It’s no secret agent job, but it’s the next best thing!

Import · Mar 07, 2022 · article

We want to introduce you to Gene Manuel. He's a true ServiceNow success story—a superstar who decided to rise up with ServiceNow.

At elementary school, Gene wanted to be a firefighter or a secret agent. And, in a twist of fate, he did become an agent—working at a help desk. Gene genuinely enjoyed helping callers with support issues and resolving challenging IT problems. After a few years, he moved on to "helping the help desk" by becoming a Remedy developer. Over the next 20 years, he got involved in many large-scale enterprise service desks at energy, banking, semiconductor, and tech companies.

A few years ago, Gene realized that his Remedy journey was reaching a dead end. He wanted to make the world work better for everyone, using amazing tools and technology to do the best work of his life. But, with Remedy, he couldn't do that. That's when Gene made the switch to ServiceNow, the most powerful, open, unified platform on the planet. Gene says ServiceNow was an express train picking up steam, and he wanted to get on board.

Gene got started by spinning up a ServiceNow personal developer instance to get hands-on experience with the platform. He found it astounding that a software company would open its platform to individual developers. He was even more amazed at the depth of knowledge and information available in the ServiceNow Community and the vast number of training options on Now Learning.

Gene caught on quickly and absorbed everything he could about the Now Platform. Then he landed a role as a business analyst at a large insurance company. Things moved fast in his new job, and he soon had the opportunity to become a ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA). Naturally, Gene jumped at the chance. Since the certification exam isn't easy and really puts skills and understanding to the test, he was concerned that he wouldn't pass on the first attempt. But by leveraging Now Learning and the Community, Gene did pass—which he says left him both proud and stunned.

Once he had the CSA under his belt, his next goal was to become an ITSM Certified Implementation specialist. It took two tries to pass this time, but Gene says it was completely worth the effort. ServiceNow skills are in high demand, and his certifications unlocked new career opportunities for him. Since then, he's also completed several micro-certifications and presales specializations, adding to his career prospects. After certification, he spent a year at what he describes as an amazing ServiceNow partner and has recently joined Accenture for an incredible opportunity in their ServiceNow Business Group. He says it's no secret agent job, but it's probably the next best thing!

Just like Gene, you can rise up with ServiceNow. Go from taking it day by day to taking charge. From feeling stuck to feeling unstoppable. Changing not just what you work on but how you feel about work. It's time to find a place where you can thrive.
