ITOM Governance - Cloud Migration Workspace

Import · Jun 22, 2022 · video

hi everyone this is evans nicholson from technical marketing here at servicenow and today i'm going to talk to you about what's new in the area of itom governance specifically i'll talk about cloud migration but first let's talk about some of the problems the pitfalls that many organizations go through in their cloud migration journey first of all is there too much emphasis on lift and shift sometimes moving things the way they are let's say apples to apples to the cloud doesn't always make sense and secondly when performing assessment planning a lot of times the migration team doesn't include inadvertently doesn't include the right system owners or they simply don't know who they are so not having the right people at the table even if it's a virtual table to to do have these conversations and to do this planning that can lead to inconclusive and rushed assessments there's always the problem with scheduling and tracking which system of record do we want to use to accomplish this and finally when determining a migration plan for a certain set of assets does it make sense to re-host revise re-architect rebuild or replace we call this our disposition and each one of these migration alternatives has different costs associated with them so it's important to understand these with cloud migration workspace one of the things you get is a comprehensive consolidated view now this allows you to sort and report as needed when you're going through these migration processes from within migration waves you have the ability to assign ownership of tasks to individuals or groups this way the right people are involved and they're informed from within the migration task you have the ability to change details on a per item basis so one thing out of a larger group needs to stay on premises for example and then you can also group assets together in a way that makes sense for your organization grouping the migrations together let's talk about itom governance and we'll start with cloud migration now we're looking at the cloud migration workspace which has the next experience ui in the area of itom governance cloud migration planning is the first new feature in the space and that's what's new for san diego along with the workspace this is our overview pane if i go up in here i was just looking at vmware and aws if i click all resources that reloads everything and we can see all of our resources all the servers broken out by various categories by class things like that very useful information to get an idea of everything that you have that you might want to migrate so we're looking at a lot of numbers here but really the idea behind this is we need to get the information together to make an educated decision about where or if we need to migrate to the cloud okay so we can work within the single source of record on the servicenow platform with different application owners to work through all this and track it of course and i'm going to show you that through these different pages so as you can see over here we're talking about migration waves we're going to get everything planned out and we're going to put them in waves so we can track this and not do it all at once so what you're seeing here we looks like we have about 11 things going in q2 and then q1 just a couple of a couple of assets to migrate so that's what that's all about let's scroll down to the bottom we can see our disposition and i'll talk about that in a minute but you can see the breakout of that and over here you can see resources broken out by target architecture and cloud providers but let's talk about resources a little more in depth and let's go over to the list view here we've got all of our servers but let's head down to task and i'll show you one example here's all of our migration tasks and the waves that they're going in where they're going right who's assigned to this this task and the list of contacts i'm going to jump into this and let's take a closer look at one of these tasks so in this task we're migrating all of the oracle e-business suite all of the objects contained in that and we're planning it out now as i mentioned we're getting all the stakeholders together we're planning this with the different groups and you can see you know hints of that over here in the activity uh looks like there was an architectural review that you know needed to happen and then the the service operations admin changed it from re-architect to re-hosting okay and then it was approved by the application admins now let's head over to the hardware requirements because this to me is really the meat of this we're getting all this information about these vms through discovery cpus memory tons of information useful information that you would need to figure out where you can migrate this to the resources on the cloud provider or even if you should migrate it so for instance if you care a lot about disk read and writes you could look at that here cpu percentage things like that we're really getting right sizing right here if you will by looking at all this information that we have so for instance if i see something about this linux server that that scares me a little bit or i want to change it i can go in here and select that i can review the decision on this object within this uh this task i can do that here choose any of these on a per item basis from this page i think that's all the time i have to cover cloud migration workspace part of itom governance for san diego some of the main benefits of cloud migration workspace are you get a comprehensive view of all assets to be migrated as well as ones already in the cloud you get the ability to smartly plan and track migration tasks and waves you can review performance stats and device configurations to help with assessment decisions you can assign ownership of tasks to individuals or groups and you can plan moves by grouping or one by one for more information on cloud migration workspace or all things itom check out the main product page thanks a lot and i hope to talk to you soon
