[Music] [Applause] [Music] hey everyone it's justin thanks for watching hopefully you just finished the previous seven videos showing my first experience doing ui builder um in this video i want to give you some closing thoughts and kind of where i think things are going to go from here i'll start with saying that i just absolutely love the new workspaces and experience that servicenow has been releasing or creating if you haven't noticed i love demonstrating them too especially the features and functionality that kind of resonate with me it's interesting after doing this to see under the hood and what goes into making those great experiences right so they're putting some time and effort into that my big aha moment with this framework is that is it astonishingly scalable let me unpack that i walked away with there's about five major phases in configuring these experiences there's the application itself right so your tables your data your security or workflows your automation that's we've been doing for years in service now and that's all still there then you layer on this ui builder you're building the user interface in that particular application like you saw on the video so there's landing pages and pages that people can click on and go to things that make up that experience and a common theme we're kind of seeing from servicenow and their product design is there's usually a landing page with some useful reporting and widgets and those can be clicked through and go to different records or lists then there's usually like a dedicated page for the records themselves where you're going in and seeing related lists and updating things and then there's kind of like a usually a button for let me just get to the list because i don't need reports to know where i need to get to and then if you're lucky in some of these workspaces you have these cool like maps and heat maps that you've probably seen on some of my videos so there's that component of it where you see me kind of creating stuff then there's the data sources themselves of which there seems to be like you can have one to end number of data sources from what i can see so let that sink in for a moment and the traditional ui a page typically read from a single table and then we used various means to pull in related data and your options there were even fairly limited with out some serious scripting and web design know-how on how to do that so that alone like being able to pull in you know information from this table and that table and filter and all that stuff is really neat um then the fun begins with what you saw in videos of adding various components all these really cool things like you know the different lists and separators and um buttons and carousels and calendars i mean the list there's just hundreds of them out there so though each of one of those components has their own configurations their own styling their own events that you could be listening for things or clicking or updating or doing things on so they have their own configuration and then the last thing that hopefully you saw in the videos too is that there's a whole theming component making everything look pretty and look good so that matches your your preference your brand's preference your organization's preference there's that additional layer and not to mention testing like once you get all that configured and do it in testing so my number number one takeaway uh other than my big aha moment is that the learning curve here is high i'm just going to be straight up with you i don't think that's a bad thing i'm not saying it as a negative connotation i had very explicit instructions as part of the lab exercises and i still managed to screw some things up it's probably way too fast in the video for you to see it but i had to go back and like fix things and change things that i did wrong even though i was following the instructions it's definitely not a no or low code experience there were parts of the exercises where i was copying and pasting scripts css json objects that were provided as part of the labs you could highlight them and copy them over and i probably spent 30 minutes on the second challenge before calling it i just couldn't figure it out that involved the use of a data transform for journal notes and my strategy was to kind of see what other workspaces were doing so i was going into some read-only workspaces and saying what did they do to bring in the journal notes and i just couldn't figure it out and after 30 minutes i was like ah maybe another time there's still so much basic stuff to learn in there but i think my message to you is a high learning curve means there's opportunity for specialization so if you can add this to your list of skills and capabilities you'll be an elevated class of admins and developers and people will be looking for that that strength and that skill set i honestly can't wait to see this product um or building tool evolve there's so much potential and so much that's going to happen and servicenow is just doubling down i think you know the tea leaves are really easy to read this is the direction service now is heading and i'm i'm really excited about what happens next in ui builder based on my experience this is going to be on my list of things that i need to stay current on and understanding
