About
Engineering License Management in ServiceNow Software Asset Management Pro enables organizations to monitor and manage engineering application licenses through integrations with OpenLM and Open iT. These tools connect with a wide variety of license management servers — including IBM LUM, Sentinel Technologies, Autodesk, and Bentley Systems — consolidating usage data into the ServiceNow instance via the ServiceNow Store application. It targets industries such as aerospace, oil and gas, and construction, where accurate license forecasting and denial prevention are critical. Once set up, the Engineering License overview dashboard in Software Asset Workspace provides visibility into total spend, most denied products, and usage trends over time.
Key Features
Engineering license management supports two license types. Concurrent licenses (floating, network, token) allow multiple users to share a pool managed by license servers — when a user exits, the license returns to the pool. Subscription licenses assign access to individual users for a defined period; for example, Autodesk named user subscription licenses use identity-based cloud profiles. Data collected from license servers includes usage, denials, user activity, and alerts — all normalized and reconciled within ServiceNow. The Engineering Apps Integration section in License Operations provides dedicated views for license servers, session activity, concurrent usage, denials, and content resolution mappings, giving SAM admins end-to-end visibility into engineering software consumption.
