How to add a Microsoft Stream video to a Knowledge Article

Import · Mar 24, 2021 · article

This post will walk you through adding a Microsoft Stream video to a Knowledge Article.

You will need to have to set up the HTML Sanitizer. The steps to do that can be found in this post.

You must complete this step for this below to work!!

Once the HTML Sanitizer steps are completed, you will need to add new values to a new system property.

Go to sys_properties.LIST once there search for this system property - "glide.html.enable_media_sites"

This new system property was added in the Paris release.

In the value section, add the following after the last value. In this example, after the "vimeo.com" is the last value. You have to add a "," to separate the site. Once you are done, save.

,microsoftstream.com,web.microsoftstream.com

Now go to your MS Stream site and pick the video you want to share. Once you select it, click on the "Embed" tab and copy the embed code.

Go to the Knowledge article you want to post the video on. On the Article body toolbar, click on the "source code" icon. Now add the embed code in the popup, like the picture below.

Save and publish.

There are some important caveats I want to point out.

Because the video is host by Microsoft, some permission issues will come up. The video can only be viewed by people with access to the MS Stream site and authorized users to view the video(s). You will need to log in or be logged in to view the video. If you are not, most of the time, you will see this error on the video like the picture below. You can click on the video, and it will take you to the login page. If you see the video, then you are signed in and have the proper permissions.

At the moment this post was published, MS does not have a way to make the video "public" or shared it with others outside of the Stream user group. Here is the link to that information. This is completely out of ServiceNow's control.

You can also add this to the portal. Follow the instruction on this post.

I hope this helps out!!
