hey it's robert the duke fedoric here coming at you with another tip to up your resume game now i've audited a ton of resumes over the past few years and there's one phrase that i wish everybody would take off of their servicenow resumes immediately the phrase is as per requirements or anything sounds remotely like that now i understand the intent it's a noble intent you want the reader to know that they can trust you by putting you in front of a customer and you will come out with a solution but the problem is what you're actually saying is somebody gave me a list of things and i did them you can boil that expression down to i do what i'm told which isn't very interesting so as noble as the intent might be this expression is hamstringing your servicenow resume if you want to play at the top of the game you don't want to be promoting the dullest drabbest most boring version of yourself the best servicenow resumes inspire the reader by explaining the value that the candidate brought to the solution as per requirement goes without saying because all work everywhere is per a requirement great architects design buildings per requirements great chefs produce their food according to requirements even ceos turn around companies and build inspiring growth stories as per requirement it goes without saying so instead of talking about as per requirement think about outcomes and how they improve because all the work we do on servicenow is to improve an outcome either improve a good outcome or mitigate a bad outcome in essence we're only here to make things faster cheaper more reliable more secure more compliant easier to learn more automated more governed safer etc so if your resume is suffering as per requirement i need you to do the following things rethink all of your experience not in terms of the components you built with but the solutions that you provided if you built a custom application did it increase the visibility or transparency of the costs did it decrease training time or increase user adoption did you automate work to make it faster cheaper or more consistent those are the things that make people take notice of your resume those are the things that inspire them to bring you in for an interview so that they can learn more those are the things that make hiring managers imagine what it would be like for you to provide those solutions to them and since 8 out of 10 of the resumes i've read this year hide these inspiring solutions behind terms like built on servicenow according to customer requirements if you can make this one improvement to your resume you're going to be ahead of 80 of the pack not bad for a couple minutes listening if you're a servicenow expert looking for better opportunities but maybe your resume or linkedin profile isn't doing you justice reach out to me via linkedin or the email pictured here as i offer both career coaching and recruitment services and if you're a servicenow customer or partner you heard that right robert fedoric now does servicenow recruiting with a 1500 subscriber youtube channel and mailing list and thousands of linkedin followers let's make sure your open positions get first go at the prodigious pool of servicenow resources reach out via the emailed picture here
