Building and Innovating on ServiceNow
[Music] hi my name is andrew wilbury door and i'm a servicenow senior developer hi i'm travis dolson i'm a senior architect on the servicenow platform hi everyone it's jared montz here from the sn dev slack channel moderator and currently the engineering lead at a servicenow partner my name is robert fidork i am the chief experience officer of an elite servicenow technology partner i saw the potential of servicenow straight away when we were able to take an old decrepit onboarding and off-boarding process and trim it down from better than a month to days or even hours to onboard freelancers and full-time employees across the entire organization not just a workflow for it but a workflow for the company integrating hr it site security and other areas of the business so the first time i was working with servicenow i had no idea what i was doing my boss came to me and asked me to add some fields to a couple of our incident forms and he gave me the servicenow wiki and servicenow guru websites and said go and basically overnight i was able to go through figure out how to do it snap those fields into place came back the next day with it ready to go i discovered servicenow in 2013 i was running the desktop services team for a company of about 14 000 users and we were running all of our processes out of about four different ticketing systems plus we still had a lot of direct emails to our analysts the thing i liked about servicenow right away was that everything was on a single platform i learned about the system after writing a couple of scripts to download data from each of those systems and correlate them on my desktop and after a while started moving all my various team processes into the service catalog and using workflows a few months later i was the de facto sysadmin for our company even though i did not have an admin account even in depth we had a requirement to reset our complex passwords across many devices in our company this is a long manual process that i was able to automate using servicenow it took me about a day we built a request item and some workflow behind it and then users could sit down request a new password and it would be emailed to them instantly this saved hundreds of hours of service desk time and waiting for people and allowed the business to continue almost overnight rather than weeks and weeks my favorite thing that i've done on the platform is actually one of the most recent things which is working with some of the state governments to build up their snap tanf programs when i was unemployed i was actually on those programs myself and so now i've been able to come back full circle and actually be the one helping those programs you
