welcome everyone this is our 15th creator workflows and platform academy um we are joined by kiernan mcmorrow and daniel delis welcome everybody in the attendees and i'm very much excited to share with you today new things in the platform and on career workforce when it comes to the san diego release we are very very close to general availability for san diego we're in the early access period still so i still have to make sure you know about the safe harbor notice before we go get into things though just some quick introductions my name is lisa holdstein i'm an outbound product manager for the now platform and creator workflows i've been with servicenow for a little over three years now i've been working with the platform for over six years and i'm excited about uh this new release again because there's always amazing innovation with each of those releases want to say a few words kiernan hi i'm kieran mcmurrow i am a product manager here with the now platforming creative workflows i've been working with servicenow for about six months and i've been inside the servicenow infrastructure for about six years as well that's awesome thank you so much and daniel is our colleague in zurich yeah hello hello everyone i i also had my appearance on the show a while ago so some of you might know me i'm daniel i am a product success manager at creator workflows for servicenow and yes lisa said based in switzerland um what we will see today is what probably our team has brought out and i'll be looking forward to help you use these features in the future awesome thank you so much before we get into this uh please remember to use the q a panel to submit your questions and um kiernan and daniel will try to answer them or we pick them up and answer them later in the community as always this session will be is recorded and will be edited and posted on youtube next week um so with that i think we got all of the fun stuff um taken care of remember this is the safe harbor notice don't make any purchasing decisions based on what we tell you today um but pretty much most of these things are going live so it's it's looking very good i hope you're very excited for all the new features in san diego we're going to be talking about a couple of topics we will be talking about new features in app engine and avenging studio about developer tool enhancements workflows and integrations as well as security and have some place for q a later i know you'll be very excited to learn about next experience so join us in two weeks amanda jocelyn will be with us again and she will tell us all about the new features in ui builder and the new unified navigation that you can use for your your back end instance views and all of the good stuff that is coming out for the next experience so definitely make sure to follow our community posts and sign up for the next session as well so with that i'm already getting into the first survey um i want to know which release is your prod instance currently at uh how often do you upgrade your instances and uh how long your upgrade process is roundabout so how long does it take you from when you get your first info or ea or ga is available until you start upgrading i'll let this run a bit and while you're clicking through the survey i want to start with some news about workflows and integrations we have awesome news for flow designer we have a new logic that is handling a try scenario which is an awesome alternative to if than else statements so this helps you try certain logic a number of times and if it fails it still fails after a certain step you can have some error handling happening and then continue with your flow because if you didn't have that your flow would just stop there's more error handling improvements some flow data diagramming and i'll show you a screenshot of that just in a second more usability improvements and more feature and access content filter news so with a little more uh detailed look at the try flow logic this is really awesome in the roman release we already added an error handling at the bottom of the flow so whenever your flow would run into an error you could have some more logic that would run if you encountered an error so for example notifying some person or creating a ticket creating a task or things like that um or do some remediation steps in san diego we've now added the option for a try logic um this allows you to trap potential errors and then continue the flows this is the main difference really between those two and in this case if something happens when calling the subflow or when creating the record the error is being caught and the notification will be run and then the flow just continues with the log statement or whatever logic you want to run after and of course error handling is still very very useful and of course still available so we have more improvements to that too we've added a few more options to flow log to the flow logic menu in the error handles and error handler section and you can also add stages in that part now so that is rather really practical um there's familiar items like the wait for a duration of time you can call a dynamic flow and set flow variables as well flow diagramming flow diagramming is huge because having a diagram view of your flow and your logic and your branches is one of the biggest concerns that our customers have voiced towards us and they told us this is one of the things that kept them from adopting flow designer because it's not always inherently um intuitive when what happens and where the flow would continue but with a flow diagramming it's now easy to see because you can see where the flow logic branches off and where the flow would continue after you can toggle back and forth there's one caveat we don't support all of the logic yet and it currently doesn't support stages but we will be adding all of those things in the next couple of releases so look forward to this um and we will we are of course we're aiming for a full um feature parody between those two um one cool thing that you can see here that you might have not noticed in the linear flow view is that when a path is broken when a flow is designed to end after within the iflow if or else branches you would never get to the log part of the flow so it's it's really good to have this visual interface and understand what is happening in your flow and we also of course we hope that this will invite more low and no code users to to start using flow designer i think it's great that we're starting to get this tool back in people's hands a lot of people had exposure early on and working with flows didn't necessarily feel as traditional as they were used to so adding this tool set and the ability to kind of diagram it i think is a nice entry point for people to kind of get back in and realize hey look i can do uh logic i used the way that i used to do it and kind of visualize it so i think this is going to be a real good addition to the product yeah totally um for all of the people who are looking at migrating towards flow designer and are interested on how to approach that we did a session on flow designer good practices last month and i'll link the video later in the in the chat and i'll also link it in the recording we will also have two at least two more sessions about flow designer coming late april and early may we'll cover some migration use cases what you could expect to be facing when you want to start using flow designer over workflows or for your inbound emails email processing or sending notifications for replacing scripting and and business rules so make sure to check out the other academy sessions that we have on flow designer and are going to be running one more new and awesome feature for flow designer is being able to save flows as a template this is a big push that we're making we have a similar feature when it comes to saving apps as app templates you might have seen those templates already if you're you've been using app engine studio so right now in app engine studio you can create flows or apps from templates that we provide as servicenow in the future you will be able to create your own flow templates so you will be able to save a flow as template from flow designer and then access that in app engine studio to create flows from there we will um make this a bi-directional uh thing uh com going forward so right now to create the template you have to do that in flow designer to re to use it and consume it you have to be in avenging studio but in an upcoming release we will um add the other way around so that you can also create templates in app engine studio and uh create flows from templates in flow designer so that is that is coming um safe harbor applies to that statement of course um yeah the the awesome thing about flows um uh template flows is that you can add parameters to this so you can decide which kind of input you request from the person who wants to use the template and then use those um parameters in your flow so you can decide what needs to be input and then provide that to the users more usability improvements a couple of smaller things but very nice in san diego we added some uh some data pill truncation so that you don't have those super long pills anymore there will be some some ellipses in places but then when you hover over the pill you will get the full path so if you have those data pills where you dot walk through like three or four steps uh those data polls used to be very hard to see but we we changed that with san diego one more thing in the logic you can now search through the different flow logics and the start we didn't have as many options so it wasn't really necessary to add a search field there but the more options that we provide with making a decision and stuff like that we added a search there now a tiny adjustment we renamed the end flow logic to end flow to make it more more understandable what happens if you add that logic because not everybody understood that automatically um or intuitively and then um there's more um info here so when you have a decision um that is another improvement there's now a plus sign so that you can add a decision table field to redirect for the decision builder so if you click on that plus it'll get get you to the modern view of decision builder now and not to decision tables we also added more new transform functions um to the data builds so that you can have some more options there and the latest the last improvement for usability is that the run low run start date is now formatted for the system's local time zone and the run start date time data pill will store the time the flow start date and local time and we renamed the run start time data pill to run start time utc that so that you now have both available and don't have to juggle with time conversion and you can choose which one of those you want to use in your flow we added more options to the feature access and content filters so all kinds of new features that we added to flow designer all of those can be can be decided on who has access to them so flow error handler error evaluation and and all kinds of things that we added in the past releases those are now also available in the feature access list so um to be sure that you have the possibility to very um minutely decide who has access to which uh feature within um flow designer no questions so far i should look at the before we continue we shall look at the poll the pool was done all right let's look at that we have some results so uh we can see that actually uh three quarters of you are already on the room release which is awesome so very few who need to catch up um you're very close to san diego this way and i can see that um well most people upgrade once a year uh and at least three three of the a people will release with er will upgrade with every release that is very interesting and the majority will for the majority it will take you between four and six weeks to upgrade awesome thank you so much uh one more note for the flow diagramming if you want to try it out on your pdi or on your instance if you've upgraded to the early access version of san diego you may have to go to the plugins list look for dope flow diagramming and hit the update button to get the latest version so that the toggle shows up in your flow designer um we are publishing updates to flow diagramming also through the servicenow store so we can push updates more often than just with family releases all right um new things about integration hub we have some some high level highlights and we'll have some more details on the following slides we added aes integration for the new integration hub import [Music] form that was introduced in rome this is now available in aes as well we have some enhancements to configuration templates and integration hub import also uh supports excel files now which is super awesome um there's some more info on having a retry after some stuff and data streams now also support the quick mode so what does this look like in integration hub import allows you to now also import data on a regular basis from within app engine studio so the integration hub import feature used to just allow you to import from existing data stream actions that was introduced in rome but now with san diego you can also import from excel files so for example you could use the um excel ms excel spoke to get an excel file that is or or onedrive spoke get an excel file that is put um on some onedrive or some other file share and then provide that to the scheduled integration hub import um process the good thing about the excel import is that this one despite the product being called integration hub import uh it does not require an integration hub license to import from excel you only need the integration hub license if you import through data streams or are using any of the other spokes before so for your applications you can start with excel files if you want to before diving into further things with integration up but i'll still recommend that because creating integrations is so much easier with spokes there's a new retry policy so you can add a retry after a certain amount of time a specific duration and a specific count of how often an integration should retry to reach the remote system um this image will show you some execution details on wrist steps so the retry will just go ahead and and try to get the remote system again and again until it's successful and then if it's not successful you can use action error handling to determine what's happening next a big a big adjustment or or improvement for client software distribution is that you can now also automate mac os and ios software requests which is i think a huge improvement and will help add more capabilities to all customers who are not just using windows systems in their infrastructure but also mac os and ios and lastly the biggest improvement on the automation hub side that is um we add an rpa capability so it's not just integration hub but rpa hub will change the way you work with other systems and our biggest push here is that we want to make sure that you know rpa is designed or is intended for you to be able to integrate with legacy software with systems that don't provide you with an api um do um ocr document processing and and much much more so rpa hub is a very new feature uh it's a four fee licensed product uh talk to your account team if you want to try it out it enables you to create and run so-called robots so these can be attended or unattended robots um so either robots that you manually start on clients or unattended robots that run on servers or even a spun up docker system stocker servers or so no i'm just very excited about rpa hub there's there's so much potential for being as you said you know integrate with legacy systems and and just um really kind of accelerate workflows that traditionally have had you know one path towards resolution so being able to kind of integrate these systems into the servicenow infrastructure um is going to open up a whole new world for folks oh yeah i mean you you all know it right there's there's excel forms there's pdf files there are manual processes back and forth and rpa will allow you to automate things that couldn't be automated before and this adds so much flexibility for all kinds of legacy apps and the the good thing is we are in the process of onboarding an existing product and we it already offers over three and a half a thousand components and that includes all kinds of connectors templates ocr document processing etc we still want you to use flow designer and integration hub for all of integrations that have an api so um we support calling flows from robots and starting robots from flows so you we want you to integrate those together and use both sides of um of this technology very very excited this is going to be big and with that we'll dive into some development and configuration updates we have news on the automated test framework front make sure to check out this week's creator toolbox where earl and chuck were talking about automated test framework they're leading everyone through those features the biggest ones that we have now are breakpoints and pausing execution before rollback those things are super useful you can now add a breakpoint breakpoints are session specific so if you add a breakpoint they are only there for you and they persist through sessions so if you return to this test you will still see the same breakpoint assigned to you but another developer may add their own uh breakpoints to the same test and not interfere with your testing as well um it's very easy to use you can just right click a test step at a break point and then when you run your test instead of just running the test you can hit the debug test and that gives you some more options so the run test button will do what it did before it will just run the test ignoring all breakpoints if you run if you hit the debug test button it'll run until it hits the first breakpoint and then pauses the step right at the test right before the next step right before the breakpoint step in that case you can then decide whether to continue or step over so you can see this either on the server side interface you can also see the same in the client test runner so you can always choose whether to continue until the next breakpoint or just step to the next step and by that go through the test and look at the client test runner and see what's happening and the other feature i mentioned before is pausing before rollback so when you start your client test runner or you start your test you can check this box and it allows you to check out the data before it's being rolled back from what happened during the test so you can move to any records you can go check out what's happening in the interface uh one thing to note here though is if you impersonated a user um you will still be impersonated to that user if you have this pause in there so it might be that you cannot see all of the steps for all of the things one awesome improvement or i think is really an amazing improvement for your service catalog we now allow you to sequence your catalog order guides and we do that with the help of process automation designer which is super exciting so you can activate a plugin that is called auto guide sequential fulfillment it will also automatically activate process automation designer and with this you can decide in which sequence or maybe in parallel or maybe um one after the other your order guide us processing happens uh so there's a new button on the order guide interface called generate sequence this will bring you to the process definition you will choose the name hit generate and then you'll get taken to process automation designer and as you can see here you can decide to have multiple phases for the different catalog items have them run sequentially or some only after certain others are being complete and the the great thing about this is something that we couldn't do before and it'll also represent on the portal status so you can see here that if you have the order guide you can see the individual stages for the different parts of the order guide and in which part of fulfillment they are in i think this is very very uh cool and then once you have a process created like this you can always go back and and open it again from the order guide and head back into process automation designer to adjust things if you need to to amend anything i think that's really awesome yeah i think there's going to be a definitely a huge one especially for onboarding uh for provisioning you know and and cut down the amount of of calls to services to kind of check up hey what's the status of this because you have this visual indication of where the actual process is and how far along you are and i think the process owners are going to be just wowed wow by this future yeah i think um what what's really amazing about this is that it's super uh super helpful to or to organize these things i mean who who hasn't encountered the problem that you cannot provision um i don't know other accounts that depend on an ad account or an email before you set that up so more improvements we have improvements to studio and how apps are handling stashes so we've updated updated the stashing process so that you can now see more details when managing stashes they are based on update sets so previously those were flattened and when you reapplied them you didn't know what was happening back and forth so with san diego if we now use update set batching so when you create a stash for the app you can see who owns which changes and this developer information also persists and then you can now also move multiple updates from one or more update sets to a new or existing global app bundle this process has been around for a release or two but it was for single updates only and now you can do that with multiple updates at once um another um addition here is you can now convert from update sets to app repo and the big uh warning there i think the warning should be read really please don't run this on dev instances because once you do this the app will go into read-only mode so please don't get this ui action on your dev instance uh this is the this is designed to be used on your uh test and staging and prod instances for the apps um and this is uh one of the options to help you migrate from uh using update set toward app repo and the last part for app repo is that app for app repo on on-premise configurations you can now push changes from dev to test to prod more easily and some of the capability they now have the same capability as the cloud customers so that wasn't available before and it's a huge push towards app repo for for self-hosted customers uh small notes about security we have some authentication improvements multi-factor authentication will now be available with single sign-on and using the policies that we introduced recently this can be said conditionally we've also made the authentication tokens a bit smarter so that logging in from your ipad uses a different token than logging in from your iphone for example um and then one more thing we already had we already had open id authentication available for apple and google but facebook worked a little differently so we now added facebook support for open id the original open id was implemented in paris and uh you can now use either apple google or facebook for this all right app engine so this is the biggest and largest part i saved that or the end of my presentation so more we have some awesome improvements on the app engine and app engine studio side we have just to go through this quickly and i have slides for each of those there's a new interface called form builder that integrates closely with table builder this one is really awesome um template authoring i've alluded to before so not only you will be able to create float templates you'll also be able to create your own application templates which is uber awesome and we look forward to having a lot of our partners and customers create amazing templates and maybe share that with other customers in the future you will there was uh there was now uh support for creating and managing notifications directly in app engine studio we integrated a process automation designer we integrated decision builder uh we have some awesome uh improvements to uh uh to the managing of apps and that is called app engine management center so if you see us abbreviate with amc that's what we mean it helps you manage incoming users so app intake user provisioning provisioning developers new developers with permissions to create apps in app engine studio and we added a new app template called cost approval so this is also great here's a screenshot unfortunately it's a little small but i hope it gives you some idea some great improvements for this this is basically marrying form designer form what was the old thing form i forgot foreign builder is marrying ui builder and form designer and form layout thank you andrew yes um so it looks like ui builder and it allows you to do all of the awesome things that you weren't able to do in form designer for example you can add dot walking you can see that in the bottom left here so if there's a reference field you can just easily add related fields from there dot walking into your form you can easily create new forms you can easily create a view rules you can add policies that andrew has been alluding to what are those yellow icons the yellow icons on each of those fields indicate that there's some form of rule view rule or policy ui policy happening there so maybe it's uh it's mandatory based on another field or it's read only based on a state or any of those things that you could do before but couldn't do in uh informed designer easily so a form builder is really really awesome and the great thing is what you may see in the very top you can switch between the form builder the table builder and policy and rules uh back and forth so uh once you add a new field on form views it'll automatically show in table builder like it's it's there immediately you don't have to like refresh things or move somewhere else so that is really really awesome it's really exciting that this kind of removes some of the impediments that traditional form design have had for people um you kind of have to really know the platform know how to navigate and this kind of consolidates puts so many of the features especially indicating hey look there's logic happening all right you know of course you want to let people know but i think these are these are things that really help to democratize the tool get it in people's hands and let people create their own solutions with it right so uh i think this is very exciting and i'm i'm really looking forward to getting this into people's hands um because it's such uh it's so it's a so much better experience to create your forms uh like this right more i i talked about this before so creating an app template creating an app from an existing a template from an existing app or starting from scratch is a very awesome feature it allows you to uh standardize stuff like this is our standard request process there will also be an out of the box request app coming up app template coming up in sometime later this year i think uh but i mean you you all know what your processes are like every like every other um department maybe needs some kind of approval or travel request approval stuff like that these these kinds of templates are perfect for this so if you have templates that work um that that or processes apps that need to be reused and reused you can define those as app templates yourself now mentioned this before process automation designer will be integrated right into app engine studio for now it's only surfacing existing processes so for to create a new process you'll still have to go to process automation designer right now but adding the creation capability is of course on the roadmap there are some more improvements on the process automation designer side there's now a plate playbook test button so similar to the flow designer test button you can use that to test and debug your playbooks as you build them there's new info on checklist activities and you can now have lanes be conditional and there's a an addition that you can add and i will post this here optional ad hoc playbook activities so this is a huge push to help you cover those dynamic processes because sometimes you just need to add another task and another task and and providing the process definition beforehand doesn't always cover all real life scenarios yes so much for process automation designer and playbooks one more note on decision builder again we integrate all the good things into app engine studio decision builder and creating new decisions will now be um available directly from app engine studio and of course we also added delegated development permissions for decision tables so that i think that's very important that when you hand over those um those capabilities you have to decide who gets the um who gets those who gets access to those features the awesome part about decision tables is they can be reused and flows and it's scripts and you can abstract decisions uh from your business logic so um you can hand over a decision builder to your process owner who decides how high is the threshold when you need an approval who needs to be notified if those things change regularly then having a decision table is a good idea because then you don't have to change the flow logic again and again it's easier to use decision tables for these things we also have an academy session for that so be sure to check that out okay um amp intake user and user provisioning i've um i've mentioned this uh before uh so real quick we've made the citizen dev onboarding process easier so now there's an auto automated process happening here we provide you with a catalog item that you can give to your applicants they get auto notified after uh being approved automatically and they also get provisioned with permissions to use app engine studio for their app automatically so that is really awesome uh check out this intake flow this this intake process adjust it to your needs and get working with app engine studio and then lastly i've um app engine management center it's so much better than before you can now easily look at your pipelines check out your different requests check out which kinds of applications you have which kinds of apps are being requested where what's the status of your applications in the pipeline are they being deployed to test to stage and of course we worked very hard to make your pipelines be more flexible in the initial releases you could only have i think two or three instances uh the new pipeline version now allows you to have four or five whatever how many uh instances that you have in your pipeline so the app engine management center allows you to manage all kinds of aspects of your app development environments and processing so um i think this is a super super awesome improvement one of the really exciting things about working with app engine studio is all the features that are added all the time and how many iterations of these new features to really kind of get these tools in people's hands and start creating we have more improvements in mobile specifically mobile app builders so uh we're continually working on improving mobile app builder to configure servicenow native mobile applications and you can you can easily find mobile app builder by going searching it from the menu on the left if you don't see it yet you can install it from store and we have been pushing to make sure it covers as many features as mobile builder that was in studio before will be available in mobile app builder which is the new interface as well so the biggest focus of this latest release is more supportive screen configs directly in mobile app builder we've added support for 18 more tables to be configured in mobile app builder for example analytics or chart sections contact content sections global search calendar screens chart screens map map screens dynamic screens and ui rules so with this release there we've come up to almost or about 85 percent of coverage directly in mobile app builder and of course we're working on on adding more to this um there are also new and advanced offline capabilities added to mobile apps and some more improvements that i've added for into the slide for mobile card builder you can now easily configure mobile ui rules in mobile card builder so mobile card builder is a subsection or a like a builder it also looks like ui builder and it allows you to specifically configure how these cards that show up in lists and in maps look so you can specifically define which fields uh show up there where they show uh what's which icons which colors which emphasis and so on so mobile card builder is the tool that you use for that you can now also embed youtube and vimeo videos in mobile cards which is an awesome improvement i think and more accessibility is possible through dynamic text topology so you can have better accessibility for your users if you can figure that one more thing the one more thing is just a teaser this time because as i said before we'll have another academy session with san diego goodness on march 31st we'll have amanda joslin join us and tell us all about unified navigation configurable landing pages and accessible design so just to make sure for everybody who hasn't heard it yet next experience is the new name of now experience so do away with all the other names you may have heard like seismic tectonic polaris all of those were internal project names it is now only always called next experience going forward and i really look forward to to amanda presenting that we'll have another session two weeks after that so in four weeks where ashley snyder will help you learn how to migrate over to unified navigations all the things you need to know about theming and what the implications are for having unified navigation how to integrate workspaces and all kinds of things over there so make sure to sign up for the next the next couple of sessions and then let's post the last survey which is our general academy feedback i'll have you answer that while we talk about questions and so on so ingrid asks is this available next experience yes so if you are on a san diego instance if you take your pdi for example and upgrade that to san diego there's a property that you can activate to make the unified navigation show up in your in your instance you definitely there i think there there are already uh um some instructions out there on the community or on the dev developer program um block page um or the live coding happy hour raider toolbox sessions so make make sure to check out those i think they went through next experience already there also is the next experience center of excellence on which i definitely would suggest checking out on the community um it's a definitely a great aggregation of all resources that are available for the next experience including workspace ui builder components so uh definitely get a chance to check that out i will put the link in the chat for anybody that wants it that is a good good idea so i'll also post the uh past and future sessions that we had so if you want to check out uh decision builder or flow designer good practices any of the
