hi everyone this is srinivas and into today's demonstration we'll talk about bringing our license and its support on servicenow sam pro so let's get started we'll talk about the concept of bringing our license and the solution overview on sam pro so bring your license is the process of bringing previously purchased on-prem licenses to public cloud platforms like aws and azure so that the organizations can save on the existing software investments this is happening because organizations are moving towards the cloud and they would want to protect the investments for software that that they've made on on-prem and bringing on license provides that particular mechanism to them microsoft for example has got azure apple benefit as a bringing on license feature which enables customers to enable it and hence organizations can just pay for the infrastructure or compute and the operating system cost or the software cost is then managed through the on-prem investments that they have done as you can see here that licenses are shifted towards the cloud now it's it's a little complex here because there are different licensing rules provided by different cloud providers be it aws or azure and uh different publishers like microsoft have got different licensing rules for the same which we'll see in a short while there are different cloud deployment models there is infrastructure as service platform as service and software service now software service is more for sas based applications but on the cloud you will generally find these two which is infrastructure service and platform as a service in infrastructure service the management is divided between the cloud provider and the organization and in platform as a service you can see that only the application and data has to be managed by the organization rest all is managed by the cloud provider now these two are important because there are different licensing rules for infrastructure service versus platform as service it's difficult to manage bring your license because as we just saw there are different deployment models infrastructure service and platform as service with an infrastructure service there is shared host tenancy and dedicated host tenancy a dedicated host is more like a server on the cloud and microsoft and other cloud providers have got uh different licensing rules for the products deployed on these dedicated hosts hence it's important to discover the same the second part is to discover the license types be it bring your own license or license included if it is bring your own license then the organization can apply the on-prem licenses on the cloud if it is licensed included meaning which it is purchased directly by the cloud provider then um those on-prem licenses cannot be applied because uh you you have purchased it directly from the cloud provider and hence it's important to differentiate between these two different license types as we just discussed different products and different publishers have got different licensing rules on various cloud providers for example microsoft windows server has got different licensing rule for azure versus aws and hence a product needs to manage all of them together there is azure hybrid benefit which is a bring your license feature on azure but it offers several risk for example organizations can enable azure hybrid benefit without having adequate on-prem licenses and hence it's important to manage the risk associated with that in addition there are several optimization benefits that azure hybrid benefit provides for example windows server a data center has got dual use rights that is you can use the same license on prem as well as in the cloud and hence all these optimization benefits have to be managed accurately it's not just about cloud it's also about on-prem so organizations need to have a single view of the compliance that is having their on-prem licensing rules as well as the cloud licensing rules show up together so that the organization can determine their license compliance across the hybrid infrastructure and this is very difficult to manage and if you are non-compliant of course the organization needs to have a mechanism so that they can become compliant so these are the several challenges that organizations face while managing bring your license let's see what servicenow sam pro has to offer servicenow sam pro is able to automatically discover the iis and pass resources within infrastructure as service it's able to determine whether it's a shared tenancy or a dedicated nnc host it's automatically able to determine the license type be it license included or bring your license if it is bring your license it's automatically able to apply the different licensing rules provided by different publishers on various cloud providers so for example windows server has got different license and root on aws and azure servers now sampro is able to apply those differently for these two cloud providers servicenow sampro is able to manage the risk associated with azure hybrid benefit or hp it's able to optimally assign the licenses so all those benefits such as dual use rights for windows server addition flexibility for sql server are automatically applied in addition servicenow sam pro is a one-stop destination so that the organization can determine the license compliance across the hybrid infrastructure and hence sam pro is able to apply the on-prem licenses as well as the cloud licenses and provide a single view of license compliance towards the organization and of course if you are non-compliant servicenow sam pro is a workflow engine and it generates uh remediation workflows using which the organization can become compliant so these are several features of bringing our license that servicenow sam pro offers let's go to the solution but before solution let's see what are the features on sam pro in quebec we realized that microsoft is the most deployed product on the cloud and hence we provide support for bringing our license support for windows server and sql server on both aws in azure which includes discovery license compliance as well as uh remediation options in addition there are some charts so that the organization can understand the publishers deployed on the hybrid environment as well as the license type in rome we offer the same but for oracle database for its deployment for azure and aws this includes both infrastructure as a service and platform as service which is aws rds and in san diego we have released the azure by rely savings report which shows the savings that the organization has realized for the azure hybrid benefit deployments on azure the solution starts with discovery we're able to discover the infrastructure as a service platform as service components and once discovered we're able to determine what is the license types be it bring your license or license included and once the license type and the infrastructure is determined then the sam processes like reconstellation cmdb normalization are effectively uh effectively determine the license compliance for those resources deployed on-prem as well as in the cloud and if the organization is non-compliant then servicenow sample automatically generates remediation actions so that the organization can then become compliant so that's the high level solution overview of how sampro provides support for bring your license let's move to discovery so what do we discover for bringing our license we're able to discover the cloud providers azure and aws we're able to discover the infrastructure service components be it share tenancy or dedicated post tenants as we just discussed it's important to discover and differentiate between these two different tenancies because there are different licensing rules applicable for both of them we're able to discover platform as service which includes aws rds and we are able to discover the software installs like windows sql oracle etc we're able to discover the license type this is important because based on the license type the different licensing rules can be applied and of course we need other attributes like the vcpus whether the database has got database options enabled the relationships and the version and addition of the software discovered so that's a high-level view of what we discovered and this is a more detailed view of what we discovered as we know that azure hybrid benefit is a microsoft azure uh feature which enables customers to use the existing windows server licenses on azure and as you can see here that organizations typically enable it without managing and determining if they have enough on-prem licenses to cover for them and hence it's important to discover the license types not only at azure we are able to discover the license type on aws as well you can see here that the usage operation 800 signifies that it's bring your own license and if it's the usage operation is triple zero six it's license included that means that the organization has directly purchased it from the cloud provider and of course you know rds is passed and it's important to discover the the pass resource the software installed on it as well as the license type and on azure side it's important to discover the infrastructure as service as well as the software which is oracle in this case as you can see here that servicenow is automatically able to discover the license types and create key value tags for them servicenow sam is also able to automatically discover the dedicated host infrastructure service components and also the virtual machines that are running on them in addition servicenow is also able to discover the past resources which is rds in this case and also the different databases which are installed on them once all of this is discovered uh customers if using sampro can automatically determine [Music] the software installed record which gives an overview of the software installed the cloud license type whether it's license included or be viable whether it's shared or dedicated tenancy what is a cloud provider and what is a cloud service type which is platform as service or infrastructure service so this is automatically determined once discovery is determined and using these values servicenow sam pro is able to accurately determine the license compliance position after applying the different licensing rules for aws and azure on on on these different cloud providers in terms of data model you can see here that this is the byo data model for microsoft cloud host signifies dedicated host um and uh you can see that it you know the vm is running on this dedicated host so this is that vm and this is the uh the windows server that is running and uh which virtualizes the vm instance and notice that this dedicated host is hosted on the azure or aws data center in fact also notice that the cmdb key value for table is automatically uh added with tags which show the license type which is discovered in terms of oracle the past database is the same dbci cloud database and this is hosted on the azure data center you notice that again here the key values table is used to determine the license type and then the db aura instance shows the discovered values of the oracle database so that's about discovery let's move to a quick demonstration of it notice here that i'm on azure and this is the [Music] vm the vcpus are two in this case and notice here that the azure hybrid benefit is enabled and it's important that organizations discover this and then a sam pro 2 or product is accurately able to determine the license compliance based on these discovered values i've run discovery here and i'll go to the virtual machine instance here and you can see that the cpus are two and all these values are discovered notice that it's virtualized by the windows server which holds the software installed record you can see that the software installations are here notice that windows 2019 data center is is is discovered moving back to the virtual machine instance i can see that [Music] the tag values automatically created and this shows that the first license type is bioware if it was sql server installed it would have shown sql server and its license type also i can notice this in the dependency view diagram as well and you can notice that this is the virtual machine instance and this is the windows server [Music] and there is virtualized relationship and this is hosted on the azure data center if i move towards cloud databases which is pass resources i can see that i'm able to discover the cloud databases i am able to discover the cloud host which are the dedicated host also and [Music] i i'm able to discover the vms running on these dedicated hosts so for example this is one of the vms and notice that uh it runs on the dedicated host which is the cloud host and if i open up dependency view i can see the same notice here that uh this is the dedicated host and this is the vm running on it so that kind of completes uh the demonstration on discovery of bring your own license uh in the next section we'll talk about license compliance offered for bringing your license resources on sampro thank you
