ServiceNow San Diego - Software Asset Lifecycle Enhancements
[Music] hey everyone it's me justin thanks for watching in this video we're going to cover two things really software asset management workspace that got migrated over to the new ui in san diego and that's not the reason for this video but it is a new change in san diego it's got a new look and feel but same layout same content except for one little hidden thing and that's what i want to show you we're going to start off our journey with our workspace menu like we've done a lot of videos so let me get out of the way and we will go ahead and click on that and open up the new software asset workspace so right there software asset workspace we're going to jump in this is what i mean not much has changed if you're a software asset manager you probably love this in room all these different widgets and visualizations around your data compliance and licensing and things you should be focusing on alerts expect expirations of maintenance and subscriptions all that good stuff right so here it is here's what it looks like here's a preview of the workspace in san diego here's the license usage dashboard or landing page i don't have any pin publishers at the moment but there's all my demo uh publishers and what i really want to show in this video is actually in the license operation space so in the previous version under licensing we had these four items entitlements and models and importing both entitlements and models what's new is this software asset life cycle we've got a new feature in san diego software lifecycle averages is what's new in san diego so i'll go ahead and give that a click and we can hop into that and see what's going on so essentially let me explain this a little bit some software may not have end of support end of life data provided by the manufacturer so for those cases servicenow now gives you the ability to have a general kind of custom or global industry average actually it's right there as i was talking i looked right at it so the global industry average service now i said it's about 72 months for average end of life and 48 months for average end of support so support ending after two years and um general end of life after three years so that's global industry average unless you want to specify something different maybe here's like for trello they've said 12 months or for illustrator it's at 48 months so you now have the ability to go and define those what does it look like let's open one up for adobe illustrator and you can see very simple not a big complex thing here we specify the type so it could be the custom industry average if you want to override that global one or a product or a publisher so you could set these rules at those two levels if it's a product you pick the product from your product list and then you specify okay my head's not in the way the average end of life period and the average into support period in months that's it that's simple oh and you specify whether it's active or not right no brainer what's happening is servicenow has got some jobs that are running so as you get new software turn things on install things or we discover things these are going to get these life cycles and get applied to those products to those publishers or to the ones that we don't have anything in here for because we use the global industry average so if you wanted to make a new one let's go ahead and click on new and you can see basically the forum we just saw but being able to come in and specify your own stuff so nothing that much more exciting there that is a new killer feature in san diego i wanted to show you that one let's finish out the demo here on software asset workspace so you can see all the other stuff that comp came in with the ui refresh so there's our software asset analytics nothing really new like i said same data same stuff we had before just has that next experience ui the refresh look and feel so that we've brought this workspace into the new the new uh experience last one here is content lookup that would be the last thing in the software asset workspace i really hope you found those average life cycles helpful for end to support and end of life i think for a software asset manager there's always going to be that one-off thing that you know doesn't have uh information provided by the manufacturer just because they're not big enough or they just don't publish that information so hopefully this will just help you keep things organized and get out in front of those expirations and renewals if you like this video please like please subscribe or share it with somebody you think might be interested until next time i'll see you on the next one [Music] you
