in this video we're going to talk about page templates in ui builder so i'm going to start by clicking into one of my experiences this is a work portal if you click into an experience and it doesn't have any pages yet it'll prompt you to create a page this is where you have to start in ui builder so we'll choose create a page i'm going to do something really creative and call it home and i can just create the page from here and build my scratch my page from scratch but i have these nice page templates that are going to get me started with the page so these pages will have some components already added to them and configured they may have some additional things like data resources and client scripts already in the page but let's go ahead and look at one of these so let's just say simple list and then once i click on a page template i have a couple of options here the first one is reference the page template and its data and it tells me a little bit about this it says you know if i reference the page template my page automatically gets updated if i upgrade to a new release and that up that new release contains a new version of this template my page will automatically uh be upgraded so that sounds nice let's do that and i'm not going to add any advanced settings here so this is a simple list it doesn't look like much here because you know i've got all i have in this page is a simple list but one of the things i see is that this page is read-only so because i chose that first option where i'm referencing the page my page gets upgraded however i you know i can't really customize this page so this is a good you know a good choice for a page template that you know you're going to use just as is and you want to be really safe and have it be available to upgrade so let's try the other way so let's create a new page and we'll call this home 2 and i'm going to choose the same thing this simple list and i'm going to say copy the contents of the template so with this one i'm going to get a new page that is editable so i can take this page and you you see i don't have that message there i could come in and um choose a let's just put an alert in there uh so i can you know add components to this page and customize it but still start from this template where i have my simple list here so neither of these is necessarily better than the other option it's really more about you know what your needs are and what your requirements are so let's go back and look at that page prompt again we'll just discard our changes and you know my advice would be before you go ahead and create a page from scratch you at least look through all the page templates and see if there is already a template that's going to get you at least part of the way where you want to go with your new page
