a look at safe entities including portfolios agile release trains epics and more while highlighting how the servicenow safe board is used at the portfolio agile release train and team levels servicenow safe helps you apply lean and agile principles to your large enterprise enabling you to develop and deliver software products with fewer defects in the shortest possible lead time it provides both summary and detailed visualizations of work that enable you to manage development processes throughout all levels of your organization and it facilitates collaboration and continuous planning and monitoring of activities across business units departments and teams supporting both small scale solutions employing 50 to 125 practitioners as well as complex system that require thousands of people to begin we've logged into servicenow as adella a safe portfolio manager from her favorites menu adela can easily access servicenow safe capabilities including the safe board portfolios agile release trains program increments epics features sprints stories and a safe analytics dashboard as shown here after reviewing the dashboard adela opens the safe board where day-to-day operations associated with portfolios agile release trains and teams are managed she selects the portfolio level view and the travel portfolio all the epics associated with the travel portfolio are displayed on the board as cards in various states the state of an epic can be changed by dragging it to the desired lane the board also allows for drag and drop assignment of records clicking on a person's name filters the board to show the specific epochs assigned to them epochs that are in the backlog state will also show up on the portfolio backlog tab here a simple color coding is used to highlight the weighted shortest job first scores of the features epics with high scores in red are typically at the top of the list those with lower scores in green are at the bottom however items can be adjusted as required by dragging and dropping adela now wants to review the status of the features in the booking platform agile release train she selects the agile release train level on the safe board and the booking platform release train she reviews all the states in the release by scrolling to the right and back clicking on a feature number displays additional details about it along with related stories the features shown here in the backlog state are also listed on the backlog tab from the backlog tab adela can create a new feature or epic she can filter to view features by epic or she can create a new program increment and optionally change default sprint length or number of sprints at the start of a program increment adela's entire program team gets together to plan the effort the big room planning board lets them do this online all together in one big room or virtually at multiple locations with servicenow adele and her team have both detailed and summary visualizations the planning board shows a matrix horizontally as a swim lane for each team within the agile release train vertically there are swim lanes for each sprint within the program increment at the intersections of these swim lanes are the stories that are planned to be delivered by that team within the given sprint dependencies between stories are identified by green connectors and unassigned stories can be accessed in the backlog group by feature and optionally dragged to the appropriate sprint on the safe board big room planning also enables adela to review the features that have been planned for this program increment the features tab shows features by team and sprint and a percent complete adela can see the various teams working on a given feature across sprints and any dependencies across sprints clicking into a feature displays additional information about it along with a list of the associated stories adella now turns her attention to safe teamwork to focus on sprint performance from the safe board she selects the team level view and chooses front-end team a to review the backlog of stories in the booking p1 program increment she can filter stories by safe feature and expand and collapse stories grouped by sprint clicking on the create story button allows the team to create additional stories which will be automatically assigned to this team and the booking p1 program increment backlog servicenow provides a unified backlog which allows adella and our team to maintain a centralized backlog containing records of different task types such as defects enhancements problems incident tasks and stories they do this by setting up triage boards for each specific task type once set up it enables the team to add prioritize and sequence different task type records all in one location and it removes the overhead of converting records to stories saving the team time and steps and she can personalize list columns to add or remove details finally the sprint tracking tab enables the team to plan sprints the storyboard shows the stories by state in the current sprint safe scrum tasks can be used to break down a story into even smaller components these same tasks can be managed from either the story record or on the task progress board we just demonstrated how the servicenow safe solution synchronizes alignment collaboration and delivery for multiple agile teams at the portfolio agile release train and team levels to help businesses continuously plan embrace uncertainty and enable change by scaling work across the enterprise for additional
