we don't think it's only uh desks to meeting rooms and walls and that's that's just an example if in your use case you believe it's interesting to have more technical information then please have it on the on the cat file i'm just i'm just i just want to state that for end users the clearer the better and if your floor plan is too technical sometimes it will uh it will be harder for end users to actually understand the map which is why we recommend we recommend to remove unnecessary information now if the if it's relative if the the information is relevant then it should definitely be on the cat file it's customizable so you can really add whatever you need and customize layer types place types direction modes connectors connectors or elevators they're all of it is customizable this is just a set of examples any other questions maybe you could go over since we've got a bit of extra time and there's no more questions coming in there's a question about the penalty in the direction what does that stand for and how is it taken into account when the the wayfinding is uh requested sure so let's go to the directions so we created uh a few uh lines segments so the penalty that's to add extra time so what happens with the system when you draw lines is that so as i told you the building is at scale okay it's on a global map so we know the exact scale and we know this distance here and how long it takes to cross it okay because we're in walking mode and it's it's it's the standard is i don't know maybe to go from here to here it's 30 seconds okay uh if let's say there's a security check or for some reason we know at the interest it takes longer to enter the building for whatever reason you can add seconds to this segment to to reflect it uh to reflect it on the time in instant and the time and distance on the location directory so i can say okay here it doesn't take just 30 seconds to cross but maybe it takes 200 seconds and it will just add time to the location directory here if we go back if i go to the map view here so if i do direction from here to here you see here you have time and distance while i'm adding seconds it will just increase uh this time we've also had customers who used it to uh to uh to make sure that uh for instance customers to make sure that employees use stairs instead of uh elevators uh since the system it is always looking for the shortest route uh adding a penalty to the to the stair to the elevators uh while the stairs will always be the closest the shortest route so the system will always redirect people to stairs instead instead of elevators unless they're in accessible mode that's another way that some of our customers have used it that's it i don't see any more questions in the in the chat if you do have any questions we'll give you one or two minutes to quickly yeah i'll quickly show um the the cad guidelines because i feel this is a a big part um so the the logic with your with your cat file really is to have it sorted uh nicely uh so the main thing to remember is to have your data on separate layers uh if you have everything merged on the same layer then you're not going to be able to sort through the information you're not going to be able to style it differently you did see during the demo that we're using that we're selecting layers and applying a layer type a style to it if it's all on the same layer you're not going to be able to do that same thing for points of interest if they're not on different text elements if they're not different text elements we're not going to be able to actually uh style them with the the proper icon they're all going to have the same one which is why it's important that everything is separated nicely then you have a set of best practices uh pulley lines for those of you that are familiar a little bit with cat with cat files if the lines are not closed then we don't know what the shape of the room is so that's another thing that is extremely important and then the export so you have the exact formats that we support for cad files the versions as well and the size uh limit for for the import and we have the same for for raster file but it said so it says it's just for design purposes anything else a question on do those rules you mentioned about the the wayfinding adding the penalties can we do that for the different modes or is it always the same uh for for each segment yes for the different in the different modes absolutely and you can get creative with the notes another question about this service now or will servicenow offer formal training for this plug-in if the if they wanted to bring extra people of the team to understand how this is done so we could this is something we'd have to discuss with uh with uh our uh with our team uh it's not a plan as of today uh but uh it might come uh later down the road yes we're right now uh providing uh for customers that are early adopters we do have a product success team that is here to help we're providing in these sessions we're providing a lot of material and content available on our community portal we do have a lot of recordings so for now this is what we plan but uh maybe uh in the near future if relevant uh we have we also we have a few more questions in the chat but we also someone have someone with a hand up so if we don't get to answer with the chat we can always get back later by email but let's hear the person that has the the hand up if you're gonna mute lillian hi elizabeth thank you uh just real quick just to reiterate are you saying that in the now learning you don't have on something on demand you do okay so directly to that sure so it just came out like like i think two weeks ago but yeah there's a now learning uh training for indoor mapping yes we'll provide yeah i'll add it uh i'll add it to the document true another question sam is can a manager go in the map studio and mark some rooms and directions as blocks so not active if they're under maintenance uh can what can a manager go into map studio and make some rooms and directions uh unavailable non-active yes yeah absolutely so when you click on a direction you can deactivate it so as active yes or no and of course this is immediately taken into account when within seconds yes when it's propagated within seconds on the uh on the yeah we're literally seconds uh on the user side perfect anything else before we go that's it on the chat side all right well thank you for joining everyone hope this was helpful and uh hope we see you on september 28th for uh the second part of this session thank you very much thank you bye
