FAQs on App Launcher and Employee Profile
Table of Contents
Employee Profile
- What is the Employee Profile table?
The Employee Profile store application includes a new table that contains information about the employee. This table is called the Employee Profile Table. Admins can sync this table with the sys_user or the hr_user table. Admins can also define which users they want to include in the Employee Profile Table. For example, organizations may have contingent workers included in their Sys_user table but may choose to exclude them from the Employee Profile Table.
- What configuration options are available on the Employee Profile? How can admins make sure personal or sensitive information is not visible on a profile page?
Admins can do the following:
- * Change design elements – These include changing the layout of different sections, defining order, icons, etc.
- Define visibility – These include making fields within each section visible to employees only, managers only, everyone, etc. Also, these can be made available for desktop or mobile views independently.
- Define actionability – These include options such as “view org chart” or “start teams chat”

- Is it required to download the Employee Profile app separately?
Employee Profile is shipped as part of a separate ServiceNow Store application. Upon upgrade to San Diego, organizations will automatically get Employee Profile installed. However, we do have quarterly new releases going out on ServiceNow Store.
We recommend organizations download the latest Employee Profile store app separately with every release, along with the latest Employee Center apps.
- Can we use Employee Profile for making ML-driven content recommendations?
Yes, organizations that are entitled to Predictive Intelligence can use Employee Profile to make content recommendations. They can also use it to fine-tune their AI Search ML model. Refer to the manage Employee Profile AI and ML model product documentation page to learn more.
App Launcher
- How is the App Launcher capability different from adding applications as external links on Employee Center? What is the benefit of using it?
App Launcher functionality integrates with the organization’s single sign-on capability to provide one-click access to applications. It eliminates the need for maintaining a separate dashboard like Okta or Azure AD, which provide a list view of all applications assigned to the employee.
The benefits of using Employee Center’s app launcher functionality include:
- * Provide contextual access to applications as employees browse for help/content: Admins can tag applications to topics based on relevancy. For example, the Payroll topic page can have an ADP application featured on it. This helps employees find related applications as they browse a topic page
- Improve access to relevant applications: Admins can feature applications for employees based on user criteria. Employees can also mark applications as favorites based on their usage. These capabilities improve access to relevant applications for employees.
Ultimately, App Launcher helps consolidate portals, while simplifying access to applications or other portals that the employee may need to use.
- Do we need Integration Hub to use the App launcher?
Since Azure AD and Okta integrations are preconfigured with Employee Center Pro, you do not need any extra Integration Hub license. There are no Integration Hub transactions counted as part of App Launcher usage as well.
- How to integrate with SSO providers other than Azure AD and Okta?
App Launcher framework allows you to integrate with other SSO vendors and sync registered applications. See Integration Hub for the availability of required spokes, actions, and license requirements.
- Can we tag applications that are not part of Single Sign-on, for example, ‘homegrown’ applications? What is the experience with these applications?
Yes. Admins can manually register applications that are not registered in SSO to give one-click access to the applications. They can define user criteria to control the visibility of these applications.
- Are applications visible as part of search results?
Applications are not pre-configured to appear within search results. However, admins can choose to include App Launcher applications as a search source.
- Can we perform analytics on app usage through App Launcher?
Yes. User activity on the App Launcher widget is pre-configured to appear as an event in the User Experience Analytics dashboard.
