about some new updates to the cmdb workspace and um i was actually looking at the release notes so it's updated on may 5th 2022 um part of the swath of updates to a lot of the store applications and i was looking at the release notes you can see it here behind my head we'll pull up this other app versions the know what's new is they've added an attestation module for accessing the data attestation dashboard and the data attestation tasks and i was like huh that's interesting i didn't know these existed i'm not really sure if they existed i checked my pdi versus the one i use at work the one i use at work was updated it has this new attestation feature that one of my pdi does not have this attestation feature so i'm going to walk you through what i found out and the way i'm going to walk through it first is we're going to go to the cmdb workspace so i'm going to point out the new feature that's on there but we're not going to go to it yet because we need to do something in order to configure that so i'm going to show you i'll use my pointer here this is the new feature in the workspace and if you hover over it you can see it says attestation okay so that's the new feature what this is is it's tying in some policy work that's being set in cmdb data manager so look on the bottom right we'll scroll down here and you can see i've got a link that's always been there over to data manager so we'll hop over to data manager and i pre-configured a policy so that i could show you what that looks like and the policy is uh just above my head there paul it's under policies there's one of them that's published and that's what i'm going to show you and i'm going to walk you through exactly how i configured that and then we're going to run it so it creates a task and we can go completely or an attestation so i did windows server attestation so the theory here is you're going to say hey i'm going to create a policy for a particular class based on some conditions that it's going to create an attestation task for someone to attest that ci is still accurate and still active and should be in the cmdb right this is key in getting keeping our cmdvs up to date so i named mine windows server attestations i gave it a description i'm having it pulled the managed by group to assign that task to i could have done change approval or support i did manage buy i just want to make sure everything worked in the demo i set a due date of five days in the task due date and here's what's new on this part of cmd database manager is that attestation uh selection option so we always had archive retire and delete this is incredibly useful if you want to keep your scene you have to cmdb up to date but attestation is something new so we can start to turn over some of this to the teams that are responsible for it have them updated a couple other things i did i added a filter so it's going to look for a windows server class it's going to look to see it hasn't been updated before two years ago now you're probably like justin why'd you do two years ago why not 90 days why not 180 days even um i did two years ago because there's only four ci's uh maybe three ci's at this point because i made sure this actually worked before i created it before i recorded this so i did that just to limit the number of stuff that i could see but if i wanted to preview it i can see okay no records matches and you know what the reason why is because i ran this before and um it it went ahead and updated those ci's that are affected so i'm going to change this to one year i'm going to check that and we'll go ahead and run the filter okay 43 records match and that's fine i'm in a demo environment we're not going to hurt anything there's going to be no subflow on this but you can set the frequency for when this runs so it's going to create a scheduled job i'll show you that here in a second this is going to be daily at 1am you could change it anything you want move it from daily to weekly monthly ones or whatever so i'm going to save this because i do need to be able to run this so we'll save and then once you save it you got to preview it um it shows us 43 that we just saw there and i'm going to publish it now if you don't know cmd database cmdb you say that four times fast cmdb data manager there's an exclusion stuff you can do to exclude certain ci's and you're going to see some cool stuff in the workspace when it comes to a testing tvcis so back over in the workspace um i'm going to go ahead and go to that scheduled drop so i'm just going to search for it i'm going to move my head schedule jobs and i want to get to the configuration of those jobs so we'll just go to system system definition schedule jobs now i'm going to search for that windows server so it should have created one in fact i know it created one because it was there earlier and i can see there the server attestation's policy processor and i'm going to cheat and not wait till 1am and i'm going to go ahead and execute that job so it goes ahead as it runs so that's off to the races it's running it's creating tasks i'm going to impersonate someone who's in that group for that assigned to those cis that i was looking at so we're going to go into sandra here sandra i put her in the server support group so hopefully one of those 43 servers is being managed by the server support group if not we could fix that live not really worried about it so we'll have her go over back to the cmdb workspace and uh everything's going to look the same for her now there was another change in cmd workspace um it used to say like seven days of ci activity uh seven days of service activity if you look just above my head they've changed this to recent activity whatever activity so that was another update in this may release but now we finally get to click on this access station button over here on the left and if we click on that button we'll see that there's some tasks created for attestations now the one that i did before the demo before recording this is closed complete and it got assigned to sandra but we'll go ahead and open this new one and so you can see what this looks like now so we've got a little panel there showing we've got 43 to attest to none have been attested or rejected and we're zero percent complete obviously i just created it um the policy is windows server attestations and it gives a short description uh since there wasn't a managed by group it uh did something with a task there but two a couple key things i can do up here in the upper right i can reassign this maybe it got assigned to the wrong group maybe i just want to assign it to myself assign it to another users or i want to send it to somebody else for assignment or i can just go ahead and attest so i'm going to do this for demo purposes we're going to go ahead and test let me move my head again because there's some stuff going on first i want to show you one on this little filter or this little report we see progress we're only part of the way through there is a system property where you can do smart detection of those cis and if they were found by discovery go ahead and auto attest for that task so we don't have to bother the group we see it with discovery we know it's online none of these ci's are eligible i don't have discovery running in our demo environment and then the last thing you can see here i'm going to zoom in and post on this the actions you can take you can attest the ci exists you can reject the ci doesn't exist you can remove a duplicate and mark both of those and it'll follow a process for removing that we can exclude it so it'll omit the ci from attestations in the future and only an admin can actually add it back in there or we can unattest and move the ci back to a not yet reviewed list so those are our options move my head again and we can see all the different ci's that are inside in this particular task now i might want to go ahead and attest to some of these so i'm going to go ahead and check a box next to these and you can see what lights up are these actions here the task for jack exclude or remove duplicates let's keep it simple for the dumbo let's just hit a test and we'll see what that looks like two ci's got it tested if we go back out to our task now uh we should see uh let's close it out we should see that that update percent complete update so let's just close this i couldn't find a refresh button on it earlier so i knew i had to get out of it to go back in okay good so we see you are 4.65 percent complete um just you actually i'm not in the way here you can see the activity uh where it's got a sign of sandra tillman and if she wants to she could still go back in and attest to additional ci's we see our graphic got updated that two have been attested 41 are still in review and if i wanted to take action on those i could if i wanted to open one of these up and actually look at the ci look at the details i go hmm what's this i don't know what this is uh and why it's showing up in the cmdb no wonder sander they want me to go ahead and attach to make sure this is looking so you can still pull up the ci record and look at it and we can do our attestations or rejections or exclusions or our duplicate removal right from this new workspace so that's the may 2022 updates for cmd workspace and this hidden feature that is in the documentation i just didn't see it in the release notes for doing cmdb attestations to do what to keep your cmdb healthy keep it up to date and keep it accurate
